It's a great all around option for those who can't afford a lance. Bingo. A lance, though is a big target for enemies, slower, and is only really the best at close range. the leo is good for all ranges. close? thunder magums/pinitas, mid? trident and tulu, long? gekkos and treb.

A Magnum Leo is free damage for Galahads Although Galahad is a free kill for a thunder pinata Leo Lets talk about that with 350m separating my galahad of your leo!!!

The Leo, though it might be a jack of all trades, is a master of none. At any range and in any role the Leo is 2nd best, with the possible exception of Aphids- Pot Head Warrior or Thunder. Long range it's trumped by Treb/ kwk Fury. Mid range it's trumped by Trident or Zeus Fury. Short range it's trumped by the Lancelot/ Ancilot. If you could fight at all these ranges at once the Leo might get points for versatility, but you can't. You configure and fight it one way, and so configured the Leo is the second (or third) best bot in every case (except as noted w/ aphids, which just became useless with the Ancile buff). For this reason you essentially never see it in a Top tier hanger- all the guys who know better and can afford it use something else...

The Leo isn't specialized for any range with its three light and one heavy hardpoints. As Pete mentioned earlier, there are many better robots/setups for short range (Galahad Plasma, Griff Plasma, ect.), medium (Fury Tridents, Griff Tulumbas/CRV Pins), and long (Fury KWK).

I still run a Leo in top tier. Soon to be lvl 11, has 3 Magnums lvl 12, and an ECC lvl 11. I like it I'm sorry, but I like it. And with the new buff, b4 the upgrade planned it sits at 192k hp. I know it's probably not as effective as a knife fighter anymore at that level, but I still can take down a well armed griffin (not much of leo left) and if, just if I can get close to a rhino and swing past their shield, I can give them fits also.
I also have some gekko's sitting somewhere with rust on them and a trebuchet collecting dust. That I thought if I upgraded them, It might be an answer to the maxed out fury's with maxed tridents. I could stay out of their range and annoy them for a change. Instead of spending 5K gold and 22,500 wsp for trident and millions and millions of silver and time upgrading all of that mess My problem is that sounds really boring, moving around and trying to get an open shot, and the dead city map, it would be completely useless after 10 to 20 seconds. Plus I have never been a camper and would probably forget what I was doing and go over and smell the flowers. course I could try aphids or at spirals. then again the cost and time to do it, to even try it.
Course this from a player that still will use a lvl 11 Boa at times, and is thinking of just for fun, upgrading a Cossack to lvl 12 just to hop around and be distracting to other teams.
well this just hasn"t been any help at all. But will still post it.

Thanks. I swapped my DB Rhino out for it. Leo was my first and favorite heavy bot. Just play it like a Pinata Vityaz

The only Leo setup I consider viable for Top tier is Aphids, either Thunder or Ancile. The Thunder in particular is a good on tight maps, being both strong defensively (like other Aphid bots) bot also able to push many opponents off a defended beacon at close quarters. Every other Leo combo is bested by a different bot. The Taran Ancilot bests an Ancile Leo Mag, the Thunder Ork Lancelot is far superior to a Pinata Thunder Leo, etc. That's why it's getting buffed of course, but I'm not sure it will be enough. And to those saying all versions of Leo are meat for Galahad I agree. I always enjoy seeing Leo in red- generally it means not only a nice payday but also a less skilled opponent. Less skilled lol. Such foolishness.

Less skilled lol. Such foolishness. What would you prefer? Less dangerous? Any bot can beat another if skill is a big difference. A leo can be very dangerous as support, as a more specialized bot can protect it.

LOTS of it, actually. So yeah, spread this feeling to whomever you choose, I can use the extra silver and gold ?

And I assume you've also got a few of the other bots mentioned also maxed for comparison- Lancelot, Galahad, Fury... Personally I run my maxed Leo occasionally, generally with Aphids. And I do pretty well with it. But not as well as with the other bots. Can you please share a screen shot of your own "first hand experience" so we can evaluate exactly how much experience is "LOTS"?

Have at it. My win % has been fluctuating between 55% and 70% depending if I'm playing stupidly or I'm on the ball or teammates ditch. Destroyed and damage both go between 3.0-4.9 and 450k-550k respectively.

Yep. And you're using Aphids, the one I mentioned as the only viable top tier option for the Leo- see my first post. With the Aphid nerf we'll see if it stays that way... All other configs are IMHO not viable in top tier. Laser Leo is good for a laser bot, but generally seeing lasers on your team is an instant face-palm moment in at the pointy end.

The Leo is trumped in all those catagories....by Gold Bots. The Fury-5Kau. The Lance-5Kau. The Leo.. silver. So while the Leo is trumped by those bots at those ranges, it's only because those bots are designed to be the penultimate within the game play. With good rhythm and timing, in a long range duel a treb/kwk Fury can be bested by a Leo with kwk/kang and noricum.

I just registered here to answer some of the hate you guys seem to have for the leo
I run a pinata / thunder leo every single game , ive killed countless galahads and lancelots and rhinos with it and ive been killed by many too.
Now i do agree my leo can't match the pure fire power of a ork lance for example but with it's INCREDIBLE hp and overall above average other stats it can be a winner in every single 1v1 (to my experiance at least)
Now the thing is that i always run my leo as a first bot and i play just like a pinata patton , the reasoning behind this is that the first bot always gets blown up too fast even if its a shield bot whereas the the pinata leo not only has the giant pool of health to survive 3 4 barrages from most bots but the hide and seek style of play insures its survival much longer.
Most of the time i lose it after taking down 2 or 3 bots , sometimes i survive long enough to completely close a cap point (something like canyon mid cap whis offers a lot of cover) , taking down anything that dares challenge my authority , wheras they are other games that i die before i even make it to empty my first load on anything.
The point im making is this:i dont say that the leo is better than any other knife fighter because frankly it gets outperformed by many but it is the absolute perfect starting bot , it has more than enough fire power to dominate when the stars allign but better than that it takes 3 bots a solid 20 seconds of uninterrupted fire to be taken down and to me the first bot is always a suicide bomber and not only does the leo do the best job of it than any other bot , you wont feel bad when it blows up because you havent wasted your oh so expensive lancelot or your oh so fancy rhino. And that lance that gets to destroy my leo will come out of the fight with a busted leg or broken shield or a missing arm , and you can be sure my hellfire rhino will be there to put it out of its misery in under 2 seconds.
I also have a plasma galahad which i love dearly and for the exact reason above i always run it as my 4th or 5th bot , because its far too valuable to be blown up in the first minute of the game whereas near the end it can be the greatest hunter in the not so crowded battlefield.
And one last thing: stop saying the galahad can beat a leo easily cause it cant , a plasma galahad vs a mag thund leo loses its shield and 1/3 , even half its hp before taking the leo down and as we all agree a galahad without shield is easy money, and a pinata leo can kill it in 2 dumps (i know , i do it every day).
Sorry for the long post , but don't be unkind to the lovely german robot... a friendly leo takes so much missles and lasers so your precious lancelots and galahads don't have to... and you'll be happy to follow behind a leo into any sort of fight you know you would... so... stop sayin 「dookie」 bout my lovely little mountain of hp

At 10 with ancile 10 and mags 10 since the latest update Leo has done great. Frequently bouts in the 700k range, and Leo will holdup for quite a while producing serious DPM numbers. I still pressure Rhinos into keeping shields up and rip through the lancelot in short time. Any more than 1 plasma bot is a problem just corner PDB griffin.
The protection against DB is crazy RDB wont even scratch

Please post a screeen shot of your stats- play level, win percentage, average and peak damage, so that we understand how well you're actually doing well and against what competition. This will help us weigh your opinion. We know Right.On. has limited breadth of experience with different bots, has a win percentage in the 60s and has never cracked 900k damage. He advocates bots that most Top tier players don't, but he's also not making anything close to top tier numbers. If you're a Top tier player I think all of us will value your opinion more highly, but if you're killing poorly piloted L7 Galahads in middle tiers you're in for a shock when you level up and play against guys that know how to drive. Pinatas are nice until they hit nothing but air...

you know high damage numbers imply a weak opposition?
so my 500k avg against yeah 12/12 players is quite fine heh
personally I score lower against weaker opponents as I dont waste anytime padding stats >.> I just beacon the game
so when I scored 500k avg it was 600-700k proper games or 300k washouts

Guys with better stats similar to mine will generally play against Top tier, maxed clan players. As always... I'd give you credit for your low damage beacon running stratagy if you were able to sustain a reasonable win percentage with it. As is both your damage and win percentage are middling at best...

I'm not a fan of comparing measurements on the forum in the first place, but please don't expect increased credibility when admitting that you practice the current "exploit meta" (tanking). BTW, average damage determines what sort of competition you get paired against: mostly people who have similar average damage, along with the inevitable handful of outliers due to rubberbanding (last minute drop-ins, etc). IMO advice from a 500k average damage player is probably most valid for others who average in the neighborhood of 500k. Similarly, advice from an 800k+ player is more accurate about how things really work in TT, although it's even less immediately applicable down where the ill-equipped peons like me make do (<400k).
