Why not try out Planetside 2? It's the only active mmofps in existance and we've just had a major update for the game that has fixed a lot of the long standing issues with the game. Infantry gameplay has become better now due to a vehicle nerf. Don't be fooled by the mixed review status, most of the negative reviews are from vehicle players who are salty that vehicles got nerfed against infantry. You should also redeem the code "PS2WelcomeBack" for a free weapon(The free weapon requires a bit of skill though) and helmet. The game may seem P2W at first, but that's only because everyone is massively more skilled than you, the skill ceiling of the game is huge. You can do perfectly well with just the basic kit. iridar.net/planetside2/performance-guide/iridar.net/planetside2/starter-guide/I'm currently playing NC so join NC if you guys want to play with me.

I may just give it a try... Though my PC has only Intel Graphics (i5 6200U), it's new enougj that it runs for example Skyrim just fine on the low-res laptop display (and FB Gameroom War Robots runs perfectly of course).

I was really excited for the original. Then the reviews were awful so I passed on it.

So this leads me to another question. I originally started playing this game because I really enjoy this style of pvp match. I was a very big fan of world of wacraft battlegrounds. Quick access to multi player pvp matches, but I stopped playing that game many years ago. And I refuse to spend moronic amounts of money on this crud pile...
Are there any other mobile games with this type of pvp? I could care less if it's big robots, I just love the style of it. And don't say world of tanks, that game is tedious and slow, and I've heard it's pay to win the further you go.

Honestly, there isn't much like this game anymore. You could try out war wings, you could also try out some lobby fps shooters, such as critical ops(counter strike clone) or bullet force(CoD clone). You could also try out some moba games(similar to mmo control schemes, like WoW) such as LoL or DoTA.

I haven't played War Thunder for a while but yesterday I started it again. Had two games with 7 kills each, so it looks like my skills hasn't rusted that badly.
War Thunder's arcade modes have a structure similar to War Robots.
Respawns --- 3 on Ground Forces, up to how many planes you have on your deck on Air Forces.
Two spawn bases. You can choose which base to spawn (ground forces).
Capture points in between for domination.
Matchmaking is purely hanger based. However you can find yourself between seal clubbing and getting seal clubbed. You can carefully manipulate the contents of your hanger so you can pick which Battle Rating you want to be in. For me I would prefer low, at 3.7, which is consistent to tanks right up to 1941. BR 7.7 brings you to the early Cold War era on the other hand.

well if its free, I'll give it a try
Alternatively, there's another shooter that seems like a CoD + Overwatch called "Modern Combat Versus". It doesn't seem very optimized for Android (my S7 lags playing it), but the Windows store version (for PC) is very good. A free alternative if you don't want to pay for Overwatch

Guns of Boom (while a stupid name) is a pretty fun mobile FPS that requires a good amount of skill to play. They are very active in updating and improving the game, so I’m just hoping they don’t realize it’s becoming popular and transform into a cash cow like many other games have.

Yes to this game for sure. Thanks for the mention. Reminds me so much of a PC game I used to play and love - Battlefield Heroes. It got utterly ruined by hackers, but was loads of fun before that.
