The title says all. What do you think about getting hurt if you fall from a bridge? I read a post on War Robots Facebook page in which a map designer said that they are working on some projects. One of the projects was if a robot fall from a bridge will get hurt. Personally, I like the idea because it makes the game more realistic.
Sorry if there is another thread about this, I did not find any thread relating to this.

Terrible idea imo. There's enough things trying trying to kill you without getting gravity involved too!

Does that mean big heavy robots will be shoving the little guys off bridges? Spider bots harder to shove because of extra legs?
Kinda like a massive rugby scrum on the centre beacon?

If they DO implement fall damage they'll have to add a bot "mass" stat too that can be used to scale the fall damage realistically instead of just using the square of distance fallen for everything, otherwise it won't feel very realistic. This'd help light and medium bots be a bit more relevant again too.
Also let bots have a possibility to stumble when taking a hard hit, walking on certain terrain, etc. Let fall damage be sonething you can use against opponents strategically. We've all seen the ragdoll physics that kicks in when you die; why can't it kick in when you fall while alive too, or to model a "stumbke" mechanic? Would be better than the canned "freeze" animation lasting a second or so that's enforced every time you fall any distance at all. More organic, realistic, and fun...

A lot of designers wish things, but if they can't get a programmer on board, yeah. it's just a wish list.

Considering all jumps that any bot has goes higher than any bridge, realism is kinda out the door. Why would you take damage from a fall that's so much less than a bridge you could actually jump over?

Sorry guys, my bad. It's about two weeks ago when I read that note. now I have just checked again and it was not about falling from the bridge but actually, it was about falling from the edge of the map and dying. here is the link: bit.ly/Valleyandnextmaps

Just imagine all the retreating jumps to get away from rocket fire to only end in suicide.

I'm glad it was about falling off map. One thing I really hated about Battlefield, was death by broken ankle coming down stairs.

On the up-coming cargo ship map we should be able to fall into the water and sink instead of hitting some invisible wall at the ships edge. Maybe even a plank we could push reds over.
In general I don't like the invisible wall artificial boundary. Actual terrain geometry that bounds you is better, even if an accidental slip means death.

I find it stupid that meches teleport in near beacons in rush mode.

If everybody else goes and jumps off a bridge, are you gonna go jump off a bridge too? ?? Sorry, I heard that so much as a kid it just popped into my head. No, bad idea. I'd much rather see destructible structures where to you can blow through walls and take out cover areas than to get damaged by anything other than enemy fire (as much as I'd like to blow some idiot teammates to bits at times).

In general I don't like the invisible wall artificial boundary. Actual terrain geometry that bounds you is better, even if an accidental slip means death. An ironic twist on the cargo ship: firing all those Tulumbas and Orkans towards the deck below would perforate the ship's hull, causing the ship to capsize and sink. Adjusting for true gravity on the moon: a jumping robot would jump 6 times higher and further than on Earth. Lesson, students: Too much realism is not necessarily a good thing.

I think it's dumb. What about the robots who jump as high as the bridges are? Will they lose energy when they land? And I saw a post that said "good idea, it will make it more realistic"....we're fighting each other with robots and weapons that don't exist. I think realistic got thrown out the window a long time ago.

Can it fall on it's side and it can't get up? Cus that would be even more realistic
