If a L4-6/6/6 golem is looked at by mm as high bronze, does mm look at a L4-9/8/1 the same way? Is it max weapon level or total points?

Good question, I think average weapon level matters, but it might be weighted based upon slot size too. Either way, it is likely subject to cheange with the impending MM update that should be hitting us soon, possibly with the 2.5 update.

MM I believe is by max weapon level, not by total points.

What I've seen many say is that it's based by average (add up the total weapon levels, then divide by number of slots) with the caveat that there might be extra weighting for particularly high weapons variance (suggesting that say, a 6/6/6 will be weighted lower than a 12/3/3, but with no direct proof.)
That said, I did encounter a Patton the other day with Molots, 3/1/11/5. Definitely a lot of uncertainty there, especially with the expected MM update. I'm trying to keep my weapons within a level of each other, just in case.
