You'd be surprised how many people actually feel the same way. I'm surprised how many people don't... It's off topic, but I'm going to say it. I feel this way because I've had all that ?poo-poo? in my life before and It still didn't make me happy. Even knowing it wouldn't, I tried it anyway and all it did was make me lose myself. With all the poverty, hunger, terrorism, wars & suffering in the world, with out planet slowly dying due to pollution, deforestation and wildlife near extinction. With the other 1000 crisis situations I didn't mention, I understand why people wanna just "forget about" it and get sucked into just partying and living it up. Or get sucked into thier TVs. But the problems aren't going to go away and they aren't going to fix themselves and to say "well ?firetruck? it, I'm just going to live it up and get mine, screw everything and everyone else", that's not only selfish but extremely closed minded. Then to go further and influence and set this kind of example to others is like spreading a virus. You've been able to articulate well something I've had trouble putting into words. I have had a distaste for Conor McGregor for all of the same reasons. But more than that, I am discouraged and disheartened that he has such a following who are lining his pockets full of cash. Everyone knows who he is, myself included, yet most of us couldn't tell you any of the names of the firefighters who entered the world trade centre to try and save their fellow man. I find this truth unsettling. It seems like there are hordes of people heralding that he is 'winning at life'. If that's the case, then I would kindly like to question their metrics for 'winning', for all of the reasons you stated above. I'll tip my cap for his professional achievements, but don't pretend he's the second coming of Christ. I am well aware that my problem is more with the state of our society than McGregor though. I think the only thing to do is to try and venerate those who are under appreciated and not jump on the bandwagon too much for the people that are over appreciated. Otherwise we turn into a society of people that only value fellow humans who will increase our bank balance or feed our sexual appetite. And if the whole of society is that hollow, then I'm sorry, I don't wanna be around anymore. Thanks to those who may not be venerated or appreciated in the eyes of the world, but live a life valuing others greater than themselves. Although I feel like you are probably the minority, you encourage me and I salute you. o7

Went according to script. lol He was so gassed at the end. Do wish they just let him play it out but I can understand safety issues cause McGregor didn't really have a guard stance.

Well MG performed better than I thought, kudos to him. But really? Let's take away 50% of what makes a fighter good and put him in a fight with another fighter from a different discipline who happens to be the best in his weight class? And people would play to watch that?
What's next? Mayweather does MMA?

People (like me) tuned in to watch a fighter fight a sportsman. Boxing and MMA are both sports, but they are worlds apart in what they are. Boxing is to fighting like Tai Kwan Do is to martial arts. MacGregor proved that. Here is a guy who went in to his first professional boxing match (and only the third one of his life) against a guy who was 49-0 and considered to be one of the greatest of all time. Not only did he get in the ring with that guy, he went 10 rounds with him. almost 30 minutes. He won 4 of 10 rounds, so *almost* half the rounds of the fight. And he took it to Mayweather the first 3 rounds.
Boxers routinely come over to MMA, and they lose. Holm is the only exception to that statement. If you were to take Mayweather, let him train MMA for 6 months, and then put him in the octagon with MacG...... it would be over in the first round. Less than 5 minutes, vs the almost 30 it took for Mayweather to win. The Notorious one was the winner that night, no matter WHO had their hand raised at the end.

"Boxers routinely come over to MMA, and they lose." Of course.
Boxing is just one aspect of MMA. To be a multi-dimensional fighter one has to be competent in boxing, wrestling, muay thai, jiu-jitsu, and taekwondo. If your strength is boxing then your opponent will capitalize on that and to take you down; and you as a stand-up guy will work on your take down defenses to try to keep it from going to the ground.
I didn't expect CM to get knocked out in the first round. Anyone who knew FM knew he was going to take his time, look for holes, tire his opponent out and then go for the kill--not to go toe to toe with a bigger, stronger, younger opponent, with a reach advantage.
CM as an MMA figter is conditioned to act as the aggressor since you get points for that in MMA. FM didn't care about who won the round, he's patient, he cared about who won the match in the end. And in the end, CM was spent, FM changes gears and goes in for the kill. CM was a lion that had fallen into the water with a crocodile.
Sure CM lasted and got some good shots in, but then again any competent MMA fighter could have done the same. In fact, I bet Diaz would have faired better because of his stamina and chin. So, sure, kudos to CM but he lost in a fight that should never even have happened.
As I said earlier, "If McGregor loses, people will revel in the fact that he was able to do so much despite his inexperience (in professional boxing)." That's what people are saying now.
The real winners are the promoters, CM, and FM; they got their nice paychecks. The losers are the people who paid to watch this match expecting something miraculous was going to happen.
JMO. I do love both boxing and MMA but they should stay in their respective corner.
