I think Mayweather will give McGregor a lesson or two. I don't know enough to say when or how, but it's a boxing match, which is all Mayweather has ever done, while McGregor has boxing skills among his other MMA skills. He's a hard jitter no doubt, and he could possibly win if he manages to get a few hard shots in, but I don't think Mayweather will let that happen. Different story if it were a street fight, but it isn't. So I'm going with Mayweather.

I havent been following it much. What gloves are they using? I'm pretty sure I saw that they're going to use 8 oz gloves. I saw a video clip of Chris Cyborg training with an Olympic boxer, and as tough and strong as she is, you could easily see the difference in boxing styles. The boxer was just so crisp and clean with a pure technique. Cyborg is one of, if not the most hardest hitting women in that sport, and she looked to be a lot in defensive mode for most of the session. McGregor might be tough and a hard hitter, but I think Mayweather's speed and technique will prevail.

The only way MacGregor beats him is if Mayweather throws the fight. That would be the biggest upset in combat sports history and would setup an immediate rubber match. You think this fight is big, can you imagine the cash generated from the rematch? And make no mistake, these two have both made known their love of money. I'm an absolute MMA fanatic, but there is no way Conor wins that fight honestly on the 26th. I hope Mayweather fights for real and does what he's supposed to on Saturday.

Mayweather hands down. The dude is going to gather up points and just work his finesse around him. McGregor can't stand toe to toe with him in this type of fight. The small offshoot chance that Mcgregor has is in the 1st 2nd or maybe 3rd rounds, he takes a wild berserker mentality strat, takes a bunch of punches to get close and see if he can get some big swings in there to get a lucky uppercut on the chin or major punch or something that knocks Mayweather out. I'm talking major major small chance with this. But this is throwing out the textbook, forgetting about the points battle and get crazy and upclose. If his gamble doesn't work, he's going to have taken counters and hits that will cause his eye to swell or body shots to make his arms drop. That's how I see this playing out. But on the win-win side, they are going to make loads of money.

The small chance is if Mac gets May in a clinch and then throws an unseen elbow. LOL.... Just kidding

I don't know what this match is about, but a previous reply said that this match was under boxing rules and that the gloves were the lighter/less padded kind.
If that is so, then this match is a joke as stand up boxing only occurred on MMA when the sport demanded from its fighters that they stay on their feet more - as prior to this MMA was really about ground work, but this combat was seen as boring and bad for ratings.
The only way McGregor wins is if he gets lucky, as there should be little chance of him landing head shots (and MMA fighters don't throw body shots with their hands) on May.
I don't think this "fight" is worth seeing IMO - as we all know May wouldn't last 1 minute against Mac in an Octogon, but when fighting with boxing rules.......

when i first heard about this fight the Muhammad Ali vs Gorilla Monsoon fight came to mind.the real winners are the fight promoters.
Mayweather wins though as much as i always wanted to see him lose his boxing skills are just high a lvl for McGregor to overcome i think.

Mayweather, even though older, will not lose to a UFC non boxing fighter no matter how tough they may have been. You are taking away all his skills in grappling, kicking, etc and making it a boxing match. Props to them for making money but in the end Mayweather will win hands down. Like I mentioned above, the only way Mcgregor will win is A) the match is fixed, which isn't going to happen. Mayweather has an undefeated record and way too prideful for that to happen. B) McGregor, throws the textbook out the window and comes swinging berserker mode at Mayweather and gets a lucky punch that knocks Mayweather down or really handicaps him somehow for the rest of the match. Downside is he will have to take punches to eye/body to even get close but may get some swings in if he goes this route. (Like a 1% chance im my opinion, but you never know) Look at this promo video on instagram a bystander took. I love what one of the comments someone wrote..."What kind of moves are those" LOL. Look at him side stepping and what not, smh, what a joke and he's totally out of his element. But they are making money so can't blame them lol. instagram link to video: http://instagr.am/p/BYGxHxflvC_

Not really indicative of his game (I hope... well... maybe not, if he does that 「dookie」 in a boxing match it will be entertaining AF!). Either way, I don't doubt that he has trained, hard, for this. But I do doubt that it will go the way he wants it to. I won't venture to guess since I don't follow any sport like I used to, and no idea what Mc G's background is nor what he does to train... but if he has 0 boxing in his history, then I expect that the result will be as predicted here... I admit to not watching UFC since... well last thing I remember is Anderson Silvia broke his leg (dayum that was tough to watch, and I've seen a few breaks irl!) so, I ask my fellow forumites: is Mc G any good in the UFC ring? If so, what are his strengths? Does he at least have a good stand up game? All I have seen of him are pre-fight interviews, weigh-ins, and some little snippets of video with his crew. He seems like a funny guy, but other than that... no idea of what got him to the spotlight. I would be impressed if he can even hang with May. Seriously impressed. Wholly different game, re: boxing as compared to MMA. From the pacing, to the mental aspects and considerations, to the type of physical stresses and the training required, to the strikes themselves. Sure, you can use Boxing strikes in MMA, but you rarely see a bonefied boxer... too much ground game and leg game to defend against and train for. The glove issue may be a factor... if May is not used to them (or even more importantly... getting HIT by them) it could throw him off... but enough to change the fated path we all think we see? Meh.

Mayweather going to Cream him.

like i said before Mayweathers skill may just prove to overwhelming for McGregor but there is always that one punch no one saw coming. i think Mayweather will most likely stick to jabs and go for a win by decision thus leaving room for a rematch that way McGregor can say Mayweather was scared to straight up trade punches in the middle of the ring.
those are just mt thoughts and if i was a promoter would hope for those result$$$$$$

Mayweather has a lot more to lose.
If McGregor loses, people will revel in the fact that he was able to do so much despite his inexperience (in professional boxing). Mayweather loses, it'll be the final (choose your pun here) to boxing.
I used to box in college and I love MMA but this fight's a joke and I hate these matches; they're like a Japanese freakshow when they used to put Fedor in a ring with Hong Man Choi (?) to see what would happen, or when Ali went against that sumo wrestler.
This is Dana White's wet dream though as he's desperately trying to get MMA to the same level as boxing money-wise.
I dislike McGregor and I was elated when Diaz submitted him. I do hope Mayweather wins but remember he hasn't fought in 2 years and he's 11 years older than McGregor.

Mayweather's a defensive fighter so he'll spend the first round analyzing Mcgregor and holding back. McGregor--despite also being a defensive fighter who likes to stay on the outside and use his speed to get in and out quick--will wind up being the aggressor. Why? Impatience and because he has the reach advantage and will try to utilize that. But what most people forget is how good a defensive fighter Mayweather is. McGregor will miss a lot and this will weigh on him. Then Mayweather's will slowly pick him apart. By the 5th or 6th round Mcgregor's going to be winded. Remember how exhausted he was during the Diaz fight? Mayweather could play it safe and take his time but I predict he wants to make up for that lackluster Pacquiao fight, send MMA a message, and really go out with a bang. So, he will go for a knockout. JMHO.

The glove issue may be a factor... if May is not used to them (or even more importantly... getting HIT by them) it could throw him off... but enough to change the fated path we all think we see? Meh. In my opinion one of McGregor's biggest strengths is his psychological warfare. In the public eye he has never lost momentum and has used that massive promotional and public spotlight to put tremendous pressure on his opponents before the fight has already begun. He went on a world tour with Jose Aldo and spent the whole thing goading him and getting him genuinely very, very ANGRY. And angry fighters don't usually think clearly in the ring/cage. He won the Featherweight title in like 13 seconds with a quick left, catching Also on the way in. Then in his next fight he won the Lightweight title against Eddie Alvarez, who himself could probably also fight at Featherweight. He hasn't been able to get Floyd angry. In fact they look kinda chummy sometimes... His strengths are his speed and movement for MMA. The combination of these two generates great power, and McGregor has that one punch knockout power - with 4oz gloves.... Not sure that will translate over to 8oz though. Since McGregor has tried to slander his boxing training partners, saying he kicked their 「multiple dookie delivery chute」 in the gym (simply to promote this fight), some of them have spoken out. One commented that McGregor did have good power and got a couple of punches in. However, he said after a few rounds he was able to walk him down because his footwork is not up to scratch for that of a boxer's. And I think this is the key here. Boxing is all Floyd has ever known. Boxers are MASTERS of footwork and know exactly where they need to be in order to land punishment and avoid it in return. It's their craft, and none is better at it than Floyd. Give Floyd a round or two to calculate Conor's footwork and it's gonna be a LOOONG fight for McGregor. Conor's only chance is knockout in Rd 1 or 2. I think even Conor knows this. Expect him to throw everything but the kitchen sink in Rd 1..... Just my thoughts - don't bet on them, cause I've been wrong before.

Mayweather will probably win but I would love to see that piece of ?poo-poo? get the living ?firetruck? beaten out of him by anyone and everyone.
I can't stand ultra materialistic money hungry ?illegitimate child?s like that.
And NO! I'm not jealous because I honestly could care less about money as long as my basic needs are met and I have a little left over for things I enjoy. I just think that there is a lot more too life than the big "partying-champagne drinking-making it rain on all these strippers-cause I have so much money" influence that's placed upon today's generation by the music industry and reality tv and all that crap. And I can't help but see "MONEY" Mayweather as just another piece of ?poo-poo? in the pile of horrible influence.
Sorry, didn't mean to go on such a hateful rant there but it just came out, lol. Still gonna post it without editing or cleaning it up cause it's how I feel.

Win/loss records are not comparable between MMA and boxing. Promising boxers are frequently given opponents they are supposed to beat in order to pad their records, whereas UFC fighters not nearly as much. It's only when a boxer hits the very top that they really risk their 'undefeated' records which, granted, Mayweather has actually done on numerous occasions.

It's off topic, but I'm going to say it. I feel this way because I've had all that ?poo-poo? in my life before and It still didn't make me happy. Even knowing it wouldn't, I tried it anyway and all it did was make me lose myself. With all the poverty, hunger, terrorism, wars & suffering in the world, with out planet slowly dying due to pollution, deforestation and wildlife near extinction. With the other 1000 crisis situations I didn't mention, I understand why people wanna just "forget about" it and get sucked into just partying and living it up. Or get sucked into thier TVs. But the problems aren't going to go away and they aren't going to fix themselves and to say "well ?firetruck? it, I'm just going to live it up and get mine, screw everything and everyone else", that's not only selfish but extremely closed minded. Then to go further and influence and set this kind of example to others is like spreading a virus.
