So I'm in the cursed iOS Expert League where we share the matchmaking tier with both Master and Champion League players that inhabit EVERY SINGLE GAME. But hey, most of us in Expert have learned to deal with this now and we run some midrange bots so that we don't bot out in 3 minutes. Most of us have learned to do more with less and have become better pilots for it. So it's all good right?
Not necessarily. Every player has to depend on their team a bit, but since we're facing Masters and Champions, we really need the corresponding higher level players on our team to do their job.
So I was playing a BR game in Canyon and I capped centre with my Rog and did as much damage as I could before inevitably succumbing to enemy fire after about one minute or so into the game. I wanted to spawn in my Zeus Carnage on the side beacon so I could flank the reds and provide support fire for my team, but oddly enough it hadn't been capped yet. I saw on the map that my teammate was right next to it, so I waited on the spawn select screen for him to cap it. And I waited.... And waited... After 15 seconds, I respawned in my Carnage at home to run over and see what the problem was. When I got there I saw this:
He was previously right next to the beacon, but to my surprise he had proceeded down into the valley INSTEAD of capping the beacon that wasn't even being contested. I capped the beacon myself and then proceeded to let him know my frustration. I spent the next minute and a half obstructing his line of sight and movements:
Despite my obstructions, we actually did some good damage together and our team won the match. He placed second in damage scoring 3 Au and I was 5th, but got 5Au for most beacons. Here was his hangar:
So the burning question is, why would this Champ with a maxed hangar intentionally not cap beacons? Unfortunately I've been seeing this a lot lately - the top 2 in the damage count are both Champs with maxed hangars, yet they don't cap any beacons. I understand he wants gold for top damage, but he won't get it by losing the match. And he won't tank down a league by scoring top damage each game. So what is the goal here? Do I really have to troll them all so they know how much it screws us underlevelled guys over?
What would you do?
