I'm not a game developer so I don't know if this is possible. In Real Racing you have the option to watch a video playback of your last race. I know a lot of War Robots players record their gameplay and this feature would just make things easier. Say right after the match, the game gives you the option to watch a playback of your last battle. Maybe even lets you download the footage for a small amount of gold?
What do you guys think?

Yes, this is possible. But not if they don't design this from the beginning. First designs are usually rushed without any forethought. You know, just whatever spaghetti code to get the job done. Plus inexperience it looks like. If you design it right, it's really easy. Just save the inputs. And then when it's time to play, decide the source of the input, whether it be a player, computer AI, or saved input from a file. There are other considerations, like whether you want to keep it in synch and store other info. Like the whole system can go haywire if one time a bot dies, and another time it doesn't die due to some small accumulation of error or some timing problem, which causes a butterfly effect and the whole replay goes bonkers. The physics system needs to be run at the same speed, whether it be 15fps or 30 or 60 cause different speeds will result in different things happening. So it's easy, but not so easy if you want to make it robust (robust means prevent the system from going haywire and doing unexpected things).

In theory it sounds great nolsp1 , but in reality it would be a nightmare for Pixonic which is a very very small company compared to EA. Having played RR3 for a number of years they don't even get it right all the time with their replays, some ending before the race is even over. Especially with the longer races on the Circuit de la Sarthe. Right now lag is a concern and complaint of some. Imagine the servers grinding to a halt as multiple players request the replay of their game with the limited resources Pixonic apparently has at the moment. Like I said, in theory it sounds great and I think a lot of players would benefit from it by looking over their game play. But in reality......... ?

Depending on what their engine is based on, there may be a number of plugins that automatically record the play data for replay after the fact. The only obstacle at that point is writing the theater code. They obviously have people working on various projects already; look at the VR demo. It's just a matter of priorities.

I was thinking maybe all that play data on the temporary(?) memory can be be handed off to a separate server to be processed and the players can just be given a link to download or view after a time (not immediate playback).

Instead of full replay.. perhaps a system that record and highlight important moment? Just a min or two videos will do.
I.e last min beacon capture that turn things around Or the fury getting a circle from gareth and die from (full health to zero)

I heard that iOS11 (coming "this fall") will add functionality to record the screen without the need of an external laptop. I hope the rumor is true and looking forwards to it.
although this will allow only your viewpoint and exact playback of the game (rather than a real record of the battle where you can take other pilot's viewpoint), it will be great to just watch again and recap a battle. making youtube videos will become much easier, too.
how about android? is there a way to record the screen on the phone, or does it need also an external laptop, etc? will recording a game make the lag even worse on your phone/tablet?

There are several apps that do that. I've only tried DU recorder myself. One YT vlogger/player (Foggygaming?) says he actually does everything on his phone including editing and adding music and graphics.
