Tri-Aphid Gep is the best choice in gold tier. The other choices get owned by Plasma Gals or other Aphid chuckers as they are too slow to avoid an Aphid strike or a rocket strike.
A Gepard however is pretty much immune to Aphid fire and even Orkan/Pinata fire if the pilot is has good field awareness and just keep moving all the time.

I use an Aphid-Taran Galahad. Pretty fast, with a shield to deal with plasma, and big gun in case anyone gets in your face.

I'd say Leo >> Gep >> Patton. Both Patton and Gep are fragile but Gep has speed; Leo has decent HP and an additional heavy port; Patton's too slow.
Personally I don't have a dedicated aphid setup. I tend to put them on Griffins with tarans.

In Top the consensus choice for "pure" Aphids is the Patton. It will lose 1 v 1 vs a Gepard, but its higher hit points and damage make it the preferred choice on balance, and more top players run it for that reason. The Gepard is very strong on tight maps like Powerplant, but it looses at least as much on open maps- trebs, Tridents, etc in particular pick it appart. If you have room for/ need a pure tight map specialist, however, the Gepard is one of the best at the moment.
The Leo is weaker with pure Aphids but it's more versatile because it can also brawl and push contested beacons. However I'd put it in a similar class as the Aphid / Ork or Taran Griffin and Aphid/ Taran Galahad- not as strong with pure Aphids but multi-faceted, which I prefer.
I personally most often run my Aphids on a Galahad these days, but Griffin are probably most popular with Top players currently, followed by the Patton and then Gepard.

(Aphids/Ancile) Especially after the incoming Ancile buff.

I suspect that Aphid bots in general will get more rare, possibly to the point that top players don't run them, due to the coming aphid nerf. The Pot Head Warrior might be the exception- it's nice for clan play, great to have that shield to hide behind on the center at Yamantau. However on balance I think we'll actually see more Ancile / Taran Lancelots rather than Pot Head Warriors post nerf/ buff. If Anciles become more common that will further limit the effectiveness of Aphids and increase the use of plasma. I suspect the Ancile / Taran Lance might become a staple of clan play as a result.

My thoughts: At the same time, it (The Ancile Revolution) may accentuate, even more, the usefulness of the Thunder Aphid Leo: Thunder to pop the shield, sequential aphid launch right after. Then again, it depends on just how much of a buff the regen gets on those shields... This is from a LG perspective, anyway, can't reliably speak to HG and TT. Also, I can dodge at least a half of a Gep aphid salvo by sidestepping in a Patton. Most times the Gep will win if I go 1 v 1, from attrition, but if he is just a bot shooting targets of opportunity around DC Crater, for example, I just keep targeting the big bots and never stand still. Many times, Aphids don't kill me very fast in the Pat. Patton bot level (speed) matters, to a point, but Pattons really aren't that big, and consequently, the hitbox seems to be small enough that when coupled with the speed of the Pat, it keeps it alive for a while in an Aphid rich environment. It's a flanking DB or PDB that scare me more in the Patton. And yes, the damage of a full Patton salvo is... salivatingly sweet. Mostly... keep head on a swivel (situational awareness level 11/10) when running any bot with Aphid throwers around. I like both Leo and Patton to be honest, so far. I have a natural aversion to Geps but have one slowly being leveled (in between the important upgrades) just for a mobile aphid platform, just in case. The buff could mix it all up though, no doubt.
