Yeah, that sounds good. Plus, mistakes aren't as costly in a midranger, so you have more time to learn. Alright. Working with this team for now... The plasma Golems are tearing it up almost as much as any MagGep, and I'm rather enjoying the mid-range Golem. It's a good start. That is a good hangar. I suggest you try Boa Thunder Taran. It is 30K more health at the expense of 1 magnum compared to the Golem. Plus, the Boa does not get its weapon shot off as easily.

Not a half bad idea. Opens up a few interesting options to play around with... Perhaps try a Quad Mag Patton and ThunTar Boa instead of two Boas, or replace the MRS Golem with a Tulum Zeus Boa. Double hrm.

Don't discount the following layout.. but It's fun and you will find that it's FAR more competitive than it seems it would be, as long as you pilot the bot right. Buy a Griffen. Then, mount it with the med punishers and the light punishers. Then just keep pushing those things up till you get them all to level 8 or so. It's AMAZING to watch those things chew through other bot's HP. Using maneuvering and jump appropriately, you can smoke two or three bots before you die off. It's a beautiful thing.

If I use one Cossack, it'll have a Taran on it. If I'm using 2, I always have 1 each, Taran and Orkan, so that way I can have medium plasma damage or burst-fire splash damage, so it's all about more options. The pairing is especially effective in Bronze-to-Silver for getting that +5 Au for the Medal of Capture.

Double hrm. Quad Mag Patton is not that good. Even the 3x mag + Ecu is not that good, but I use it to push center beacon and waste gepard time. Pattons are too slow and fragile for the mediocre firepower they offer

There are times when Quad-Mag Patton absolutely shreds everything, but because of its fragility, I'd only run Quad Mag Patton with 5 slots where I also have 2 TT Boas (+ Cossack & midranger).

Just picked up my 5th slot.

Well then, go ahead and have fun playing with Quad-Mag from time to time. It can definitely help earn gold, but if you want more useful practice, quad-Pinatas Patton will teach you how to pilot a DB, much more useful to know in higher tiers.

At this point, the Pattons aren't really my style. Too slow, too squishy, and not enough fire power to make up for it. With nothing but light hard points, I can hardly even make a decent mid-long range support bot out of it. I'd rather have any of the other medium bots -- and most of the light bots -- by far. For the moment, I filled the spot with a 3/6 Gepard with two mags and an aphid. I seem to have crept up into a sub-tier where it seems that players with entire hangars full of mag and aphid Gepards are more frequent.** I'm also seeing more heavy bots than I used to... mainly Griffins, Leos and Natashas, but a little less cobbled together looking than I'd seen before. **And yet... I actually ran across one Gepard armed with Noricums. I couldn't believe my eyes.

Well, when you feel like practicing and don't mind suffering losses, I'd say try it here and there. The squishiness is part of its lesson, as Griffins will be relatively squishy up in higher tiers, and a DB needs to be patient and sneaky to be effective. But Pattons, like Griffins, did take a long time to grow on me.
Yeah, Geps with Noricums are funny. I thought they were strictly troll-bots to distract the enemy, but note, if a Gep gets under a heavy, they can hurt 'em quite a bit with the Noris using the uppercut.

But, oh boy, when you take that great leap in the air in your DB Griffin and unleash fiery destruction from the sky on an unsuspecting red resulting in a smoldering pile, there's nothing quite like it

When it comes to DB guerrilla tactics, I'm getting the knack of it with the lighter bots... Generally, wait until a Red's attention is elsewhere, circle around to a flanking position, unload on him, and then run and hide while I reload. Lather, rinse, repeat. The trouble I run into with Pattons is... Patton's don't have the hit points to stand toe-to-toe in a straight up slug fest. And yet, they also don't have the speed to ambush and run and hide (Griffin's can jump, at least). Every time I've tried that, I only get off one good volley, and then get pasted -- the heavier bots just run me down and pound on me, the lighter ones run circles around me. At any rate, I'm slowly improving at skirmishing with Cossacks and Gepards, I've had some revelations using the mid-range "sniper" Golem, and I continue to do well with my "stormtrooper" Golems.

Okay, if you're getting the hang of it, just experiment around with the 5th slot. There are a number of "standard" approaches, but you may stumble on something new or something unorthodox that works well for you.

I'm building gold for another Aphid - I think the only Patton that makes sense is quad Aphid because with the guided missiles you can stay behind hard cover even when firing. And 4 Aphids will hit like a really big hammer. Right now a Gep is my Aphid boat, and the agility is great because I can snuggle up to a building for cover, back off fast and fire, then snuggle up again very quickly. I'll have to plan a bit more carefully with a Patton because it's not as fast. I also hate how the Patton drops weapons like they are cheap...
When in doubt I've taken to running another Cossack for slot 5. Boy can it save your bacon when you have one more Cossack to pull out late game and pick off beacons when most of the reds are dead. I've been opening with Taran Cossack and closing with Orkan Cossack a bit, and that's fun.
Now time for me to try out a Thunder/Orkan boa in the mix.
