Might be a stupid question, but I have no idea.
Thanks for any help

When I have the ecu equipped and get into a battle, I see no controls to activate it. It just stays by my side, useless...

You have to turn your bot so that the shield faces the bullets.

So am I mistaken that I have seen bots move the shield to face forward rather than sideways?

Wonder if ecu shields would be viable if you could turn them

So am I mistaken that I have seen bots move the shield to face forward rather than sideways? ShieldBots Gareth Galahad can move shields forward, Ecu is just a 「fake pee place」 always active shield, you must face it when reloading.

For me, the nice thing about running say, a Cossack with an ECU, is that I got comfortable running through all of the maps somewhat blind. I say that, because when I was capping a center beacon, for example, I needed to face the shield in a direction I wasn't moving to absorb the enemy fire. With the 3rd person view holding position based on the legs I couldn't see where I was going. After a bit I was comfortable moving that way and I feel it helped my overall performance.
