Definitely need a higher level of situational awareness than average to run a Gareth welll... I still have to use a griffins jump or the tankiness of a Galahad to bail me out of mistakes.

I still have to use a griffins jump or the tankiness of a Galahad to bail me out of mistakes. because the gareth relies on knowing that you are generally weaker than your opponent, so to use it effectively you must utilise cover and know whats around you at all times. With a galahad you are in the mindset that no matter what you come up against, you will (most of thw time) be able to take them on easily 1v1 without the use of cover.

I agree. Why use a Gareth? Firepower's inadequate in gold, as for capping, you might as well use a rhino. Because it works. Hey, naysayers aplenty for every bot... but I have great success with it when I play it smartly, and it shines on SF and Yam. Long beacon runs at either the opening stages or the mid to late game tug o war can be done quickly and safely, in regards to most threats. No one is arguing against the fact that it dies quickly to splash... that's why you pay attention to the battle and don't get into range of an aware Trident or Russian Death Button or Death Button user. If I do get close to either a Trident Fury or a Carny unawares... that "inadequate" firepower will kill both, and with knowing how long a Trident takes to cycle, I can hit and run well enough to do damage, and if it isn't enough, head for cover. If you chase or wait for me... then I have already done the best thing I could do... taken your attention away from the rest of the Blues. If not, and you go back to them, I will shoot you again Galahad is better for the way one would play a Galahad. But the way one would play a Gary is more like a light bot... which it is. They were never meant to be compared or substituted for each other in the first place... why do people do that? Because they look the same? I'll happily drive a (sic) sucky bot that averages several kills/very decent damage in most games, and all kinds of beacon grabs and home beacon threats and confusion. I'm OK with that. It's a very tactical bot that relies on speed, and that dismissive attitude people have towards it. Hell, I have won a game 4 vs 1 on SF... because they couldn't catch up and I was turning beacons and moving on before they could get to the last one I was at... turned a Beacon Bar deficit into a surplus, and literally won the game. A rhino may be able to do that... but if it is forced to engage, it usually has to stick with it until the fight is over unless it wants to take a lot of fire in the ?bum-bum?... whereas the Gary, usually, can get away close to damage free, unless it is Russian Death Button and Trident fire. To be clear, I like the Galahad, a lot, and do well with it but again, I don't play the Gary the same way. BTW, it only has 1 less light hard-point than the Galahad... it's not helpless, by any means. TEHO though... Cheers and have a Happy New Year! Well said, like any bot, if you learn to run it right, you won't die as quickly. Love my Gary with orkan cause I get into duels with plasma gary and win

While the Gareth has it's place in mid tier, I guess there's no reason to dissuade people from running it in top tier games where griffins with punishers are somewhat of a rarity. Honestly I doubt I'm good enough to be effective with a Gareth against lvl 10-12 bots. That's why I rely on heavies and mids like Galahad.
I'm sure Salty runs 6 Cossacks (all individually named) in gold tier.
EDIT: LOL, sorry guys. This post sounds kind of passive-aggressive.

Nah, it's fine. We all know, only Salty can run Cossaks in Top Tier. ?

Otoh, I've see a grand total of *one* player using a Gary effectively in maybe 1000 games in high gold/tt. That guy was good, used flanking to support and annoy, dodged splash by baiting movements and overall distracted Team Blue by making runs at far beacons. Will be interesting to see if the upcoming speed buff will make this bot more common in higher tiers.

I created a 10/11 light bot hangar to platoon with low gold clan mates. Gareth is one of the few that can take a few hits. Currently outfitted with orkan/piñata. Most bots I face are bigger, many are shielded, the rockets seem more effective to me. In lower tiers, I can see plasma being a better choice. The first setup I tried was punishers. I liked that setup, just not enough damage. Definitely a different play style,on open maps the better choice. On tight maps was a disadvantage, harder to use the range advantage. If I had two gareth, one would be orkan/piñata the other punishers. If gareth was viable in bronze or silver for me, it would be plasma.

So, I ran the plasma Gareth for over a week, now. It always was my first bot. It is a nice ride, when you just follow some rules. Be sneaky. Know the terrain. The shield doesnt replace cover. Know the enemy locations.
The Gary never dissapointed me. I even slugged it out with a full molot Griffin, after it was sure, we got beacon domination. It was close, but I made it out alive.
