Entry level question time...
My carnage piloting skills are fledgeling and the Tridents are weak...
how ow do I shoot the trident for maximum effect for bots hiding?
also...
general piloting advice for a Tarnage (did I just make that up)?
appreciate your experience and the time you took to read and reply.
Cheers!

Tridents are ho-hum till you get them to at least Lvl 9.
Tridents are great mid-range weapons with lots of splash damage so do use them as support. One way is targeting shielded bots that would otherwise be difficult for your teammates to take down (rhino, britbots).
Carnage is good for zipping in and out of that 600m range. Unload then get beyond 600m or else you may get taken out by other carnage tridents.
Because of its speed, I find the carnage perfect for flanking especially on maps like Yamantau.
Do watch out for trebs.
Edit: Level up the bot itself also (at least to lvl 8); it's fragile and needs all the HP it can get.

If the tridents are too low level for your league, your piloting skills won't matter.
To make full use of a carnage shield, mobility and tridents range, it's best for you to decide if you want to flank depending on the map, make use of your mobility to target trident furies, or just play it like a normal trident bot but keep moving and not just stay in one spot. If you keep moving, you can often get into blind spots where reds fail to notice you till they get hit. This forces them to get out of their safe zone.
I'm playing a Zeus carnage, a recent development, I suggest as a trident carnage, you stay away from Zeus bots. A Zeus fury will eat you up unless you have enough cover to hide half your body. As a Zeus bot, I will specifically target mid range carnages because my team will have a harder time with them. The Zeus damage is odd though, I have 22k damage per 5s, but I don't think I'm doing a full hit on a 90k health carnage or 120k griffin, since their health bar don't drop that much.
One thing I noticed as a trident fury playing against trident carnages, the good carnages maintain very good distances when they approach to attack me. They seem to sprint in to 600m, hit a volley and sprint out as the sprint timer winds down. Sometimes I fail to notice them, sometimes I only hit some of their shield with a partial hit. They recover while hitting my team and come back to repeat when they have shield and sprint. I can only say, it's a bad idea to try to attack a fury when two of their furies are in range.
In maps like Yamantau, it's good to flank with a mid range carnage. Reds will get mad enough to start chasing you because you have reach to hit them while they are safely on their side of the ramp. Just back off early when they chase, geraths can reach you very fast, others not so much.
To hit someone in cover, simply keep them in target and shoot by the side of the obstacle, sometimes the explosion can hit them if the cover is wide enough, sometimes it won't hit them. The tridents will explode in their range only if you keep them as the target. The walls around the Yamantau mid beacon are thin enough, so sometimes if the red is sticking right to the wall, you can simply hit the wall and hurt them. I think when you're experienced enough, you will know if the red is sticking to the wall for sure simply by gauging the opponents distance to your trident position. The floor of the mid beacon on moon map is also thin enough for tridents to hit if you're standing below the red. But you're probably very dead if you're standing exposed in that position.
Avoid trebs, geckos and Zeus. All 3 hurt, stay out of line of sight. Flank the other way if you must.

There is a known Zeus bug, which result in damage not being registered at all. It is being fixed, and probably will be entirely in the next release (late May-early June)

Carny was at the beginning quite disappointing to me as well. Things change once you get the bot up to L9 and Tridents / Zeus to minimum L8. At that point you start to see actual damage. As other mentioned - stay clear of zeus and treb loaded bots. Zeus are even more range as they operate at the same range as you do. Trebs are a real menace but can be often avoided by proper field awareness and use of terrain features to minimize direct exposure. Try getting a set of zeuses one day - they are imo better match to Carny characteristics. Tridents work better for me on Tasha with molots (or pins depending on one's preference).

Although you've asked for Carnage advices, bear in mind that you still may try Natasha. While it's slower, it has more HP so Trebuchets and Zeuses are not such pain. Also, upgrade to lvl 9 is quite cheap and 30 km/h is slightly better.
As a benefit, 2 more light weapons. Molots, Pins, Spirals, Gekkos...lots of options for midrange. Some of those can help against midrangers (IMO easier that running back and forth in Carny as described above).
Unless you've tried it, IMO it's worth it - it's just a little bit of silver anyway.

Trident range is 630 if you're pushing it, use that to your advantage when facing other trident bots. Fury trident bots can take out a carnage in 2-3 salvos, co don't try going head to head with them, more peak and shoot.

I have done this many times in Yamatao bridge, but not many spot can do this since the Fury has to be at same height as my Carnage.

Yeah yam is tough to do this, much easier on maps that are more flat like Shenzhen or canyon.

Just imagine you're Michael Jordan at the 3 point line, swoop left and right around cover and target armored bots. Be sure to hold your aim for the duration of the 3 shots. Then get to cover and look for new target. Carnage Trident is a Trident fury killer imo.

Welcome to - Building successful Trident Carnage in 8 Easy Steps:
1) Carnage to L9, max speed, you want that!, you NEED that!! 2) Tridents to L8+, they need to blow ?poo-poo? up! 3) Get out of range / behind cover 4) Target bot... Wait for it... 5) Sprint...Sprint...Sprint... 6) Fire..Fire...Fire!!! 7) Sprint...Sprint...Sprint... 8) back under cover
REPEAT....

Harass and hide, check all visible targets, prioritize, lather rinse and repeat. You won't have to worry with conflicting ranges since both Tridents are 600 meters and the dash ability can get you through a hot area in a pinch. As stated before, avoid energy weapons and close-range engagements like the plague.
Another important tip is know when to eject and when to deploy it. I usually start the match with something disposable like a Patton win Piñatas to see what the team needs, then go from there. If your team has gridlock and you're ahead, go ahead and bust out the Trinage and play midfield.
That's about all my limited time using it taught me, I prefer vanila Carnage with Thunders myself.
