in my mind, the battle is limited to 6 pilots per side due to the technology and workings of the insertion/dropship only being able to drop 6 bots at a time. Perhaps the clan size is limited by the capacity of interplanetary ships to carry 36 pilots, bots and support crew. His avatar is a Boa!

Hm, the reason for the apocalypse could be nuclear war. Perhaps the wrong president got into the white house, started a war with Russia, and it degraded into a free for all for the limited resources of Earh. Out of curiosity, aren't you Russian?

Factions (look up the wiki page for details) fight each other regularly on massive multination wars. Meanwhile billionaires find it interesting and thought it was fun to fight with giant robots (who wouldnt.) so they buy themselves robots and weapons from the black market and fight each other on specific arenas with tight regulations like 6v6, beacon capturing, 10min game length, and no destroying escape pods. This would explain why we should buy our own robots and weapons, why bots from different factions can fight on the same team, and why there is beacons in a war. thats practiclly my story lol

Sorry I left my story so abruptly, but i'm back now. Now where was I... Oh yes. And of course the FURY, a "Modestly" named artillery platform with huge amounts of armor. Basically a walking fortress (Somewhere, a Raijin is crying.) The TMC was originally opposed to the FFA (Freedom Fighters Alliance). In the early game, by early I mean around early 2016, The Golem was a deep blue color with some Hebrew symbolism inscribed on the fuselage of the bot. this was later removed and the Golem got a new lick of paint, now resembling the Stalkers and the Gepards coloration. But when the original paint job was still in-game, we could prove that the Golem was from a Hebrew culture. (plus, Pixonic said themselves that the Golem is from the FFA, which is set in Israel. The Golem used to be on its own in this faction, until pixonic revamped the Gepard to have a similar color to the Golem and the Stalker. Now I know that the name "Gepard" is from Germany (roughly translates to Cheetah, explaining the Gepards speed.) But this is because the Gepard was originaly from the Neue Ordnung [GER] and has not undergone a name change. The third supposed bot of the FFA is the Stalker. I believe this because of its near identical color palate to the Gepard and the Golem alike. And its leg construction. All of the FFA bots have the top most leg section (call it the thigh) continues to be the forward most part of the leg, followed by a small secondary section without much panel work, revealing interal workings of leg (ie, Hydraulics, gears, framework etc).
Tell me what Faction you want to hear of next!

I love the strut work on the stalker where the weapon mounts are. Reminds me of old WWI biplanes.

The stalker seems more of an alien and is too fancy for the FFA I believe in the side of lore that states that Walking War Robots is set on EARTH, not interstellar. (its far more fun and down to earth, well as "down to earth" as a game where you pilot giant three story tall robots with legs CAN be.)

Being one of the older folks here (54), I remember playing the battle tech board game when it first came out in the early 80s. The richness of the history and lore was impressive and many of us really got into the story (still have a leather jacket with the Hansen's Rough Riders insignia on the back).
The lore for War Robots will need to be original but if done right I think it could further a players interest in the game. Some backstory and information on why and who we are fighting would allow us to get more emersed in the game and develop clans that fit into the story. This would even further add to a players interest in the game.
The story could be told in part in the short videos Pixonic releases to show new game events and items. Each could give just a little info: for example the new light weapons were developed on Tigres VII by the Confederacy of Allied Terran Systems (Cats) in the ongoing battle with the Dominion Of Galactic Stars (Dogs). In this clip we can see them in use during a battle for control of Kibble III.
(Show clip of new weapons)
Giving a little story about the setting of the game would not need to be expensive.

The honor duels make sense based on gameplay, but the rationale seems a bit off. At up to five bots per pilot it's a ridiculous quantity of bots when you consider how many pilots there are (at all the different levels, no less). Here's what IS limited, though: actual damage to people. Pilots are ejected and your systems won't track them. No one is ever actually injured if it's preventable. I'd lay dollars to donuts that these battles are fought to prevent a) the mass death of soldiers and civilians in open warfare and b) the destruction of the natural resources of the limited planets available to each of the factions. So few planets are habitable. The weapons can decimate entire ecosystems in seconds. These honor battles are clearly fought instead of humanity obliterating itself. I think something like this, but the whole setup doesn't make sense with the story supplied. If pilots eject, then all the bots in your hangar should be able to fight independently because they have separate pilots. There's no environmental damage. I think the closest is it's a game of RC robots like Battlebots. There's no way all the bots in your hangar could be destroyed and then repaired so cheaply IRL.

So I'm thinking more along the lines of an alternate yet parallel universe...(HOPE I USED THOSE TERMS CORRECTLY).. Where human history is mimicked, yet with robots playin the role of MANKIND. Robot civilizations... Robot History.. The ancient Greeks... The crusades... The old west.. The roaring 20s, complete with Robot mobsters and bootleggers. This opens the door for a whole slew of different settings for our lore. Rival "Greek" clans warring for territory... Mobsters battling over turf... Robot colonists fighting their oppressors... Etc and so forth
