Advice needed:
So I have more than enough gold to buy a fifth hanger slot, but not sure if I should.
How does it affect the matching making / AI during matches? What is the formula?
Does the match making / AI match your league level? Bot level? Weapons level? # of robots?
For example if I get 3 kills and 2 beacons with 4 bots and 500K damage with 4 bots in my hanger, do I get LESS silver and honor if I get the same stats with 5 bots in the hanger?
Need the honor pts to get platinum to upgrade the Ming.
I'm a casual player. I'm in expert league and not interested in climbing the leagues. I run a level 8-11 hanger with Natasha, Leo, Griffen and Stalker. Weapons I used are avengers, punishers and T's, thunders, aphids, spark and mangum.

If you are not interest in climbing the leagues, squadding or playing with one extra bot than it makes no difference what so ever.
Match making is based on your league cups mostly. So u will have a lower equilibrium with a 4 bot hanger but the win percentage won’t be any different if you would have 5 slots.

Not really clear to me how does MM work, if it works at all. But imo it will do something like this for your particular case, how often do you mech out with 4 bots? If it's often, then you're probably gonna do more damage, caps and kills with 5 bots. Which means, you'll get up the leagues, which means MM will go nuts on you more often. I don't think number of bots in your hangar is a variable in calculating ag payout.

The alternative for buying the fifth hanger slot is to keep 2500 Ag for the legendary pilot I want or to buy another Spark.
I know what I'm going to do.
1. I did some research here and on reddit, it is unclear how the AI / matchmaking works in War Robots. I wonder how Pixonic responds to questions from players who never paid anything yet LOL. I'll ask them... can't hurt try. Not like they're going to sic the KGP after me.
2. I'm going to save up to 7500 Ag before I buy my fifth hanger slot. That gives me enough Ag in case the legendary pilot I want pops up
3. I know what bot I want in that 5th slot, either another Leo where I get the most kills. Leo is my beacon sitter and defender. Or the Ao Jun I've got in my workshop. Or a future blitz.
Thanks for the advice, I'll bring it back here if I get info from Pixonic as to the exact formula for match making AI.
BTW I do squad often, I run an adult Android clan called "Old Guys"

Matchmaking is a weird algorithm. Buckle up
Pix relies on having you wanting to play at the top in Champions League.
Pix wants your win loss ratio to remain around 50%.
It takes into account your league cup count as to whom they make you play against.
They dish those out based on how you faired in the game. Subtracting if performing poorly adding if performing well.
Pix wants you to rise up in the leagues so they will generally dish out more cups for wins then what cups they subtract in the games you lose.
This will match you sometimes against stronger players so you get beaten so you are tempted into buying "Meta gear" to help you compete against stronger opposition and thus also rising up the leagues.
Having an extra bot will give you greater flexibility with having counter builds and also match longevity.
Always remember Pix will keep matching you in games that will keep that win loss at 50% and keep pushing you up for a while before you will eventually level out somewhat.
I manage to keep in Masters where I like to be by capping my upgrades and mainly using legacy bots.
It's all a psychological mind game with Pix trying to get money out of you.
If you think the fifth bot will make the game more enjoyable than do it. Personally i prefer more bot options during a game.

Just Do It......lol
5 bots is better for you and your team. Compared to 5000 Au modules and 2500Au not so good(some of them) Legendary Pilot....a fifth slot is a great investment.
IMO, YMMV

I don't think number of bots in your hangar is a variable in calculating ag payout. Not interested at all. I have about 100M silver and have not upgraded anything for a while. The simple reason is that I've noticed that when I level up my bots and weapons, I just get matched with harder opponents. Like I was hovering between 45% - 60% win at level 26-29. And at level 30 now with a Kid, Ming and level 8-11 bots and weapons I'm still at 45-60% wins. So I figure there is no reason to upgrade anything, just enjoy the game. I do like to help my team or squad win though which is why I'm considering the extra hanger slot. Just wondering if Pix matches the # of bots in your hanger with the opponent. So lets say our team has 27 bots, does pix make sure the opponent also has 27 bots in their hanger? If so, then I may as well save my gold.

Matchmaking is a weird algorithm. Buckle up Pix relies on having you wanting to play at the top in Champions League. Really not interested, but I enjoy watching the videos
Pix wants your win loss ratio to remain around 50%. Too many losses and players lose interest, leave the game. Too high win rate, it isn't challenging, I agree with this...
It takes into account your league cup count as to whom they make you play against. Same as the other game I play, Clash of Clans, match making by league
They dish those out based on how you faired in the game. Subtracting if performing poorly adding if performing well. Same as Clash of Clans, players sorted into league, leagues based on trophies, trophies based on battles
Pix wants you to rise up in the leagues so they will generally dish out more cups for wins then what cups they subtract in the games you lose. IMHO I would say its pretty even, I could be wrong
This will match you sometimes against stronger players so you get beaten so you are tempted into buying "Meta gear" to help you compete against stronger opposition and thus also rising up the leagues. Same as Clash of Clans, you are nearly always matched with someone stronger, this encourages you to upgrade your army and defenses. But the problem is when you upgrade, you get matched with someone stronger, it becomes a viscous circle - never ends. I've come to conclusion there will always be someone stronger than me or willing to pay money so there is no point in madly upgrading everything. Just enjoy the game. Having an extra bot will give you greater flexibility with having counter builds and also match longevity. I think I'm gonna buy that 5th slot. But after I collect more gold in case I see the pilot I want.
Always remember Pix will keep matching you in games that will keep that win loss at 50% and keep pushing you up for a while before you will eventually level out somewhat. If I were a product manager at Pixonic, I would do that too. You want people to be challenged, so always match players with someone slightly higher than where they are now. I manage to keep in Masters where I like to be by capping my upgrades and mainly using legacy bots. I'm almost at Masters. Looking forward to the bigger silver boxes
It's all a psychological mind game with Pix trying to get money out of you. So many people are slagging Pixonic for being pay to play. I feel grateful that I'm allowed to play this game for free and I find even the new economy reasonable. I think people need to remember that Pixonic is not a charity, their goal is to make money. The entire reason for allowing people to play for free is hopefully they will love the game and spend a few $$. I only have not paid for the game because as my user name implies, I have kids, home (mortgage), car payments (loans), bills to pay etc... otherwise, I would definitely do the operation pass every month. If you think the fifth bot will make the game more enjoyable than do it. Personally i prefer more bot options during a game. This is good advice, thanks!

I'm old school player (2016) and back then only answer was: Get the 5th slot! If you have Titan available, that partly fulfills 5th bot's job, but I would still buy 5th slot. It is only one time purchase. To Pilots, Legendary Pilots and to their skills you can spend x times 5000 Au in no time. Just my two cents.

Get the 5th slot. It is the best return on investment in the game (except for the 4th slot of course). Your arsenal increases by 20% and with it the range of options you have to differing bots for differing situations.
As has been said the MM does not appear to care how many, nor what level, bots you have (it did about 3 years ago, so be carful reading old stuff on managing hangers etc) but now its all about your performance in games. A fifth slot will improve that no doubt, so yes if you get a fifth slot and use it well then your games will get harder, but you will have a stronger better hanger. It's the way you progress in the game as a player, embrace it and keep shooting the red guys.

If you mech out a lot, then yes a fifth slot is a must-do.
Some players don't get past 3 mechs though. Depends on play style.
If you like brawling you can sometimes run out of bot before you run out of time.
