Recently earned a free Viper through accumulating components, never thought I would have any use for it because I ignorantly assumed it was a mid range weap, never really saw it being used any other way. Anyhoo I always thought it was a cool lil snowball chucker and I had a mountain of silver laying around since I hadn’t upgraded anything in over a week, so I maxed it and slapped it on a Strider with halos - WOW!
It fits right in with my barnstorming aggressive style of play. The thing has a TON of juice and the constant firing makes the manual aiming MUCH easier for me. Oh Viper I ?? U.

I run one as main weapon on Falcon as it can tank the 10 second reload most of the time. It works well against other Falcons as the DOT effect bypasses the damage resistance and Spectres go down fairly quickly if you catch them out in the open.
It's terrible against Bulwarks and Lancelot though. Still kind of buggy as well with shots passing through the enemy like the Taran used to do.

i run a dual viper buly playing ffa in low champ league. all gear is lvl9. it is a mid ranger for me, and only effective one in that role(outperforms avengers at above 400m). it is fun to pilot as hell in long maps with little cover:i spawn with this build whenever possible. in short maps with tons of covers, it loses its tactical advantage and becomes an orkan spectre meal.

I see it frequently among Japanese squads, either on Bulwarks or Jun-chans.

If all these damn meta bots didn’t cost 400m to produce, I might agree with you, but I’m currently undergoing a weyland modernisation effort, which means I need to grind out ... 1.6b. I’m not sure but I believe that will consume 4 months of my time. Maybe then I’ll be able to try it out

I have Viper/Ancile Weyland and I seriously consider changing it to Avenger. Projectiles are slow, so it's hard to hit anything at longer distance. At closer distance, damage is not enough to defend from any setup in reasonable time.

Mine are only L10 and they seem to do pretty good work against Bulwark. Against Lance you gotta shoot at the sides of the hitbox just like you do with Tarans to land hits. Works like a charm

I have 2 Vipers on a Bulwark.. LOVE the build.. mine are level 9 and work deceent against another Bulwark.. against everything pretty much.. Depends.. It is a beast against Falcons.. Not good against dragon bots, unless you catch them on the ground.. Great against Hovers.. Spectre Killers.. Once they come out of stealth, it will take them right down.. Most Spectre's out there in Expert are lvl 5-8 and can be taken out quite quickly with Vipers..
It does well against any of the Dash Bots..
I have run them in a mix on a Fury with a mix of Avengers and it is great in a mix with an Avenger or two..
Once I get done building my 2nd Bulwark I will work on a couple more Vipers..

In 1 v 1 scrapping I was surprised at how fast it works at laying down some heavy damage
Manual aiming with tracers is so much easier than say, a dragoon
Really digging it on the Strider with halos, smooth ride

Other than using it once or twice in Skirmish, I can't say. I don't see them out there much, hardly at all, but maybe too soon to tell? However, if Phil's cool sounding pixel thing: is anywhere nearly as cool as: or even remotely as dangerous as: please sign me up. And if you're lucky enough to have two Vipers....

I shelved my L9 Viper for now because it doesn't really work well with any of my current builds. I tried Viper/Shredder Nat on the TS this past weekend though because if I ever get a second Viper, I want to run this on my live account. Right now, I'm doing Avenger/Shredder Nat and it's a ton of fun. The Nat is one of those bots that really give you the Mechwarrior feeling. Maybe cause it's profile and weapon layout is very much like the Mad Cat/Timberwolf. Anyway, I'm often surprised at how fast bots melts with these weapons, even at L9. The Shredders are a bit disappointing in that they don't root as often as I want them too, but they do decent damage. On the TS, the Viper/Shredder Nat was really vicious and it really surprised me at how many bots i killed with the DOT. If I managed to root a red, the Vipers really capitalized on the damage I did.

Works like a charm One lvl 12 Viper on a Falcon. Problem with Viper is that you don't get to utilize the DOT effect when going up against Aegis and physical shields unless you actually hit the bot. Someone mentioned earlier as well that the projectiles are not fast enough. I've had bots at 470-500 metres range that are back pedalling (walking backwards) while I'm walking forwards and they are fast enough to avoid getting hit by the projectiles. Pound for pound I'd still prefer the Avenger over the Viper as the Avenger will tear through aegis and anciles in seconds and gets an added damage bonus against physical shields as well. Much cheaper/quicker to upgrade too. 237,000 total damage including DOT effect at lvl 12 for Viper (assuming all projectiles hit) 367,400 total damage at lvl 12 for Avenger (assuming all projectiles hit) I think the Viper will get a buff or Avenger will get a nerf in future (maybe both?)

Currently using a 2 lvl 7 Vipers on a Carnage. I basically run it like a long range energy Avenger. Due to its low level it doesn't deal high amounts of damage right now, but thanks to its range, its doing a pretty decent job.
Currently levelling the suckers up so I can be even more dangerous.

I tried hard to like that weapon (who doesn’t like snowball fights and tracer rounds).
But firing the Viper feels like firing tracer rounds only. Little damage, almost zero DOT.

Save your Rush ability. You’ll need it in case anyone is coming close! I tried a Viper Avenger combo on a Bully for a while. Wasn’t impressed. Maybe it takes two to tango...

Vipers are more of a skill weapon... Like I said, I love it and I do well with it... But you have to lead with it to take bots out that are moving.. Those snowballs are a tight pattern, not like the Avenger.. Where the Avenger has more of a bullet spread.. The "DOT" effect has saved my butt more than a few times.. I eventually want 4.. I do believe it will get a buff.. Depends on how well it is selling though..

What is DOT?
If it’s the visual line of fire then color me a DOT man. IMO the manual aiming is similar to ember where you have to lead it a bit and it gives you a nice clear visual line of where you’re spraying, which is important when juking and jiving around in a fast bot

The visual line as in tracers really appeals to me. Maybe I need to give Viper another try at some point. Could work well with shredders...

Yes, both, all the above. Volvo Viper with windshield Vipers. I so want one, lol ! Me too. I have a C70 (Volvo convertible), the only thing it lacks to become a “C70 Viper” is a bobble head Stan on the dash. Leave it with me, I will report back to headquarters later on this.
