Thread for BR - Carrier Tactics
Rectangular - soccer/football field shape with lots of cover, good map from range, brawling, whatever blows your skirt up.
Keys:
1. Blue made a stronger push for CB, critical for this map 2. Blue defense of CB was good, as was the follow-on push into the red side of the ship 3. Red seemed happy to stay in range bots...common theme in Champions League lately

Come from behind slug out.
The main tactic here I used was trying to not mech out. I'm usually fine with this if we have good territory control, but we never really got to that point in this match, so I stayed very conservative in pushing for beacon control until the end, when the reds were mostly meched out, then went Leroy Jenkins.
Props to my clan mater Tampa2ATL for being awesome during the match!
Comments/criticism welcome.

Tactics:
1. First drop - Strider - get to CB and try to control the territory nearby
2. Powercells - taking them liberally (like a ghetto 「loose lady」) while playing peekaboo with Pursuer helped extend the bot and slowly advance the line/steady push
3. Finish with heavy hitters - when the momentum was shifting and my Pursuer meched, I dropped Spectre and went to work, saving Inquisitor or Hover for a final showdown, but it was done before it came to that

I drop my strider and I'll aways spot the side with the ramp closer to CB and move that direction after I turn the beacon. Or if I notice I'm alone and 2 or more red cappers are coming into center i'll back off to the ramp and try to lock down or preferably kill reds moving into center. At least get them to take cover and second guess moving in until the rest of the blues that dropped slower bots get there.
I save my pursuer to recover CB if it's lost during the match.

full-squad BR*1 vs 5-squad MAX
Tactics:
1. Clan recognition, I know the MAX clan, they have the latest, greatest Phildos, Last Stand, Heavy Armor, Nuclear Reactor...all maxed. However, their tactics are mediocre, they, and other like them, over rely on special abilities...playing Ares in trains, etc. Best thing to do is counter punch, and this vid is a pretty good example of that.
2. Patience. They easily took CB, and challenging it in the first minute would have brought us closer to meching out, and we ended up making them do this.
3. Using the abundance of cover this map has to offer. It's there, use it, exploit it.
4. Punching them below the belt. We did a pretty good job of timing their cool downs, and expoiting their Ares train camping.

m20 Apr 19, randoms vs randoms, tactics: 1. Pushed into CB with Hellburner, the Ancile would have been better here, but got the cap anyway 2. Paused for 2nd drop (to CB), so try to get a better jump on the reds with Ao Jun (it worked out) 3. Suppressed the lower level, as usual, pushed all the way to E when I felt like the opportunity presented itself 4. Since I was now in an ideal flanking position (with Ao Jun) I took advantage of this great chance and raised hell at the red end of the ship 5. Didn't control territory very well, but meched the reds (eventually). Music: Bambi, song: Another One Bites the Dust (Queen) Music Fatboy Slim, song: We Will Rock You (Queen)

29 Apr 19, randoms vs 2-squad, no boosters, Quantum Radar used (no healing), no last stand, battle born etc. Tactics:
1. Get to CB asap, and see if you can push (or get pushed). 2. Decided to make an aggressive push into B, although I had a LR-garbage Zenit idiot, so wasn't sure if others would be there for support or just stay back (which happens a lot). 3. Couldn't turn B, went back to defend D, then worked on pushing the line forward. Zenit idiot still doing his (or her) thing. 4. I felt that the reds weren't interested in pushing, so used my bots (until my 5th) to push myself. 5. Burned through bots 3 and 4 fast, so had to hug cover on bot 5 (Hover), but that's also my strongest bot. 6. Zenit idiot still lobbing.

6 May 19, tactics:
1. Quick glance (as always) to see who is in what. 2. The reds had center (C) well covered, Hellburner(s) etc. so I fell back to buy time 3. This is a good example of using Ember as suppression, just b/c it isn't directly doing damage, doesn't mean it isn't helping the blues. If you're helping keep the reds pinned back, the other blues can push the line forward. Redeemers and Avengers are less effective. There are great advantages to the Embers slow release. 4. Reds did a great job of breaking the blue line, so I was doubling back to sort this...a great lesson for all...make the other team retreat their front by breaking their line. 5. Although the reds were dominating the beacons, it seemed like they were doing this at the price of a lot of mechs, so I tried to preserve mine in anticipation of a later showdown (which eventually came). 6. Between 4:00 and 3:00, I noticed the reds becoming passive, an indication that they're on their last bot(s), and the blues cranked it up a notch 7. Hover isn't great on Carrier, so I play the corner shooting game as much as I could, watching any juicy cherry that may drop out of the tree.... 8. As expected, the red's over-aggression came at a price, and in the end the blues meched them out, with a sliver of beacon bar left....epic

8 May 19, tactics: 1. Had to weather the storm at (C) and even (B), the reds pushed really hard and sustained their push for about 5 minutes. 2. Their push basically was going forward and firing, which then collapsed on them around 4:20, at which point the blues had a mech numerical advantage, and the reds were out of bots, so had to shift to playing defensively. Although way behind on the beacon bar, we smashed the hell out of them right at the end. Nice comeback ha ha ha Music: Charlie Parker, song: Si Si Music: Glen Miller, song: In The Mood (remix) Music: Benny Goodman, song: Sing Sing Sing (remix)

12 May 19, tactics:
1. This CB is so open and without cover, I don't go crazy trying to cap it. Since I'm without my Strider at the moment, I play it by ear. 2. There was another blue pushing forward, and I think it is lame to let him (her?) die without following the push, which if sustained risks meching the blue team, but should back the reds up of the brawling is forceful. The reds pushed back way harder than the blues, but did so too recklessly, and then were wiped out by the numerical disadvantage. 3. The map is ideal for Pursuer, I always try to watch how I fought in this bot on this map, to see what mistakes I made and need to work on 4. Hover is my last draw in this map, and if I don't run it, it means were either won or lost a one-sided match.

It goes up against kumis, HB, and striders so it has a good chance of surviving the initial wave. This was the one of the first maps where I figured out my playstyle for the Hover. Just stand behind the tallest tower, and shoot straight up, and fire into any reds trying to go for CB. If i'm lucky and use all the tricks in my bag, then i can last until mid game. At that point, you can use the Hover to attack their base and get a couple good hits in. There's a LOT of cover they can hide behind, so i find the Hover is able to easily exploit it when they are crossing between the gaps. This map is really good for the Hover. This maps seems really open at first, but once you understand the map a little better, it opens up a lot of opportunities for my hover and different ways i can attack on this map.

It's not a bad first drop, actually. And yes, I've exploited every square inch of that map: the towers, the fans, etc. It is all over these videos in this thread. But Ao Jun (my Strider is levelling ATM) can blast everything around CB to smithereens, so between the two choices, I stand behind Ao Jun until I get my Strider back in the game. However, I'm lucky enough to be involved in a 2 vs 2 or 1 vs 1 showdown, I have my strongest bot (for me anyway), capable of managing distance, capping, and of course fighting. Ares and Juns are OP compared to Hover, but in a 1 vs 1, I just force them into using their ability, then finish them off during their cool down.

14 May 19, tactics: 1. Pushed into CB area, and lately I've been trying to suppress Ao Jun's flying height, as the lower level is where reds camp during cooldowns, etc. 2. The red's were not pushing too hard, so I tried to help bring the line forward, one red push a little, otherwise they fought passively 3. I try to manage my mech rate to end a match with more than one bot, in other words, I want to be in my 5th bot at the end of the match, if possible. 4. Got my favorite thing, a showdown in Hover Music: Spekfreks, song: Bebop Music: Milton Brown and His Musical Brownies, song: Brownie Stomp

30 May 19, randoms vs randoms, tactics:
1. My favorite initial perch for Ao Jun is the further forward flight but left starting from this side, and right from the other side....opposite from the side with the beacon. I find this a better place to defend the center with the ramp, push further down etc. 2. Reds got center (C) quickly, but my exchange with the pursuer I think was good, as the pilot went into stealth and I would have been in a more vulnerable position had I stuck around to wait for his stealth to expire, pushing down caught a red off guard, it appears. 3. Although the reds had us 4-capped, the forward push at least made them spawn back, spreading them out. 4. This map is good for Pursuer, which I used to ambush after cool down. After my Pursuer meched, my Ares play was poor, but spawning in Hover allowed me to take cover behind the talls masts on one side. My thinking is pin the reds with Scourge (while up) and allow blue to advance, which they did (whether I helped on not...not sure). 5. Reds basically dominated the beacon bar, but just before the match was over they ran out of mechs and we won by a sliver.

31 May 19, randoms vs 4-squad (Omega), tactics:
1. Saw the reds were a lot of the same tag, so tried to up my game, so to speak. 2. Felt their heavy push, so played it safe and looked for counterpunch opportunities. 3. Once Ao Jun was done (which I didn't play too well), I got in Pursuer, who is especially powerful on this map, and went to down. There was a lot of right place at the right time moments. 4. Credit to the other blue pilots who also absorbed the early red blast well, and return the push at just the right time. Knowing when to push is the main difference between Master and Champ players, and by doing this, it made my role a lot easier, instead of the many cases where half the blues are at the back of the ship lobbing Tulus, Tridents etc. thinking they are helping.

31 May 19, randoms vs randoms, tactics: 1. Tried to push to red's hope beacon (E), forcing them to spawn back, drawing their line back. 2. While not successful and getting into their home, I retreated and played the line vs line fight, hard to avoid sometimes with a narrow map like Carrier. 3. The line vs lines eventually yielded a 5 vs 4 advantage, so I took this is a cue to push in and try to win center back. 4. I didn't get CB, but thankfully my teammate did, and pretty soon we have a 3 vs 3 in my last bot (Hover). Drew an Ares into a 1 vs 1 duel with a beacon bar advantage. There is no point in charging, so I stalled the Ares and let the beacon bar win the match. Appreciate the high pressure play of blue teammate BB who capped 5 beacons during this match. This does all kinds of good things to the other 5 blues....besides the beacon advantage and pressure that places in reds, it also keeps the other blues off the tip of the spear, allowing them to get into a better position (which they should do). 26 July 19, 4-squad vs randos, tactics: 1. >bobby_digital< in da house! Thanks Bobby for inviting me 2. In this sequence we we're slowly able to advance the line, leading to a showdown at the end. I was confronting the reds at the end in Hover, and here I don't have the space to negotiate angles etc. like I do on most maps, so I hit the green Phildo button and smashed the hell out of them to try to secure the win! 29 Jul 19, randos v randos, tactics:
1. Took Ao Jun to (B), as usual. Blues pushed into (C) or CB very quickly, and I was able to sneak (D), but couldn't hold it long. 2. Dropped in Pursuer but could not really control the (D) area. 3. Had a chat recently with a member of another clan about the viability of Hover, so I dropped it in 3rd (he was in the match in blue) to show him although this bot is more limited on Carrier than other maps, Hover can still can be effective here.
