***This is a SPOILER for War Robots, Chapter 50 (name yet to be determined).*** . . . . . . . . . . . . . This is now your choice to scroll. . . . . . . . Hey guys, it's me again! Thanks for the help with Chapter 49's math problem. I find that I continue to attempt to push the scale of what is done in my story, because let's face it, an entire book of robot battles exactly like the game would be worth nothing compared to actually playing the game. For Chapter 50, things take another interesting turn. Or, at least, maybe they will. Jackson Quinn's allies are pinned down against the edge of the Dreadnought, assaulted from all sides by TMC forces. They're boxed in, and at that moment a Mercury is poised to drop from the top of the Dreadnought, landing on them all and blowing them away. However, Jackson, who just recently lost his robot and dropped back in away from the battle, sees this plan and attempts to foil it. Which leads me to the question: If a Mercury falls (NOT jumping), can it still activate Helldive mid-fall? Or does it have to be jumping/falling of its own free will to activate it's ability? I don't own a Mercury, so could someone please test this? If Mercury can be pushed off the Dreadnought and still Helldive mid-air it kinda ruins my chapter, so... It's important Thanks, guys.

Haha, good question. Just as a side note, i saw a merc jump over the amphitheatre, trip on the upper edje of the wall and the explosion happened there and not when he landed on the floor. This was on amazon. I am going to guess it will still work regardless of the method of activation.

The ability apparently won't work if Mercury is falling, because it needs to jump to start a Helldive... Thanks anyway!

Mercury's beefy legs probably contain an oversized piston mechanism that when triggered cause a miniature self-induced earthquake, the trigger being manual activation or contact with the ground after a jump, but if it's just falling in general it shouldn't do anything but land, and probably be a sitting duck unless they jump away immediately.

Remember back in the day when doing a lot of damage to a bot can break it's special ability and make it unable to be activated? You could incorporate that into your story if you want.
For example, the Rogatka damages the Mercury a lot and damages its jumping mechanism. I know that this doesn't accurately portray the game, but since your story takes into account real life physics and mechanics into it (like how landing on top of a bot damages it while in-game nothing like that happens), you could totally justify it.

I took that to mean while falling, can you push the button and upon landing will the blast happen. Not just falling and landing.

I believe what he's asking was that if the Mercury activated it's ability in freefall, will the bot jump up and go into stealth before hitting the ground. Like, do you need to be on the ground to activate the ability or not. From the video above, it seems that the answer to that question is a no. You need solid footing to activate the Merc's ability.

Yes that is correct. I tried it on my Merc and that ability button is useless until you are on the ground/surface.
