I have been playing roughly a few months and have always had issues when facing Lancelot/Ancelot. I am Expert level 3, decent hangar, no P2W, just grinding and luck. I came across the Mercury and slaved over components to get. Loaded it up with Thunder and gust and got to work......and was slaughtered. So got mad, then curious, then learned the bot now it is my go to. Anyway, I found something interesting, when I would helldive on a lancelot, then run up to point blank, dead center.......the lancelot weapons couldn't touch me....i mean flat out miss, as long as i stay bearhugging the center shield and shooting, they drop quick. My question is has anyone noticed this? I know the mercury isn't the most popular, but i am looking at the overall size of the Mercury being short and narrow, and the width of the Lancelot's arm weapons and the height of the top weapon. I don't know, just something interesting i noticed.

you are quite right. this face hugging strategy is now very common among pursuer pilots facing lancelots. I now wonder though whether it works all the same for small vs big bot encounters.

It’s works for most bots. I used to do it with my haechi all the time.

Cool, I usually avoid getting that close so it was a discovery.

Here's another tip: When not going in point blank target the edges of the shield. Some damage will get around the shield. If you fire dead center you have to break that shield which takes awhile.

Yes I also encourage that discovery is crucial to defeating a Lancelot close up. I noticed that first when doing battle with a pursuer against Lancelot. It's been my go-to move ever since. That's why when I leveled my Lancelot I put scourges on him. The ancile gives me protection that I need from explosive fire.

If you use weapons that do NOT hit centre mass, ie, Tarans, Magnums, Punishers, you can direct their aim to under the arms or beside the physical shield and kill them easily that way.

for those who have hard times in their Lances against bearhugging Mercs, Lances Rush ability will help you outrun (backpedal) Mercs.

On a partially related side note... Some recent posts in other threads reminded me of a few things. When you used to see a lot of Raijins sporting Thunders, the same thing was true. Their shields would block all or most of their Thunders' shots, and you could hit them with impunity if you had a bot that was wide enough to shoot around them... Like a Lance. Back when the ThundOrkan was common Lance build, I got a chance to try to exploit that weakness once, on Dead City. One unfortunate Red Raijin perched on the lip of the Red's side of the crater, and I charged straight at him and got in his face, literally climbing up his leg as he was situated such that one went straight out in front of him. My Thunder was peeking over the top of his shields and my Orks were set wide enough to go around them to the side. Killed him with almost no reciprocal damage whatsoever. I wonder if it still happens to Raijins that carry Redeemers, Vipers, or similar weapons... might be good to test to see if so. Those were good times... only stealth bot around was a Stalker, and abilities had absolute trade-offs in other areas, like basic performance or durability... but, I digress.
Anyway, forgive the tangent, but your original post triggered the memory.
IMO, YMMV

IMO, YMMV Maybe we can try it one day... my Dragoon Raijin and your Thorkalot. I miss those days where simple bot physics could be used as a tactical advantage. I still remember conquering my fear of Ancilots by dashing my Orkan Bulg in and giving them a face full of rockets. Too bad the Orkan Bulg is a dinosaur these days.... but you still lots of Ancilots....hmm...very interesting.

If you have a Bulgasari with Tarans, you can dash right up into the front of the Lance and your Tarans will do dmg directly to the bot, bypassing the shield.
I used to love doing this when Bulgs were still dominant. Sigh, simpler times.
