Bearing in mind that different setups are required depending on physical vs energy shields...
1. When one wants to take down an Ancilot alone, without a teammate, which is better? 2 medium and 2 light guns? or 3 heavy guns? Any examples of relatively cheap setups are appreciated ($20 - $40 dollars per gun)
2. Which is a better death button vs robots without a shield -- 2 orkans and 2 pinatas? or 2 magnums and 2 tarans?

Well seeing as no one else wanted to give you any advice I figured I'd give it a shot.
I'd have to say a lot of what you're asking for depends on what league you're running in a few squad or not and also your preferred play style support brawler sniper Etc.
A couple of questions I would have is what Bots and weapons do you currently have available to use or are you looking to get a new bot and new weapons for this specific purpose.
When it comes to taking down an ancilot alone these days it's extremely hard plasma definitely not the way to go Rockets get the job done far better. I mean 95% of the time my ancelot gets wasted it's by Rockets.
Some rules of thumb are if it has an energy shield and no physical Shield go plasma if it has a physical shield and no energy Shield go for rockets and if it has both you need a ?dookie?load of firepower with the recent buffs to the ancle. All that being said three Heavies like exodius leveled nicely will take out an ancelot I know from experience.

If you are buying a new bot, consider the raven. It is an upgraded griffen really. If you are considering 3 heavies, then either fury or falcon would be cool. I own a falcon and at first I hated it.. and then I learned how to use it.. lol. Keep in mind that the fangs out shields you for a 66% damage reduction, using only ONE of the exodus' for example. Let the center slot be for the highest level weapon, or in my case as I use mine, my ancille which can only be used on the center hardpoint. I use avengers on the outsides. The 10 second cooldown after using your outside weapons is a pain with an ancille. read == target practice! you are the target and can't fire for 10 seconds. Well I wish you good luck with your decision, and happy hunting!

Thank you both! I've decided to go with an Avenger Falcon and see how that goes. Might get an Exodus eventually when I can craft it

1) fight ancilot alone assume his and your item lvl are the same
Specter orkan Anything with bullets (griffin punisher, natasha avenger, punisher)
... Falcon avenger will do as well. But you must have high levels
What I usually do is to wait for company then pound with my teammate. Once gje shield is down you can hit with tulumbas.
Did you know you can shoot between the lance shields with tarans?
