I've been playing war robots in the bronze league, and I've been trying to equip specific robots for specific tasks so that I can choose the right robots on the fly. I think "It's the beginning of the game. Use a beacon robot!" Or "the enemy is closing in. Use a death button robot!" Or "everyone is far away and I need to support my team, which is far away from me. Use a long-range robot!"
Is there any reason to get a mid-range robot? In what situation would I think "It's time to use the mid-range robot?" In higher leagues what mid-range robot setups do you like using and when/why?

Generally speaking, mid rangers can do more damage than long rangers.
i use a RDB Griff. With that build I can take out brawlers before they get close enough to damage me or my team. At the very least I can damage them so they'll be easier to take out once they get to that 300-350 meter range.

I usually run my hanger with 2 brawlers (0-350m), 2 mid-range (500-600m), and one long-range (800-1100m). Mid-range is more support & suppression. Say a brawler teammate is going for a beacon, having say an RDB Griff to carpet bomb the reds in the vicinity of the beacon might help your teammate take the beacon. I've also been able to pin reds down behind a cover spot, either keeping them from moving toward a beacon or keeping them there until a teammate arrives to finish them off. Beacon control is a big reason, once you have a beacon the reds are going to try to retake it. You can stand on top of it and try to protect it, or drop in a Zeus Fury and pick reds off from 600m as they try to retake it. then there are always those situations where you're facing off against a red that is set up for mid-range, maybe on one of the smaller maps where long-range snipers are ineffective. The red will take a chunk out of you before you close to short-range and engage. You want to be able to do damage as soon as you start taking any, preferably before.
Of course keep in mind that the Orkan Spectre is the most OP bot right now and players run full hangers of them, 100% short-range, and the Shocktrain (most complained about weapon) is a mid-range 500m weapon. You'll see hangers full of those as well, maybe not after the rebalance. So sometimes it might not even be about playing style or strategy, but rather it just happens to be the range of the shiny new weapon you just got. The Scourge, for example, is a deadly weapon and has a range of 600m, so you might want to build a mid-range setup around it.

Mid-range is the best range if you want to get a pile of silver at the end of a match with little to no repair costs.
Built a 7/10/10 drag fury. 1 million damage on TDM/DOM = 400k before premium if I choose to stay alive the whole match and there aren't too many bulgs on the field.
Before in the old days, it was best to run one MR or LR (800-1000m) but in todays meta (before they split random mode up), especially with maps like rome and dreadnought, it's best to have 3 brawlers, and either 2MR, or 1 MR / 1 LR.
Why? Because on random mode, sometimes 1 MR is not enough. My drag fury gets targeted a lot, and as a MR player, and it's good to have a backup especially on bigger maps. On my smurf account, I have 4 brawlers. Lancelot (chest), spectre (first bot I went for), pursuer (ws 2.0) and a rhino (chest). Played BR on yama and got shut down by 2 gekko flux natashas and a flux leo. Our team was too afraid to push them and I use all my bots keeping center.
We were also down a player but our biggest downfall was lack of MR and LR.
I have a gekko/zues (soon to be flux) leo already made, but I am saving up for fifth slot to put him there. I personally like to run 4 brawlers, and i keep on sniper in the back to shut down any MR that will hinder my brawlers. Thin out the heard before you go in to do your dirty work, so to speak

I personally enjoy playing mid range robot setups. Some I currently use would be a Thunder/Aphid Natasha, & Taran Fujin. Normally the best mid range weapon types IMO are homing missile weapons (spiral, hydra, aphid, etc.) and shotgun weapons such as thunder, gust, etc. There are other weapons that work well for mid range bots as well like Tridents and Pins.
I personally enjoy mid range gameplay mostly because you can rack up a lot of DPS without being very close, but not too far either so you don’t have to wait for the long reload time of most sniper weapons. A lot of mid range weapons (listed above) deal a lot more damage than short range weapons and long range ones as well. For the most part. But I think I really enjoy it because you can stay far away enough so you can hide behind walls and (I.e. fire hydras at the enemy and they can’t hit you because you’re covered.
All that to say, I really enjoy mid range gameplay. It’s not that risky like DBs, but it’s not super boring like sniping. And who doesn’t like to rack up that sweet DPS?
