My in game name is very similar to my forum name, but often I find that, usually campers, Spectre Hydra users relentlessly pound you into oblivion. I'm considering changing back to Pilot _ _ _ _ _ _ number issued from Pix,.for a little anonymity, or one of the Chinese or Japanese names westerns go...... Oh smiley face, building with a nice roof squiggly line guy....

Campers, especially Hydra users, target everyone. It doesn't matter what your name is.
Seriously, we've all had games where you take 12 Hydra hits in a row and think "Really? Me? I'm your priority target?"
Another factor is the level of your bots. If a camper hits you and your health goes down a big chunk they will focus on you.

Playing FFA most of the time I don't even see names.
In team play usually don't care but if I see mile long names I will target you if all other things being equal but I usually won't go out of my way.. so it's a low priority.
They only thing that really sets me off is shock trains.. it's like cat nip to me.

I think it may have to do with everybody reporting problems with target lock. So, when a missileboat gets a Target lock, they spam the hell out of it.

I can say I don’t target specific names because I notice them. But, if a pilot takes me out and the name is easy to remember I am MUCH more likely to give them a little extra attention after dropping my next bot. If it’s hard to remember then I just forget and move on.

Playing on a 5.5inch screen phone. Good luck to read 5 or 6 names while tryin not to be pounded in teammatches. But if i notice a red outperforming, getting wrampage and godlikes, then it will likely become my primary target. I guess it's the same for my teammates. In that case, it isn't personal, it's just basic common strategy: taking care asap of the guy who is decimating your team.
On the other hand, i like to keep it personal in FFA. Retaliation and so on. At this point, a number is just a name after all...

I don't necessarily "go after" people with certain names, but if I close in on two reds where one has some fancy name with fancy letters rolling up in a Haechi, and the other is a random in a Leo, you better believe my attention will be focused on the clanner.

What about the people who use inverted triangles spaced far apart so that it looks like an enemy and people aim for the wrong thing?

I can not tell if you are a high level player or a noob without the name. And before you comment, Yes I do know the power players, I am on Amazon for pete's sake, the player base is small enough to know who is who. Although sometimes I wonder if they see my tag and say, Red who??? In other battle modes your name/clan will tell me what kind of attack I need to make.

Unless it is someone I know a name does not really change anything. clan name can give an indication of how strong reds will be / who to avoid.
The only exception would be if the name is / person is offensive. One guy briefly in my clan dropped from a squad because of the flag on one of the non-clan squad mates and said he could not play with someone from that country. I made my feelings known about the racism and intolerance and quickly changed my flag to the same and he made a swift exit from the clan (not sure it was my new flag that did it, but I like to think so). If I see that specific guy I will target him.

Fair enough ) my goal is to beat the team and if I can quickly make it 6v5 by taking out the weak link repeatedly on the other side then I am happy to let the baddest bot in town lose with a couple of bots still untouched in his hangar. i would though more target builds than people - a red hydra spectre definitely gets the bloodlust going.

We all know a good player with a strong hangar can completely upend a game. Knock that player out (or players that fit the profile, as the case may be) and your chances of winning increase dramatically.

I always target the strongest players when possible, because they are a danger. And someone else familiar sometimes for other reasons. Look Who Stalking for example is also my main target when possible.

I just acquired a Spectre in my main Amazon profile. Guess what I put on it? I do tend to target just one player with it in a match and pound that player relentlessly throughout the match too. Especially if I see another Specter sporting 4x?Dookiestains or Orkans. Gotta figure they had it coming for that. And if I see that player in subsequent matches...same deal. I happen to like the Hydra because it represents what high technology can do even in our reality today. We've got "smart weapons" now that can do pretty much what the Hydra does in the game...only way more so. We have missiles that we can launch and forget to actually search out specific targets. Vehicles, planes, even specific people can be targeted by fire and forget missiles that can spend a significant amount of time just loitering over a specific location or locations for minutes at a time just waiting for their intended target to pop goes the weasel. And yes, those targeted by them think they are a pretty ?dookie?ty and unfair weapon. To that I have to laugh my ?bum-bum? off. Nothing has ever been "fair" in warfare. Anyone who thinks otherwise is an utter fool. The only thing that matters is winning and staying alive, not how you do it. And since this is a semi-simulated game of warfare you should not expect that fact to change either. Conventions? What a joke. The "terrorist" knows that you cannot restrict your actions if you are in a fight for survival. That's foolish thinking. Nearly everyone throughout history has labeled their opponents as terrorists in some form or another. The Brits called the Revolutionaries in the 1700s terrorists just because they fought asymmetrically to their own established game of warfare. When you are fighting to win and not for sport it's always best to use whatever resources you have to make it happen. Thus...hail Hydra!!

I keep my IGN the same across games, steam, forum & FB as much as I can so I'm easy to find. I'm not really sure if it makes me a target or not. But I can say, that if I see a name I recognize as a red. They get a little extra love sent their way.

When my mom and I just started playing, my mom ("Sky Woman") reported how she felt people were targeting her specifically, maybe because her name had 'woman' in it.
But with 'Fire Woman', I can't say I've noticed anything like that. Could be that I'm just oblivious - and I very well could be - but otherwise...
