Stay in silver league until you have the hangar you want. Build Kumiho, Haechi, and Inquisitor. Build orkans and tarans to use on these bots. Upgrade both bots and weapons evenly. Make sure to keep all your gold to upgrade these to make it faster to build the hangar you need. Keep some low level bots and weapons to make sure you stay in silver league. This is the best way to compete with pay to play players. This game is not fair but follow these instructions if you to succeed! I have been playing for 3 years and trust me this will definately help you out. Best of luck to all the new players!

Or
Don't chase the meta, break it.
Build whatever you want that makes you enjoy the game.
Accept that some games you're gonna get thrashed.
Enjoy the game within the game. The battle between two bots and not the upgrade.
And above all be patient

My plan for the new economy:
1) Upgrade bots and weapons until I run out of Silver
2) Do not freak out about running out of an imaginary game currency
3) Play more games, destroy enemies, get more Silver

And pixonic will not like it

I play a lot on rainy days when there is nothing better to do. Stormaggedon 2018 is here, so I will probably grind out more than a few million silver this weekend. After that, I will spend the next week waiting for upgrades to complete before doing anything more than my daily bonus tasks. Between WS bonuses, supply drops, and Royale this morning I earned more that 800K Ag just for logging in and watching a couple ads. I balance 2 hangers to maintain my league standing until I feel I am ready to move up, not when Pix thinks I'm ripe for the slaughter.

Why chase the meta? I'm enjoying the game in Gold 1, may drop to Gold 2 but no biggie. I run a brawling ambush 8/8 hanger and I'm working on building other options up to 7/7 to try out. Mostly older weapons and robots that have a chance to be effective in Gold.
I understand if you want to compete in higher leagues you need to have higher leveled gear but for me that's not a big deal.

You may say you are not "seal clubbing", as you don't drop down in the leagues. But you are still beating weaker players with much better bots...

It really doesn’t matter what robots you build as long as you’re happy with your hangar. I would like to see new players do well without having to pay. That is the whole point of the post. You gotta do what you gotta do to get ahead in this game.

Stay in silver league until you have the hangar you want. If you play properly, you can't stay in Silver, you will get higher quite quickly. If you don't want to play properly, why play at all?

I interpreted OP as advising to play lower level bots in a lower league and build a meta hangar in the background - like the old days before leagues. If so, an interesting idea. How much silver can be earned with lower leveled bots in silver (assuming what, lv 6 gear in a legacy hangar)? I assumed the more damage you shell out in upper leagues (plus the better but still paltry drops) earned better silver.
Unless OP is advising to run high level gear in silver league to farm. Then I’ll pass.

Surviving the new economy will require you to plan for the upcoming changes in Penetration resistance. We can not know what else they will screw with but we know a bit right now. I feel for newer players. I have so many bots and weapons, I dont have to buy new. I will get halo and exodus and maybe some others but they will never make it to L12. they will freeze at 7-9. I want their new abilities, root, but after that, Iwill kill with what I have.

Look for ways to save silver. Need a new Thunder? Buy a Vityaz and sell the bot.

I see some ppl misinterpreted what I meant so let me explain. Don’t go in with high lvl bots and weapons and destroy new players. Stay in silver league as long as possible to acquire the bots and weapons you want to use. Then you can gradually move up in leagues without being annihilated.

Yeah I plan on going back to expert league with all sorts of new bots and setups. Like a Punisher Spectre and what not. Keep the levels low, but the bots/weapons interesting. I'm hoping that's what will work well for me.

Stay in silver league as long as possible to acquire the bots and weapons you want to use. Then you can gradually move up in leagues without being annihilated. But why not go in with the best gear the player has and beat the crap out of others and shorten wealth accumulation by 80%. Why not earn 10 gold on average per match instead 1.16 and get a match turned over in 3 mins instead of 10? It really doesn't make sense not to do that if wealth accumulation is the primary objective. Otherwise its an utter waste of a person's time But ya know what the irony is in either case? Under the current system a noob is screwed if stays low or if goes up. Without significant RM investment a noob cant catch up to players with grandfathered gear. To make things worse, players with grandfathered gear will get relatively stronger much faster due to faster and less expensive upgrades and hence the noob will never get out of silver. If the meta changes than everyone starts form scratch and hence the story is different but then a good hanger will take 4 years to build
I really cant see a solution under the current economy. The game is not grindable.
IMO the best strategy for a non whale is to play in a league where they enjoy playing. Play with equivalent gear, play with stronger gear, play with weaker gear. What ever tickles the fancy of the pilot. There is very little competition left in this game and its mainly about entertainment. So what ever entertains....

Dashes, inq, spectres, hellburners are everywhere. the team with more of those wins. Unfortunately since you cant simply tank past Bronze 1 the time of griffins and leos dominating the battlefield are over even down there. Not worth starting from L1 anymore. My DB griffin gets jumped und humped by a spectre which was very rare before and only seen in the hands of the occasional whale or a clubber. But that was OK because it didn’t happen often. Anyhow, I think the main message is do what ever makes you happy. This is a bizarre time. I don’t think it will last. A change has to be on its way.

I'm currently in Silver with a smurf account and I'm putting together a similar table to the Champion/Legend hangar stats I did in the past. So far, component gear are overwhelmingly absent from most of the pilots I've checked.
However, I do encounter Spectres and Kumihos in my matches and they feel more numerous than that what the stats suggest. Maybe it's just perceived this way because of their advantages over silver bots? I mean, taking down a Haechi with level 6 legacy gear requires some extra effort.

I have been playing for years and now it’s all about the money. I use to have fun playing the game every day. Now it’s more like a couple of times a week. Every update we have new bots and weapons before we waited forever to get one new bot or weapon. I would start over if the we had the same robots and weapons as when this game first started. Economy is a killer I couldn’t imagine being a new player with the upgrade times. People are still going to play no matter what happens so what can we do about it?
