I have recently started a few new accounts to test out weather or not you can compete as a genuine free to play member.
LOL, not a chance! ( Upon further investigation, using an all AG hangar on the test server confirms this. You may not mech out immediately, but good luck landing above the bottom 3 or 4.)
So far I have made it to Silver II. But, as early as Private I, I was seeing component builds, WP builds, and plenty of AU builds. Most new f2p players who haven't yet become acquainted with the nuances of the game are getting utterly destroyed. What it's come down to is who has the most stronk robotz for the win. Skill is superceded by wallet size or outright luck of the draw.
I have been paying close attention to pilot's hangars on both sides: win, lose, or draw. And from what I can tell, tankers are only a small part of the problem in the lower leagues. It can mostly be attributed directly to the greed of the developers.
As we all know, the meta is forever changing, and as more immensly powerful and outrageous bots and weapons are introduced the older meta falls by the wayside. Which means they have been having fire sales on things like a lvl 5 Fujin equiped with lvl 5 Tarans for 20.00 USD, ( So many Fujins now!) or get a set of Zues for that Fury you just bought on sale for only 10 more dollars!
Add to this all of those once great bots and weapons bought with AU and WP are now winnable by raffle. (Which still outclass what you are able start off with.)
Granted there are occassions where I can outpilot these credit card warriors in one of the 118 Gepards I was lucky enogh to win, but by and large it's usually a cluster f*** k.
I have never in my days of gaming since the Atari 2600 experienced such an unbalanced sh*t show!
It is at it's core one of the most entertaining games ( on mobile) I have played in recent years, but is totally destroyed be the blatant greed and disregard for the free players.
I am utterly convinced that any reports/complaints/ suggestions made by anyone other than pay to play members serves as comic relief for the executives. . .
Theyhaveno intention of ever changing this dynamic, and if the game tanks they will have several other cash cows in the making.
I can hear them now:
"Wow, these people think we actually care about their opinions. They get so upset but keep playing, and paying! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
*sigh* . . .wiping tears of his cheek as he jumps into his new Ferrari.
