tl;dr like many other pilots, I struggle to find enjoyment in the game & its current structure. But instead of quitting, I'm going back to its roots, results be damned.
As a faithful & sometimes foolish devotee of this game, I've spent lots of time & a decent sum of RM on War Robots to build what I thought were/may be competitive hangars. I had:
Brawlers
Orkan Spectre
Orkan Haechi
Ember Taran Inquisitor
S-train Bulgasari
Tarancilot
Mid-range
Zeus Scourge Lance
Dragoon (1) Zeus (2) Fury
Spydra Griff
RDB Griff
Redeemer Taran Inquisitor
My Brawler hangar was L12, 75% Mk2 L12. My Mid-range hangar was a mix of L11/12. I've been rolling mostly in Champs League (with a few dalliances in Masters) for what feels like forever.
While the Brawlers were competitive in Champs League, my Mid-rangers were barely so, but mostly outgunned. As of April, I was feeling the grind of the arms race: he who has the most Mk2 component bots & weapons wins (skill be damned). And not just one hangar, but two or often three full hangars of Mk2 equipment. The painfully long upgrade times meant that waiting for a single Scourge or bot to level up had me in what felt like eternal Purgatory.
I had a week off for vacation in the mountains around May 1, and was otherwise occupied enough that I only checked in to collect supply drops. I hoped that when I was back in the real world, I'd feel refreshed & reinvigorated. Unfortunately....nope. Still sick of the arms race and the fun factor lacking; sick of the 「dookie」ty map rotation (ENOUGH CARRIER ALREADY FFS!) and constantly being dropped in KotH.
So today, on the verge of throwing in the towel & deleting the game, I decided to go totally Old School: no component bots or weapons of any sort, tho I have allowed myself to run whatever Mk2 OG weapons I have.
My current & sole "active" hangar:
T-Rog
Orkan Rog
DB Griff
PDB Griff
Stuka Griff
Rogs have been my favorite bot since I started playing War Robots in late '16, and Griffs are about as old school as it gets, so I settled on an aerial assault hangar. I'm also not running any mid or long-range weapons, forcing myself to relearn effective use of brawlers on all maps.
Minus a Plasmahad, Right-Hand Smack Galahad, Thunder Carnage, or Thunder Orkan Lance, this is one of my favorite hangars. I figure that I'll play this hangar to the best of my ability, and let my ranking fall to whatever league it may. For being a "game", there was too much grind and too little enjoyment in War Robots as of late. At least now I'll have some fun driving some of my favorite bots to the best of my ability. As I stash Ag I'll level up other component stuff and look to acquire more meta bots, with the realization that at some point I'll wanna run with the big dogs again.
But for now, 「fluffernutter」 Pixonic's force-fed meta and the pay-to-win arms race, it's time to get back to basics and have some fun again.
