I know there is a sticky for Which Clan is best for you, but...
Is a clan the answer?
I have been in 2. both top 100. What I walked away with is, why bother? Between the Drama and the continuous plees to squad I was so tired of it all. Now I will admit there is something I might have missed in the importance of clans, what do you think? Yes I agree there is a social aspect, if you want to call 144 characters adequate socialization.
Why do you clan? to belong? to have that tag? because solo is scary?
Mods, you are more than welcome to redirect to existing threads. I searched but soo many posts came up with clan in them I was overwhelmed.
I am serious about this question. No answer is a wrong one. I just dont get the value of clans. later i will ask about squads....

I'm in SLNT, or Silent Night clan, and honestly, I'm having a BLAST! Now, it isn't in the top 1000 clans, but I still have FUN (plus my brother is also in the clan ) The worst thing, though, are when certain people just spam the chat with nonsense... *cough* Fanticy and Godzilla *cough* ᥣᵃᵛᵃʲᵃᵛᵃ knows who I'm talking about xD

The real question is how to find the right clan. I walked away from many for various reasons until I found the one I'm in. They're pretty casual, only require 200 cups a week, and they're smart about squadding, trying not to mix leagues as much as possible. I can have the worst, most frustrating string of random solo games and be a blink away from deleting the app, then go have a bunch of fantastic squad games with the clan and be reminded that the game can be fun and that I don't completely suck at it. Just one or two good, trustworthy squad mates can make all the difference in the world. Sure there's a bit of drama from time to time, but it's easy enough to stay out of it. And if you dont happen to feel like squadding at a particular time, they're cool with that.
But you have to find the right clan, and that's not easy with all the crappy ones out there.

Valid points. For me, if it wasn't for the clan aspect, I probably wouldn't be playing this game anymore to be honest. Finding a group of like-minded players that share what you're looking for out of the game will make your experience more enjoyable. You're able to tackle challenges or find your way through the updates of the game together. You're also able to get together to have different types of game-play, have discussions about the game or not about the game, companionship, vent to each other, provide tips, etc. I'm not saying all your problems or what you're looking for will be answered, but I do think you'll find it more enjoyable to a certain extent imo. To me, it just sounds like you haven't found the right group of people to clan with if you're truly looking for a clan at all.
- Limited by characters in game chat? You can build another level of community and/or camaraderie outside of the game through more sophisticated chat apps where you're not limited by the characters. A lot of well established clans that have built a deeper connection with it's members have some sort of infrastructure like this in place. Not willing to do that? Then I can't help you there, that's your own choice and preference.
- Hounded by continuous "plees" to squad? Well you said it yourself, you did join 2 top 100 clans. Maybe those aren't the type of clans for you. Those clans typically are geared towards squad play or maintaining high level activity. Maybe you look for a clan more geared for what your needs are and more suited for what you are looking out of the game.

To be in a 'Top Ranked Clan' you have to go meta way up the butt... You gotta Tank and Fade... Spend lots of money...Maybe get a Loader or two... Each of those are beyond my moral code, so that means I will never be in a top Ranked Clan I guess.
Nowadays I use my current clan (Eleventh Hour 70833) as a personal extension of my pilot identity. Im the only member. I dont recruit or send invites for anyone to join. One day there may be a benefit that I would need to have a clan to take advantage of so then Im ready for it.

My good colleague seanh used to type ‘antisocial loner’ in the clan section of his forum profile and it stood there for quite some time. Interestingly enough, another colleague and I invited him to join our clan and he’s been anything but that description; he’s an active clanmate and a good squad buddy of mine and he advocates regularly for our clan. Maybe you could share your thoughts Sean? How do you feel about being in a clan now? Is it something you would recommend to others who felt like you did previously?

Clan squad play is too slow for my taste. Too much delay between matches. I get more battles in going solo.

If you like playing solo, there really is no reason to join a clan. There are benefits to joining the right clan though. Having consistent squad mates that you can count on to put in a good game and who you know have your back (and vice versa) are my main reason. There are others too, though.

I love my current family of clans. Just the right amount of chatter and squad requests for me. I can't always squad but it's nice to drop in and chat occasionally. Plus we're on Discord, so there's lots of banter and chit chat going on, both about the game and other topics.
Here's a point... if you're not in a clan, it's harder to get a custom game going, and if you want to try out Hangar X, and you're solo, then all you can do is run around an empty map shooting at nothing. Or, if you pick a bot with lock on weapons, you're just running around.

We have custom now and I can do a solo run to test a bot now, which is cool but it is timed. IDK if there is another option that we dont have in that regard. I was in Aurora on Android. Had to drop android because of tankers. I can always rejoin either clan I was in as I left on good terms, but I just cant get into it. If I could squad with coms and there was some coordination then it would be useful. I just have seen squadding is solo with pals. And the rewards for squadding... NO THANKS!!! I would be in top 2 on loosing team and get really screwed on rewards because one of our squad mates got hammered so much his damage and beacons were in the dirt.

I really enjoy the social aspect, getting to know new friends, squad matches...really adds a lot to the game.
There is a small core of fanatics (like me) and others that come and go. This group is from all 4 corners, so I may catch a squad fight any time of the day or night.
Who ?

RedRaiderClans can be fun with the right group of players. I prefer squading when possible and having clanmates with which to do so is pretty awesome. But you have to get over the fact that sometimes you're going to find yourself facing clanmates on the red teams. This is just a game of combat. You have to think of it as though you were playing poker for keeps against friends and family. And you can't hold back no matter what. To do so would be to disrespect the other player. A moral code is awesome in the real world but when gaming competitively you have to use a completely different code. Not less just different. Your clanmate is just another opponent when you are on opposite sides. Have fun with it. You'll both enjoy it more if you loosen up and tear into each other. You can even learn from it. I love it. Most of the time I never even notice if there is someone I recognize on the opposing team. But when I do I try knocking on their front, side, and back doors hard and loud. lol. It's just supposed to be fun. That's all. When squading it's great fun. When soloing and opposing each other it's the same. So smile and laugh and kill that damn traitor red. lol

I've been in 2 clans, the first was basically a waste of time .While the people were cool participation was non existent so why bother? Through this forum I was invited to join Hand of Fate. This clan has many great pilots and much activities like tourneys and they offer tutorials on gameplay to those that want to improve. The clan is full of cool people that consider you family once a member. I'm very glad to be a member.

I think most important there is to find an active group around your same level and time zone ideally. if no one is ever on or the hangar / play levels are massively different so you can’t really squad there isn't much value.

Well, not sure where to start…. As DarkVagabond correctly pointed out I did have ‘anti social loner’ in my clan identity tag for a very long time (kind of impressed he noticed and remembers that). I am playing a little short of a year and was solo for the first 9 months of that. Was a reasonably established iOS Champs before I joined AuEx.
So why didn’t I join a clan? Well I had a perception similar to RedRaider 's reality. I was enjoying the game and progressing fine as I was, didn’t feel the need.
And why did that change? Well it’s mostly down to 6/6 and this forum. Through both I actually go to know DV and the clan leader bigdopep. Both are really great guys and both very good players. When they asked me to join it wasn’t a random ‘join clan now’ (which incidentally I got that exact message one day from a clan leader of a top clan). It was an invite from guys I had come to know and trust.
What’s it like? Well it has been a blast. Squading with a great bunch of guys from across Europe and North America. It’s just about full, reasonably active and has a massive discord community, so I can find squads no problem at the peak times. Always folk on discord really to give advice or just shoot the poo. But no pressure to squad, I play a good bit in off peak times so still play solo quite a bit anyway. No minimum activity, no pressure, just a great bunch of guys who play regular and to get better. No tanking, no cheating, non of that nonsense.
We also just finished our first 6/6 torment as a clan squad. Think we quitted ourselves reasonably well. Gave lots of the guys from high expert through Champs to play together on a even keel, lots of practice sessions on comms, talking tactics and general nonsense. Really is cool to be playing with guys who all know there business, support each other and really do put the team first. It has certainly added an extra dynamic to the game for me.
Would I tell others to join a clan? Well not just any clan, the right clan. That might be a different answer for different people but there if keep looking around you will find the gang for you.
Also feel the need to give a shout out to our most memorable recruit. This dude joined the clan for all of 10 seconds, just long enough to wright ‘Firetruck you’ in the clan chat and leave. If you are out there where ever you are, respect earned. I would like to think we could have proved whatever preconception you had of us wrong, but we are going ahead and building a shrine to the ‘firetruck you’ guy.
