I started playing March last year (2017), I believe that was the time the Matchmaking has been introduced to the game.
Based from what I gathered, I feel that the golden era of this game was the Walking War Robots era.

Golden era is right now, because it has made Pixonic the most money.

The release of the Dash Bots then? From Dash release to Hover release? Their revenue is half that from 9 months ago. I've been watching that site every few days since last 9 months. I can go back and link the posts I've made on this forum post from that site... we've watched the revenue decline from 90k to 80k to 65k to 50k now to 45k. Financially successful? I mean they make money, but definitely on a steep decline. If we had stocks in Pixonic, we'd be selling as fast as we could, regardless of where the game is in relation to others. And I think there is a direct correlation;between the quality of the gameplay and the financial decline. Down to 37k as of today. It was 45k a week and a half ago... The freefall continues... thinkgaming.com/app-sales-data/9124/walking-war-robots/

I started playing March last year (2017), I believe that was the time the Matchmaking has been introduced to the game. Based from what I gathered, I feel that the golden era of this game was the Walking War Robots era. I started around January/February last year, and I had no idea about leagues or ranks, and I just remember things changing very fast. I remember saving up Au for this amazing bot called a Gepard, and then being completely disappointed and disgusted because it was junk by the time I got it. I think I was so disgusted by that experience that I deleted the game and started over from scratch. Once I started figuring out how things worked and got a ton of valuable information from right here in this forum, I got hooked. I was out of work at the time and was spending way too much time playing it. No money, though, because no paycheck coming in, so everything was obtained the hard way. There was also an event shortly after I started where I got a whole bunch of stuff that was pretty cool for a relative noob. I had my share of ups and downs, wasted a lot of time and silver upgrading stuff I never use any more, but it was all part of the learning. That's when it was good, even though I felt like I was constantly behind the curve. Yeah, the game still had its issues, especially with MM having major growing pains. But I really think that time is when the seeds were planted for the 「dookie」 show the game has turned into now. Everything they did around that time was laying the foundation for monetization first, and game play be damned. Just a few months after that they went totally off the deep end.

Just before dash for me, though the ancile shield should have gotten a 35% nerf. Ancillot was OP It was however in retrospect you can atleast hit them because the rock to thier scissors was that they were painfully slow. Which also meant before BR, they took forever to make it to centre. During which time you could whittle them down.

For me, the best time to play was right before Brit bots were introduced (when light bots and weapons were king) up until the introduction of leagues. I don't know why everyone complained so much about those days. Yes, back then mag geps were an op set-up, but at least it was affordable for rm, and easily attainable through grinding. If you wanted to "seal club" you had to do it with geps lvl 2 and weapons at 6,6,5 to stay in what was "bronze tier". Also if you stayed low lvl like that you didn't get yamantu, it wasn't available till "silver tier" (mag geps at 4/12).
It's funny how now everyone complains about tankers. One of the reasons the league system was created was to stop the mag gep terror, but instead it created tankers. But if the cheapest gold bot and wsp weapon in the game is the meta, where's the money in that?
I really miss Walking War Robots...

Im always hoping that better days are always ahead of "now" but so far, I think the War Robots Updates that were part of the 2. Whatever's were a good time.
Everything seemed to change, as War Robots promised, with 3.0

Around time between when the workshop was released and the release of the wild west bots. Correct me if the wild west bots were released after leagues. Then, it's from workshop to leagues.

Before the new MM (leagues), regardless of the Gepard "problem" (I laugh when I think about that now). War Robots was super fun and beautifully free to play

Up until the retirement of hangar based matchmaking. That's right. The game was pure addictive fun with the hanger power based matchmaking. Just awesome. It was so fun you just did not want to stop playing. No tanking, no fading, no public player profiles, no ridiculously OP bots, no mindless coward weapons (cowardtrains), reasonable prices for premium content, premium content that was only a little bit better than everything else, grinding for equipment was much easier, being able to play at different levels at will... etc.The switch to the league system signaled the end of the golden era in this game. If you did not experience the golden era, you will never be able to understand just how great this game was or just how far it has fallen. Is it still somewhat fun?.....yes it is. However, it' not even close to what it once was.

IMO War Robots is still in its dark ages. The bronze, iron, golden, diamond, platinum, etc age is yet to come. for the mean time its War Robots's dawn of the chicken age! chickens are dashing literally here, there and everywhere!

Shields have never blocked splash and yeah, backpedaling worked then. Gary's were formidable and The Plasmahad was a beast.

I started to play War Robots around Christmas, 2016, and my favorite period of time is when proximal explosion was accidentally removed by the new patch. At that time, you could sidestep to avoid rockets completely, which made many light bots actually viable under the predominant RDB environment. Sadly they claimed it was a glitch and reversed it in next patch, made RDB dominate the battlefield again... edited: thanks mobiuswr for the 200th karma

I have to say my golden age started with supply drops for Kumiho. Kumiho to some degree bridged gap between paid and free content. For the lack of better term it brought... more democracy to land of War Robots. Don't get me wrong, there are still significant issues and maybe it won't end well. And I'm not playing in android/iOS champion league where even Kumi is not enough. But if the rumors are true that next supply drops will be for Inquisitor I'd say we are going in the right direction.
