Grind for the 4th slot. It should take no more than 7-10 days . After that, aim for the 5th slot, which could take around a couple of months, assuming you don't intend to spend cash.
Try not to mix weapon ranges.
Leo, golem, natasha are all fine bots.
Golem is an absolute bargain as it is almost the cheapest bot to max out. It has a single hardpoint for each type of weapon and this is relevant if you have a single weapon of any type. Effective builds are Thunder/punisher/punisherT, Thunder/orkan/pinata, Thunder/taran/magnum.
The orkan setup is particularly good IMO, as it acts like an incubator for your orkan until you get the second for a Death Button Griffin (orkan/pinata). Golem has good speed and after the recent health buff, its almost as good as a lv10 Leo, at lv12.
Leo should remain a mainstay up into the higher leagues. The high healthpool means you need to put constant fire weapons, as it is made to face sustained fire. Magnum Leo is my current staple. Punisher leo is also an effective build. Thunder pinata is also a fine build for the lower leagues, however, remember that after the initial burst, it will pee single rockets and the reason why I ditched it.
Punishers are effective at stripping away energy shields, which you're going to face as you progress.
A single zeus works well with gekkos on a leo. However, since you don't have them, you could use molots instead.
Double thunders work well on a Natasha, with magnums, punishers, or even pinatas. I'd ditch the artillery altogether in favour of better builds. Artillery doesn't do much other than piss of reds, and even your teammates, and isn't worth a slot even in a slot hangar.
For long range, use Nashorns instead of Kangdaes, as they have a shorter reload, and don't level them above lv6. A couple of molots can fill the light slots. However, IMO, you could swap out the Natasha for the patton right now as you already have 4 pinatas. If that doesn't work well for you, hook it up with punishers. They are cheap to buy and upgrade. It will give you a better understanding of these weapons.
Once you get the 4th slot open, try out builds on patton until you get a Griffin. I run a punisher patton and it's only a little less effective than a punisher griffin. Pinata patton is also a good damage dealer, and so is a pin setup. Always pay attention to weapon ranges in the map, as it's important to ensure survivability and dealing higher damage.

It will give you a better understanding of these weapons. A lower health pool isn't a big issue in the lower leagues, as I have seen it be effective even in high silver.
A cossack with punisherT or tulumbas is a good beacon capper, and is important in learning the beacon capping skills. It remains effective even until the low gold league. That could also occupy the 4 slot, so take your time to understand and evolve your play style.
Once you have griffins, tulumbas/pin, punisherT/punisher, taran/magnum, orkan/pinata are excellent setups.
A close-mid range hangar will help you in understanding ranger, using cover, corner shooting, and develop overall situational awareness.
Upgrade your hangar evenly. Weapons precede bots, remember. Upgrade to a 6/6 hangar first, then move on to 8/8 (ie, from a base 6/6, level weapons to lv8 then the bots).
Don't waste gold on rushing through upgrades, and make sure to get a pair or orkans after the slot 5.
Don't spend workshop points on bots until you have 4 magnum and 2 tarans.
This current event should help you with your grind. Make sure to get the 12 hour premium in the roulette, which drops within the first 3 spins. Do not waste precious gold on components yet.

Edit: steer away from hydras. They might seem fun to use, but don't do much good, other than annoy everyone on the field. A single hydra is as good as useless.
