Dropping Leagues is called tanking. You might want to read the rules of the forum. Or someone like Golden Sabre or Dredd77 might come along and explain them to you.

I love the smell of trolls in the morning (in the off chance it's not, have a search on the forum for "tanking", you'll learn how to do it and the general feeling of the other players about it...)

Play the game, earn silver and gold, upgrade your weapons and bots

Hi kristine82 , welcome to the forum. It is rather sad that a Silver league player has to face level 12 players. And yes, the system is flawed. But, don't be disheartened and don't drop leagues intentionally ( we call that Tanking around here). The level 12 player you faced is a Tanker, who drops leagues intentionally to beat unsuspecting lower level players with their superior hanger. If you see those kind of people, you can always report them to Pixonic. Just take a screenshot of their hanger with weapons dropped to show levels and send it to Pixonix support (you can find their Customer support mail id in the games' Help section). To be fair, the system will give unfair matches 50% of the time. But, the other 50% of the time, you get good matches, challenging matches that make you enjoy the game. And, keep in mind that these unfair matches are not the norm and will improve after a while. Don't forget, it's just a game. If you don't enjoy it, don't play it. I hope this helps. Happy hunting.

Hiya kristine82 . Clubbers I'm afraid. They've done what your asking to do with the specific intention of outgunning the bots they face. Its unfair and unethical. In my experience though there are not too many of them, especially if you play solo (and MatchMaker in squad battles doesn't work anyway, you'll be smashed one battle and walk over the opposition in the next).
What you need to be aware of here is something called the "Leaver's Queue". I've never been in it and never seen any proof it actually exists or if its just a rumor promoted by Pix to discourage people from leaving games because that spoils it for your 5 teammates. (Just think, you put aside some some time to play, one of you tasks is to win battles and 1 of your teammates ditches cos he doesn't like that map, or he wants the team to lose and himself to be on the bottom of the battle table so that het gets -22 on his league ranking and his fights get easier - you'll probably lose that battle because of him. Selfish right?)
Anyway, the word is that if you leave too many games you go into the leavers queue where you get matched with random other leavers regardless of ranking. You need to endure that, completing all your matches properly for x number of battles until you are placed back in normal queue. Again, that's the word, but try find anything concrete about...
My advice is to be the player you would want to play against. I've been playing a year now so I have a lot of high level (9 to 11) Weapons and bots. If I run my strongest hangar I quickly climb the league ranking so my staple hangar is relatively light; if my team wins I am lower on the damage table and don't rise too much, if we lose I drop quite a lot. But in the battles I try to do my best for the team, remembering that their are 5 other guys playing with me who have worked hard to build bots that will win them games and they need me to do my bit.
Let me add a caveat here and not seem to righteous; in the Expert league and up there is a flood of new weapons and bots that are not available to all. They are available for cash. I totally object to this. When I see more than two or three examples of this stuff in a match - red or blue - I change to my last robot and mech-out asap.
