So I'm trying to do some number crunching to compare damage outputs of different weapons. When looking at the wiki, I see "Burst DPS", "Cycle Damage" and "Cycle DPS." Obviously DPS = Damage Per Second
How do you interpret the data correctly?
For example, I'm trying to do some comparisons of Pinatas vs Orkans. Looking at the burst DPS, if the data is correct, three Pinatas on a Leo output 33087 burst DPS vs 28226 from two Orkans on a Rogatka or Orkan Lance. From that standpoint, you could say a Leo is "better" from a damage-dealing standpoint.
If you compare the Pinatas vs Orkan for cycle damage, the Orkan wins (I imagine due to the larger magazine). And the cycle DPS is pretty much a wash (adv: Orkan).
So, number crunching people, can you help me wrap my brain around all this? Seeing "Orkans are better" is useless. I'd like to know the why to be a more intelligent player.
Thanks for any and all help.

I believe
Burst damage = damage per "bullet" * "bullets" per second (Pinata L1 760 * 8,3) Cycle damage = damage per "bullet" * capacity (Pinata L1 760 * 17) - ie. the damage you do with a full "clip" Cycle DPS = cycle damage / (time to empty clip + time to reload) - ie. the damage you do per second in a full cycle of shot + reload
No clue how exactly they define the cycle for a weapon that is reloading while firing.

Hey Poopface I agree with what @ma’ElKoth has said. I will attempt to explain the first two points in another way, as they are the ones that pertain directly to your question: Burst DPS - this figure is how much damage your particular weapon will do in one second assuming it is fully reloaded Cycle damage - this figure is how much damage your particular weapon will do before it exhausts its ammo supply and must rely on reloading In terms of DPS, 3 pinatas will do damage faster than 2 Orkans simply because there are three Pinatas firing at the same time as opposed to only 2 Orkans (these weapons both have the same firing rate of 8.3 rounds per second). The key point is that cycle damage is one of the most important stats here. The Pinatas have exhausted their ammo in about 2 seconds, whereas the Orkans continue firing for a full 4 seconds. Think of an Orkan as a Pinata that has double the ammo capacity (although Orkan rounds are also more powerful than Pinata rounds). That means that while 3 lvl 11 Pinatas will indeed do 67,830 points of damage before you have to retreat to reload, 2 Orkans will do a whopping 110,080 points of damage before you have to retreat back to cover. It’s just that you’ll just have to expose yourself for a little longer to deal the extra damage with Orkans. The damage from Alpha strikes (cycle damage from all weapons until exhausted) has always been one of the key things that influences the meta. It’s the main reason RDBs became more popular than Trident Furys. The Tulumbus buff meant that the initial RDB Alpha Strike dealt more damage than the initial Alpha Strike of three Tridents. Even though three Tridents do more DPM, players found the combination of having a bigger Alpha Strike and the ambush capabilities of the jumping Griffin made it more practical than the Fury. How does this relate to your question? Because in this game the window of opportunity is one of the most important factors. So naturally two Orkans can usually take better advantage of this window than 3 Pinatas, even if they take a little longer to deal the extra damage they put out.

Dps, cycle dps, and cycle damage aren't as meaningful in war robots as they are in other games. Typically, you'll need two different metrics to understand what the weapon behavior will be like. The pinata is a perfect example of this foolishness. The high dps is misleading until you tie it together with either the cycle dps or cycle damage. By dividing the dps by either of these two metrics you will see that there is a long reload. It is mind boggling for the non-math inclined who can't visualize this stuff.

Burst DPS are quite irrelevant without considering the duration of the burst. Aphids have the highest burst DPS around, but as their burst is just 1 second, the damage is still not that high. It is however relevant for weapons that can do damage over a longer time, like Punishers. For weapons like Pinatas it's better to look at the cycle damage and the burst duration, they do 23k damage in 2s and are therefore inferior to Orkans with 60 in 3.2 seconds.
