"Its a toolbox. You get the right tools for the job."
You bring the right weapon into a situation that allows you to create and exploit a sustainable advantage over your opponent to either take his or keep your ground. That toolbox includes timing, agility, stealth, longevity, tactics, teamwork and the weapons you've chosen. The more of these factors you control, the bigger your advantage.

I run 7 orkans. If I could afford more, I would run 15. Nothing melts reds like orkans. Once you learn how to use cover and be patient for the right target, you see your scores catapult.

Have too many favorites... can't choose just one. Maybe that means that I don't have a favorite at all. Orkans are deffo at the top of the heap, but I can't say I would enjoy a hangar full of them. I like Tulus and Tarans and Punishers and Molots a whole lot, too, depending on the build and the mood I am in.

In my opinion, there isn't one medium weapon that I would always choose over everything else. every medium weapon has a role.
Hydra - cover-ignoring harassment, can do decent damage if mounting multiple hydras (apparently - I never get much luck with it). Good for hitting lighter and faster bots.
Molot - long range suppressive fire, good for stripping anciles from a safe distance and for wearing down the health of larger bots.
Punisher - mid/short range suppressive fire, good for stripping anciles and melting physical shields.
Taran - close quarters, best against ancile-shielded bots and more mobile bots (in comparison to rockets).
Orkan - shock and awe, high damage in a short amount of time, anti-physical-shields, good for clearing multiple enemies off of beacons.
Scourge - ?? Long range anti-ancile-bot weapon, good against more mobile bots. (Haven't used this, so apologies if I get it wrong).
Each weapon is good in its own area. Personally, I tend to use mainly Orkans and Tarans as I lean towards knife-fighting most of the time. Molots and Hydras don't see so much use for the same reason. Twin Punishers get occasional use on knifers, but I prefer shorter skirmishes rather than protracted slugging matches, so they lose to Orkans/Tarans in most cases. Most common use is a Thunder/Punisher Golem. (Note: single punishers see more use, usually on Leo's or Natashas.) I cannot pick between Orkan and Taran though. Usually I'll run both, so that I have the flexibility rather than identically-equipped bots in all 4 slots.

As others have said, each one plays their own role. If you're talking straight DPS, then Orkan.
What do I enjoy using? Puns & Molos.

I can't field a hanger without tulus. They're great for supporting team mates. Mid range sniping through keyholes. They also let you reach out from beyond range of most commonly used weapons. Also great for scratching those hard to reach areas.

1. Orkin 2. Tulumbas 3. Punisher (with recent update, this is now closely tied with #2)

I had to vote Orkans. Short-range, but on a Haechi or paired with Pinatas on a DB Griff, it's instant death for most oppo bots. That's 60% of my starting lineup right there. Tarans go on my Ancilot.
I really want to run Punishers, but even at L11, they just don't deal enough damage. I tried a bullet hose Griff (all L11 guns) and Pun Mk2 on my Ancilot, but the damage output is not what I'd hoped for, and the reload time feels excruciatingly long in the midst of a firefight.

Can't go wrong with Orkans. You can have a whole hangar of DB Griffs and not have a problem. A hangar of Plasma Griffs or Russian Griffs would be a problem.
