Hi, Still learning the game. I spawn light fast bots first to capture beacons fast. I get fired on from behind from team mates. What are they trying to tell me? Not to capture beacons close by? Thanks, raylam

They are just being annoying and firing weapons are for trolling sometimes

Four reasons why you get friendly fire at the start: 1. As stated above, just being annoying 2. Accidental discharge - I know when I go to turn my bot at the start, I'll inadvertently hit the fire button sometimes 3. Some connect control devices and I understand that on android that it can trigger Weps 4. Sometimes I'll fire at a friend that has randomly dropped into the squad - just saying howdy to let them know I'm there
I know in higher tiers players could use wep discharge as communication for beacon capture but it seems to be highly ineffective.
Cheers!

^^on that note, one tap on the shoulder means "hey!", and one tap in a direction means "go here." Continuous fire means "HOE HOL' UP YOU ABOUT TO GET CREAMED, GET AWAY", and some people might use two taps for "no."

I used to do this too, once i saw a DB rhino and tap a thunder on his back like saying "get em brah" but i guess hes just sensitive, he unloaded everything on me and left battle. Huh

My Daughter was rockin her Raijin on Springfield and some hissyfit throwin tantrum chucking woe is me chip on his shoulder blue Boa pilot just stood and continuously wasted time and ammo Thundering her point blank for most of the match.
Ok, we got the point, he had something against Raijins.
"Daddy, why is that one on my team shooting me? Doesn't he know he has to shoot the red ones?"
"Probably not Sweetie, probably not..."
"He's silly...."
What else was I supposed to say?
"Nah Sweetie he's a spoilt brat troll trying to prove a point"?
On Topic however, if it's not an accidental fire, and assuming they're not trolling, they may be trying to tell you something. If you turn to face them they might 'point' you towards a specific beacon by shooting.
If you're in a fast bot and most if not the rest are in slower bots it can be considered courteous to run for a farther beacon for an early advantage leaving close beacons for your slower teammates.
Unfortunately there is no set 'lingo' to go by which leaves.... nearly everything open to interpretation.

Thanks for all the input. Will take them into consideration next time. I did have one time where I was being a sniper...guy shot at me. Stood in front of me and twisted side to side...I was guess they were saying no to sniper....but all I had were long range weapons on that Bot.

Well, keep in mind that a sniper is frequently the last thing most of us want to see (aside from artillery- yuck!) and that long range bots should still move to provide good enfilading fire in any case. I'd reconfigure your long rang bot to be midranged in any case. CRV PINs and Tulumbas are going to throw more pain red-ward than cannons will and you need to make sure you're able to support the knife fighters on your team for best results.

Yes, I am changing up my setups to see what works best for me. Stalker w/ Mags, Two Csk w/Taran and a Patton w/At Spirals was what I tried last. Trying to find a balance as teams change constantly for solo players.

Thanks, raylam They want to take the beacon so that they can get the gold bonus at the end of the game, my suggestion is ignore them .

Trying to find a balance as teams change constantly for solo players. Well, remember that in relative order of "things where redundancy is great" to "things where redundancy will cost you the game" the order goes: Knife Fighters>Beacon Runners>Midrange>Snipers Plus running a stalker will pretty much make your life higher (there's a penalty associated with having WSP bots). Try running a Schutze with a Thunder instead of the stalker and consider loading out the Patton for close range. If you absolutely want to kit the Patton for longer range I'd load with up with CRV Pins- but that mostly starts to shine once you're at bot level 4/weapon level 8. A Patton with Piñatas is a very slow, ponderous wrecking ball at lower levels.

Thank you. I will try that next. I have almost everything to switch over. Just short one CRV.

can someone explain 'Knife Fighting'? I searched for other post to keep from duplicating but came up empty.

Knife fighting is basically close range combat with weapons like Thunder, Orkans/Pinatas, Taran/Mags, and Aphids on robots like the Griffin, Lancelot, and Galahad.

to support them, I let them go first and follow with Pattons? Either draw fire or peck away at the enemy with them?

to support them, I let them go first and follow with Pattons? Either draw fire or peck away at the enemy with them? For Patton midrange you try to stay at a range and keep map placement that means the ther side's close range fighters can't make a rush for you while ensuring you're putting down fire consistently to turn the tide of battle for your close quarters teammates. There are games and maps where it turns into midrangers poking at each other or punishing the enemy for trying to cross a wide area without cover (for the later: think Shenzen), but mostly you're trying to use your range to effectively give your team an extra half or quarter bot's worth of firepower all over the map. You're midranged, so you can spend a lot of time meddling in otherwise fair fights. On Shenzen you'r hitting folks when they pass throug gaps in buildings or trying to cut through the middle/ control the center. On Canyon you're.... Very, Very Busy. On Yam you're moving up to 1/4 of the way along the side corridors to ensure you can pump tons of plunging fire into the center. That sort of thing. You will get shot at and you will die, but hopefully you can force multiply enough to make up for the fact that you weren't acting directly.

Okay. This is what I have been doing. Will play with bot configs to see what suits me. Need to move up to knife fighting to get more silver to upgrade weapons. Playing support doesn't pay the bills.

I keep running into situations where I am geared for support but my team mates are artillery and snipers....I become the knife fighter. Good practice I guess but a losing battle.

The sides are the best, but don't be afraid to leave them if they become unsafe or to find a better firing angle into center or to advance to control more of the enemy territory if your team does well.

What is a good Patton midrange setup? To reach some distance, CRV or AT Spirals? Trying to use weapons I already have.

Well, they both have the same reload time, but a CRV Pin fires 4 rockets per shot instead of three and does more damage per round. I'd avoid Spirals as a rule, no matter how much others using them annoy you.

I see a lot of posts about Spirals and Aphiads. What is it that people dislike about them? I use them for hit and run with my Patton to support the Knife Fighters. Otherwise I'm dead in the first 30 seconds up against bigger stronger players.

Otherwise I'm dead in the first 30 seconds up against bigger stronger players. Spirals are garbage at actually putting damage down. There's a brief window of time where bots are generally severely under leveled compared to weapon level (a l4/weapons 9 bot is about equivalent to a l6w8 bot of the same weight class in the matchmaking) as you make progression there, so even with with inefficiency they shine for a brief window of time, but for the most time you'll get better results with anything else at the same range band or closer. People hate on Aphids because they recently got buffed and the buff went sliiiiightly over the top, meaning they're always relevant and absolutely awesome on a pair of maps (Dead City, Power Plant). It's nothing that can't be fixed by increasing their reload speed *slightly* but it can feel oppressive. So, it's two *completely* different reasons. Spirals get bashed because they're a waste, Aphids get bashed because folks are stuck getting smashed by them but at the same time no one wants to 3k gold into something they expect to see nerfed.

Always a pleasure. I'm just trying to pass it forward- a year and a half ago (there was a long break in the middle there) Strayed and company were explaining things to the likes of me.

okay...gonna wean my Patton off of AT Spirals. Will upgrade the CRV's in the mean time. On another note...got sniped last 3 games...makes me want to keep a sniper on hand to snipe back.

I ran a pin Patton for quite a while and got great mileage with it. Recently won a Zeus and paired it with a couple of Molots on a golem. Like it a lot ?. I'm running 4/8 meds leveling up to nine and still in mid to high silver. Banded up sometimes depending on win rate.

Otherwise I'm dead in the first 30 seconds up against bigger stronger players. Aphids can chunk off a big portion of your health and kill you and you cannot shoot back if the aphid carrier is in cover. Spirals are annoying because they hit 90% of the time and those spiral patton guys who stagger their spirals make you want to quit the game
