I won a Raijin a little bit ago. I never wanted to spend the WSP on it, but it was free.
Currently using gep/aphid, Trident Fury, thunder/Taran Lancelot, Orkan/pinata Rhino. Deciding on my 5th robot. Been using a Leo with thunder/mags. Was contemplating a Zeus Raijin for something different. Any advice? Other than the raijin, bots are 6 weapons are 8.

I wouldn't use the Raijin at all. It doesn't have enough firepower for its speed and health and is easily killed. I would run the Leo Thunder/Mags instead.

I agree with Flexpoint. The Raijin's main role is as a punching bag for the other team, and there aren't any good setups for it. It has a lot of health but also massive hitbox coupled with poor speed and firepower, and all that giant health pool is really doing is giving your enemies extra damage points. The Leo is fine as your fifth bot, and there isn't any reason you should sub it out for a raijin.

Okay thanks. Stick with mags on the Leo?

Okay thanks. Stick with mags on the Leo? At your level I'd put the Aphids on the Leo with the thunder. Then I'd swap the Gepard for a plasma Galahad.

A Zeus / Trident Raijin seems the best. The smart enemies, I observed playing with the Raijin would park near center beacon and guard it, but it's free damage if you have explosives or plasma.
The Magnum Leo is OK in high silver / low gold, but a Pinata Leo works better in my experience, if you don't have aphids

Raijin Ancile is a 10/10 bot if you run with your clan, Raijin Zeus isnt bad but Carnage Zeus is still better, just sell the Raijin TBH, unless you wanna climb walls

Okay how about I throw in a Griffin in place of the Leo. Between Griffin and Rhino, which should be PDB and which should be DB?

I would buy two Griffins and run Plasma and a Death Button. Either on Leo isn't very good.

Okay how about I throw in a Griffin in place of the Leo. Between Griffin and Rhino, which should be Plasma Death Button and which should be Death Button? Between those I'd go DB Griffin, Plasma Rhino. Plasma Rhino is still strong. Aphid Leo is also strong currently (the only Leo setup that is imho, at least until the coming Aphid nerf). If you go TT Fury, Ork/ Thunder Lancelot, DB Griffin, Plasma Rhino, Aphid Thunder Leo you'll have decent balance but you'll be a little slow. Given that Aphids are getting nerfed I'd plan to swap the Leo for a plasma Galahad as a next evolution. Use the Plasma Rhino as a flanker, don't play it straight up the middle.

It's lame how they're nerfing the weapons people pay real money for. Seems like there should be refunds for that

I'm having fun with my new toy, Thunder Raijin. I was going for Zeus and just when I had enough for #1 I slipped on the upgrade button and lost 1/3 progress. So I bought Thunders which I could use anyway on Carnage (or Tridents) and this thing is FUN
At lv10 my Raijin has 218k health, and well over 250k in shielding. Absolutely nobody will get close, they crap their pants. I can sit in choke points or sit on the throne in center beacon, really anywhere there is action I'm a menace if I can get there in time (only problem SLOTH and FATTY lol)

A thunder Raijin? This is tongue and cheek, yes?

Right on is never tongue in cheek.
A thunder raijin is a horrible idea. Death Button bots and plasma bots will just hit you from 300m+ away. Thunder bots will just walk away because your bot that is already slow has an ability that makes it even slower.

Do as Petevb said, Plasma Death Button rhino, Death Button griff. You can use each bots strengths better that way imo. EDIT: then again, it doesn't change your upgrades as the hardpoints are identical between those two, so you can experiment and decide for yourself. I just think griff is better as db.

Death Button Rhino, Plasma Death Button griffin, aphid Gepard, plasma/thunder Lancelot, Trident Fury sound okay then? As I said I'd personally switch the weapons on the Griffin and Rhino. You should also be planning to replace the Gepard- the coming aphid nerf will hit it hard, and it's very fragile against Tulu and Tridents common in higher tiers. Another Griffin is a safe and cost effective choice, possibly mounting the aphids on the light hardpoints depending how the nerf goes.

For what it's worth, I found the DB Griff a bit unimpressive at 6/8, but it really does shine later on. If you start to use it now, you'll know it's "quirks" (when/where to jump and timing) by the time you hit higher tiers.

The DB Griffin has a lot of major flaws and takes a lot of practice to pilot, but once you get used to it it's all worth it. At first I often mistimed my jumps and was too aggressive with it and often got it wrecked before I could do serious damage, but now I last a lot longer in it and get a lot more mileage out of it. One of the most satisfying moments of DB piloting is dumping a full load on a charging Rhino or a Raijin that makes the mistake of camping on a beacon.

Griffins > Rhinos 24/7/365. ..Except in 6/8 and below (definitely true in gold though) i dont really understand this comment. Below 6/8 you would be extremely hard pressed to get a rhino in, let alone a rhino with an effective weapon setup.

As far as I can tell, you can get a 6/7 Rhino in at the same tier as a 6/7 Griffin (High silver, I think?). Few players use splash in this tier, making physical shield bots superior. Caveat: I play a 7/8 medium / 6/7 heavy hangar on my secondary account, and while I don't have a Rhino there, I do have two Galahads and face some Rhino's about the same level.

yeah, further evidence that there is no MM penalty in high silver. Thanks for sharing

Below 6/8 you would be extremely hard pressed to get a rhino in, let alone a rhino with an effective weapon setup. I found 5/8 works just fine as a plasma boat- although the DB setup of the same leveling was mostly effective as a spawn camper defense mechanism. At 6/8 I'm not complaining about anything but the fact that it's not a Plasmahad.
