Ok, this is my second event since I started playing. The last one I had 2000 au and spent on the chests. I got:
- 2 gekkos
- 1 apphid
- geppard
- 2 docs
- 1 jesse
Now, I have 4k au and was saving for the 5th slot.
My plan is to spend au and save 3k for the slot after the event. Does this sound like a good plan?
How offen is the events, when will be the next?

I would just get the 5th slot over with if I were you. You already have 2 docs, which are great bots, and I'm not sure what else you have, but the 5th slot is a massive advantage. Just my opinion.

I would take it easy until the event starts. Don't get burned out before the event starts!

Save up for the 5th slot and fill it with one of your Docs. That would give you a pretty powerful hanger. Either that, or consider including a build that has range so that you don't mech out as easily.

Grind hard during the event when they reward extra au and spend what you make on chests the last day

They've said that there will be event tokens this time, like most of the events before. And if I remember correctly, you cannot exchange Au for event tokens. You have to either earn them in game, or pay cash directly for tokens.
I'm not saying to not keep preparing, because that's speculation, but if they do what they've done in the past with event specific currency, your gold won't do anything. I also agree with people that if you have good bots and weapons already, you're better off getting a 5th slot with your Au. No reason having more good bots and not enough slots to use them all.

Q: leo thunder with punisher or mags? I have run both and much prefer mags. You get continuous fire and can battle Anciles. The load times on punishers are a dealbreaker for me. |

Yep, that works too. I have a leo that has a thunder, 2 mags and a piñata. You get the benefit of constant fire and yummy rocket zing. 3 pinatas can be devestating, but the load times are a killer to me! Great for hit and run, but I suck at it. |
