So what are they all about? I was around for the last one, but only playing a short time and didn't know what was going on. I assumed it was just regular game play mostly designed to make me spend money on some 'spiny game thing', so I spent all my gold, won some random stuff and just concentrated on shooting robots.
So should I be getting all excited about this summer event or is it just business as usual with some spiny game thing?

It will likely be the spinny thing, possibly accompanied by tasks again. This event will have event currency, which you can only earn during, and expires at the end of the event. This currency is what you will be using to spin the spinny thing and get free stuff (the currency is earned by playing, and is earned in addition to the gold and silver you normally earn).
So it's literally free stuff just for playing, something I'd consider being excited about.

Cool,
I could have sworn I was spending gold last time, but had only started so was probably confused.

Cool, I could have sworn I was spending gold last time, but had only started so was probably confused. You are remembering correctly. The last event was unusual because it used gold instead of event currency. It was an anniversary event, so Pix was feeling extra generous.

Cool, I could have sworn I was spending gold last time, but had only started so was probably confused. Yes, it was gold. As bugdoc correctly stated. The prior events (Halloween, Xmas/New Year, Lunar New Year) used special event currencies (pumpkins, snowflakes, old Chinese coins) that were only used during the events. Sounds like Tempest will be winnable this event by tasks, which makes me think it will also be introduced in store, possibly for the event currency at first. The only downsides I have seen associated with events are: 1) Lots of complaint threads here about the free stuff not being good enough. 2) Some players going damage only to maximize winning event currency (its based on damage) 3) Increase in tankers/droppers so they can go play with noobs and earn more event currency by exploiting that loophole. Cheers and enjoy it!

Based on the last event... yes you should be excited. I waited for other players to roll away and see the maths, but in the last event at least, spending money to roll that wheel was VERY worthwhile. The newer to the game and less stuff you had, the more worthwhile it became! I cleaned up last event! Got HEAPS of new bots and weapons and it made the game a blast!
I've got $11k gold saved just to blow on the next event... Once I've confirmed on here the maths looks ok!

Still levelling that up. And it would take a while.. One note though - event chests worth it's money (if you are going to BUY event coins for Gold or RealMoney) ONLY if your hangar is pretty basic. As mine was. I had NOT A SINGLE gold item in the store, and only 2 Magnums for WP items. So I am happy I got so much stuff (except for 4xGepards, obviously). But if you already got +\- all that you need, I would suggest not spending real money\gold on the chests.

It's like gambling. In the last event, I spinned from my hard earned 32k Au to 50k and then lost everything! Of course, i get so many of every robots and weapons that are possible to get! I want my gold back...

seanh The last event was unusually beneficial in terms of prizes. I won all the WW boys, a Lance, 3 Anciles, several Orkans and Aphids, and 3 Rogatkas. If that's not worth getting excited about, I don't know what is. I doubt this event will be as fortuitous, as it's not the 3 yr anniversary, but this depends on how much profit Pix made from the last one and if they're looking to repeat that success. Even in the Lunar event I won 4000Au from the superchest, which I then used to open my 5th slot (as per recommendation of this forum). Admittedly this does require some good luck though. In the Christmas event I won next to nothing. There are always 3 separate wheels that cost 10, 100 or 1000 tokens to spin respectively. The best prizes are always available on the 1000 wheel. If you wait a few days, someone usually posts a list of all possible rewards on each wheel. Choose for yourself which one has the prizes on it that u want to win. Lastly, all your spins gradually fill up an energy bar which, if completed, allows you to open a 'super chest'. These always contain all the best prizes in the game and are worth it if you can manage to get one. If it's like last time, the energy bar will fill up quickly at first, but then it will fill up slower as you get closer to the superchest. Pix does this to make you more desperate to earn more tokens. The tokens are always purchasable with real money also, but you should wait to see the possible prize pool before spending any real money. The prizes were so good last time, I actually spent real money for the first time, comparable to what I would've paid for a console game. I knew by then that War Robots was a game I was going to continue playing and I thought dropping some money would help them continue long term. And remember, if it's like all the other times, only spin the 1000 wheel. It takes some discipline to wait for it, but the rewards are just so much better than the other two wheels.

I just took the gold on the last event & didn't bother with the chests... just spent it on what I really wanted ... some people got lucky and gambled on the 1000Au chests and did very well ...

It is funny though how relentless I was in NOT paying in previous game, where everything screams: "Buy! See the ads! Spend money!". and here, when the game is totally free to play, I wanted to spend money in a three months time.

So, I think that the basics of the last event were covered pretty thoroughly, so I am just going to tell you about my experiences.
I usually don't pay for games if I don't have to, but I really like War Robots, so I splurged a little. I had some gold saved and ended up buying an additional $55 in gold. I won robots and weapons that would cost $260 (based on $1.00 buying 130 gold). I did get some duplicate stuff, but I also got a Butch and a Jeese that totaled 17,250 GP. Overall, there were some things I missed out on... no Ancile! But I was pretty happy.
I also won a Carnage and a Rhino on 100 gold spins, which was cool.
The other free stuff from the challenges was just a bonus, but I didn't make it through all of them. It was just too much of a time commitment.
So.... hoping the next event is just as cool, but Pix really pulled out all the stops on the anniversary event.

I thought so too, but after a dozen or so dissatisfying pulls ive come to the conclusion that if you want consistent, satisfying pulls, 100c boxes are the only way to fly. If you are planning on selling things - then yes, I agree. Otherwise you will end up with a bunch of Fujins\Raijins\KangDae\Tulumbas which usually not worth it's buyback price in Silver. (Sorry, I did it again with too complex phrase :( ) Basically I mean that: 2000 Au get you 5,000,000 Silver or 20 chests, in which you can get Tulumbas (buyback price 87K) or KangDae (buyback price 116K) or some such stuff. So basically you would be better off buying Silver right away.... However! the fun and anticipation factor cannot be accounted for. And I give you that in 100 chest your Anticipation\Fun\Result\Price combo is unbeatable, yes. But if you got nothing gold in your hangar - you are better off with 1000 chests.

I didn't, but, I have a lot of stuff for future bots, not to mention the silver. Got over 200m. All gone now, but that's for another advice thread

Look at it this way, same amount of gold, 10x the number of pulls, no such thing as a ?poo-poo? pull like the 10 coin boxes. True that. But you shared your secret about spending money, I'll share my dirty secret (don't tell anyone!) I was winning, big time, and when I got Gary, 2xZeus and 9200 of gold lying in my account, I decided to give it two more spins at 100 Au chest, to make my Au count at 9000 flat. So I made one swing, and then misclicked on "Open 90x100 chests"... :-D got TONS of 「dookie」ty stuff or stuff I don't need that I sold then (punishers\zenit\tulumbas), I believe 4 Gekkos and 3 Gepards (plus 3 Gekkos and 1 Gepard from 1000 chest) I actually force-closed the up once I saw what I clicked, in vain hope that spins are made on my phone, and are not instant (I was hoping it would open 10~20 chests, and I will be able to save Gold)...but no luck. So I made, I believe, 50 millions Silver in buyback and crates, and started grinding again. So basically one moment during the Event I was at zero gold. I was lucky it was in the middle of the event, and with my zealot grind for Rog I was able to replenish my gold somewhat, spin more 1000 chests and left The Event in the black. That was single moment when I thought about actually deleting the app; never been SO FRUSTRATED at the video game in my life.

The biggest tip for events is to WAIT. Forum members with a lot more gold and experience than you will roll some wheels and post the results so you can decide for yourself.
Based on the last event the only chest worth rolling will be the 1000 one. What you REALLY want is superchests
Don't discount it because it's gambling. On the last event I got: 2 Furies, A lance, A Galahad, 2 Stalkers, A Rogatka, 2 zues, a trident, an orkan, some Tarans, a pair of Aphids a Treb, a trident... and that's just the good stuff. Also got a boatload of other stuff like Gepards e.t.c As I was a pretty new player at the time I had NONE of that stuff so it was massively worthwhile for me!
This time around I have $11k saved so far and my plan is to pay it forward to the forum by rolling the lot and posting my results!

I try to avoid bashing pix, and I reject all the conspiracy theories. That said, if I were wearing a tinfoil hat, I might think that the sales and events giving away the games best bots to everyone might continue, since the approaching new bots and weapons may make much of that obsolete, so why not give it out for cash before it becomes less useful. Woah... My head hurts. Is that what it's like to take the red pill?
