Strayed Yep, it's call 'En Passant', French for 'In Passing'. Back in the early 1400's (could be earlier or later, I'm not sure), in order to speed up the game the moves of the queens and pawns were changed and castling was introduced. Pawns were given the opportunity to move two squares on their first turn but, as it wasn't fair that they could squeeze past an opposing pawn on the fifth rank that way, they also got a 1 turn opportunity to capture any pawn going by 'in passing'. If you hadn't taken it this turn you would have lost the chance. Queens originally could only move 1 square diagonally (and were known as the Adviser), making them half as powerful as a King. They got supercharged along with their name change. An early nod to women being the true power behind the throne? I think your knight might wiggle away now, I was hoping to snag it before it could. OTOH your bishop has been keeping my bishop and pawn and rook locked up and I've finally freed them up to join the fight!
