So here's where I'm at. I already scrapped the game and restarted once after dumping (wasting) all kinds of silver and gold trying different bots. Best luck I had was with a Leo with Punishers and Thunder. So I restarted, pushing my little Destrier as far as I could until I could grab a Leo. After sinking millions in silver, he's now a 7 with a Thunder 6, two Punisher 7's, and a Magnum 3 (just obtained the Magnum). Up until a few days ago this was fairly potent (against other bots at the SAME LEVEL, that is), but now it's merely making a dent in most other bots. I'll sit there and unload clip after clip and watch their meters barely move, unless I have some help, while I get Hulksmashed in pretty short order. Now Leo is about the most durable bot in the game, but sometimes it's like I'm going out there with a level 1 Cossack.
Anyway, the question is -- after all I've sunk into upgrading the Punishers, do I keep upgrading them, or toss them for something else, and if so, what, that's not going to take me months to catch up with?

Dont upgrade Punishers past level 5. It's simply not worth it as you're not going to use them again as you progress through the leagues. I'd recommend you use either a Thunder Magnum Leo or a Thunder Pinata Leo. Especially the Thunder Pinata Leo. The Pinata buff makes it a respectable enemy and less of a harmless punching bag.

Thanks, I'll give the pinatas a try. Edit: Wow, had no idea what a punch the Pinata packs. Definitely a worthwhile add.

I use the Thunder/Pinata and also have a Zeus/Magnum. All work nicely.

I am in high silver. Especially with the rocket upgrade, I find that using pinatas and magnums gets you a little too up close and personal using a Leo. No shield and it takes too long to get to cover. I have thunpun and thunpin loadouts on the two Leos I am currently running.
Staying at 350-500 meters keeps you out of a lot of the short range nastiness, but leaves you close enough to dive in if you want to, without it taking too long.

Fair point but, in there might be another update that makes punishers and molots a bit more powerful and effective against armour. They might be worth another look. Also Pinata is powerful but it has limited range. Do you think that maybe pin could do damage from a distance and then move in for the kill with the thunder?

It's simply a matter of preference. Punishers are still useful (as all weapons are), even in higher leagues. If you like them, upgrade them, and use them. I use them in Diamond quite often, and constantly amazed how well they perform. No, you cannot take on a hard shield head on, but that's not their purpose.

It depends on the role you need in your hangar: Thunder punisher leo is a versatile bot, lethal at close range, usefull for the team to shred energy shield, capable of ad some dmg also at midrange
Thunder mag leo is a good carnage killer and a general purpose knife fighter
Thunder pinata leo is an ambusher specialised in killing light and medium shielded bots but able to cripple a lancelot
Thunder pin leo is a versatile mid/close support platform

I blazed through silver league without stopping on the backs of two piñata/thunder leos. It's viable up until about gold 2 as well. People in silver tend to play very dumb too so it's easy to bait people into corners with the piñatas.

I like thunder pinata leo, just like budget version of lancelot thunder orkan but still viable.

Punishers are like Thunders, you need to be right next to them to do any damage.
I'd say go with Thunder Magnum is pretty standard and gives you some "range", 350 to be precise, since Leo is so slow. Splash build like Thunder Piñata is good too, or Ancile Piñata but you need to play peek-a-boo. It can take down slow Lancelots, Ancilots, and Galahads.

Leo is a good stand-in for lancelot, especially with all the rockets about. Thunder Pinata or thunder Mag are standards, aphids are kind of broken atm, and will wane in usefulness when dash bots start showing up. I've been using a Thunder Pinata and an Ancile Magnum Leo, the latter is a bit pricey, and ancile is kind of lackluster on most other bots not named Lancelot, but if you're looking for something that can soak up some damage until you get your hangar to 9/9, Leo is definitely something to keep around.
