Howdy,
Thunder Carnages are giving me a hard time. In the 6 months i am playing War Robots now, i only managed to kill 5 Carnages.... 1 on my own, which must have been Level 0 as he exploded after 5 Taran shots and the 4 other Carnages were teamwork, with 2-3 other players.
However, usually when a Carnage sees me (even from 500m away), i am already dead. No matter what i try, i can not kill them... Not with plasma, not with rockets not with bullets, not even when i throw eggs at them. I can't get them down with corner shooting. Their hitpoints just won't go down. Their shield can be taken down very easily, but not their hitpoints !? I can't even escape, not even when i am in my L9 Gareth, the Carnage will always get me !? And the worst thing is, the same Carnage usually kills ~2 more team mates after me, that have tried to get him down with me... 「whiskey tango foxtrot」 ?
So my question is: What is the trick to defeat a Carnage and why do his hitpoints go down so slow, like he has a special armor (physical shield) ?
Looking forward to your answers.

I don't know, without watching some video of your gameplay.... what to tell you. I mean, it is common to take down Carnies in a Plasma Gary with no issues... And in Galahads... Punisher Griffs, pretty much anything. Now... how I do it is determined by what they are using; i.e., Thunders, Zeus, or Tridents. Range that they can attack from is key to what your options will be. They don't have any physical shields, and their Ancile is the least strong out of the 3 that are in the game. A Griff with Punishers will drain it, then will shred the bot itself in no time. Tarans and Mags, shred it. Zeuses cook it. Trebs splatter it. I don't know what is happening in your games... but I would venture a guess that they are hitting their "Rush" ability and getting out of your plasma range or outrunning and avoiding rockets when you are seeing them not get hit. Just a guess... again, I don't know how you are trying to deal with them, and can only give you suggestions.

Pretty sure OP means lancelot. Lol.
I like my thunder carnage, but he goes down quickly to plasma.

Pretty sure OP means lancelot. Lol. Erm ... NO. Lancelots are real fat, tough mechs, but they don't take me down so fast like a Thunder Carnage. Just a guess... again, I don't know how you are trying to deal with them, and can only give you suggestions. Yeah right, i should have added a bit more infos... I mainly play my L6 Griffs (L8 Taran/Magnum or L8 Pinata/Orkan). To be able to hit them, i need to let them come to me as close as 350m or 300m. I usually do cornershooting, trying to get their HP down to maybe a 1/3 and then i'd like to finish them with all 4 weapons. Since the Carnage probably rushes at me to get as close as possible to unload the thunders, i either need to retreat which sucks in a slow Griffin or keep firing, hoping i can take his hp down finally. And they usually don't rush away from me, but straight at me, as if they know they will easily kill me as soon as they manage to come around the corner...grrr Actually it could be possible, that their mech+weapon level is just much higher than mine, which would explain, why they always shred me. Thanks for your reply

It's hard for me to destroy Carnages, too, but I think the key is staying out of whatever their weapon range is and destroying them from afar which is the opposite of my playing style, so I always let them kill me and hope a teammate will finish the Carnages off.

I'm guessing lag. You mainly use precision weapons(plasma) or Splash, both easily avoidable by high speed rush carnages. The lag might be making them immune to your shots. And lv8 dual thunders sub 300 is scary. I shread Plasma Griffs with my Thunder carny(thunders lv 8 and 5) under 300 no sweat (with some health left), but only on 1v1.

Not sure what you are doing if you are saying you can't take them in a Galahad, in a level 9 now but even when I was at level 7. I can usually take a Thunder Carnage with my Galahad, plasma kind. I say usually because sometimes they get me, sometimes I get them, it's probably a 50% overall. Occasionally with a Gary, but that's rare and under only certain conditions I won't lie it's rare. I don't have a Galahad yet. I own a L9 Gareth (L7 Magnum/Taran) and what i said was, that i hardly can escape a Carnage with this little, fast mech. When fighting, i can stand my ground a good while, if my shield was still undamaged. Will try to hunt some Carnages with my Gareth and see if that works better than in my Griffins. I'm guessing lag. Well...good carnage pilots use it as psychological warfare.xd I bring out my carnage towards 7-8 min mark to clean up quickly bots with low health. Use plasma to kill carnages and don't get close.ever.

with a taran magnum griffin, you need to make sure your tarans are fully charged before taking one on, blast away at 350m and then jump backwards, as he charges to gain some distance while continuing to blast away. You should be able to eliminate him depending on your weapons vs bot level, or at least leave him on the verge of death. If you can land behind cover, even better.

Yes, use the jump to get back. Most of them have Thunders, so you are usually safe out near the 300m mark. Usually if they can rip you apart quickly, it's because they are at close range.
Much harder to take them with Orkan/Pinata, as they explode on the ancile.
When they get very close (if their rush is still active) they can circle you quite quickly while their thunders shred you quickly. Stay as far away as possible.

mechtout & elttaes : If i can, i jump backwards, but when cornershooting on small maps, there's sometimes not much room and often i jump against something, when i jump back in panic... lol However, thanks to everyone for the tips/feedback, i will just try harder

I've used three setups with pretty good results vs Thunder Carnages. Typically, I've used a Thunder/Pinata or Zeus/Magnum setup on my Leo.
For the first setup, I use the Thunder to drop the armor as they get close. I can typically do that as they approach while I'm hidden behind an obstacle. Once they've arrived, I unload all my Pinata's on them while using the remaining Thunder shots.
With Zeus/Magnum, those completely ignore the shield and just do straight damage, homey.
Last night, I was tinkering with a Punisher setup on a Griffin. I had one L10 Punisher2, a L4 Punisher2, and two L7 Punishers. They cut two Carnages down very nicely.
A lot of success vs Carnages requires that you be strategic with the encounter and do it on your terms. Regardless of what type of robot you use, try to fight to your advantage rather than your opponent's.

Don't corner shoot. you are wasting your PDB there. Full on blast the carnage starting 350 m. If they are rushing out in the open toward you, you just walk / jump back while keep shooting. Usually you should win unless they have much higher gear.
When I engage a griff in my carny, I usually try to use cover to get to sub 200 m before starting to fight if it is a PDB.

Poopface: Thanks for the feedback bro ... Guess i need to hunt some Carnages now, instead of running away to get the practice i need... hehe Maybe it will also help to get my mechs to L9 to have the max speed, even if it's just a tiny bit more km/h

You must understand the Thunder Carnage to defeat the Thunder Carnage.
The Thunder Carnage is one of my favorite setups. At close range it will shred everything that doesn't have a physical shield. The play style is simple, approach under cover and blast the enemy at close range. However, exceptional Thunder Carnage pilots are also exceptionally cunning and patient. They wait for backup, for you to be distracted, for sprint to refresh, but mostly they wait for you to lose your patience and approach. Unless you catch them by surprise (unlikely) or flush them out with teammates you will almost always be fighting them on their own terms. The place, the time, and most importantly the distance of their choosing.
To beat the Thunder Carnage you will need to flip the script and have them play on your terms. Keep your distance and don't be drawn in by the illusion that you can take them out on their terms. If they are waiting around a corner, it is a trap, don't chase them. Retreat and come back with friends. Keep them stranded at the 300m mark, unable to approach and unable to retreat. Be wary of engaging another bot while a Carnage is nearby. The moment you do, that carnage will be breathing lead down your neck.

It is completely possible. A Plasmahad for example can backpeddle while firing, likewise, a Plasma Griffin can do the same thing with a jump. The difference winning and losing is the distance you start with. In other words, it isn't that a sprinted Carnage won't catch up but that they will be dead by the time they do if you start with 300m. If you aren't in a plasma bot, you really shouldn't be anywhere close to a Thunder Carnage--Retreat!

It might be thrilling and fun and you are top-notch driver, but it is a matter of a second that separates you from hospital, cemetery or jail, and it is actually not worth the risk. Just one minor mistake and squishy little plasma bot is dead. I wouldn't believe it before I get Carnage for myself. It chews Gareths and Stalkers alike, and Galahad is just a tad harder. Griffins and Leos are no match for this beast. To win, you must be: 1) Pointed backward from Carnage. If you need time to turn your legs - you are dead. 2) Carnage must be pointed sideways to you, or away from you, so you get additional seconds while he is turning. 3) Rushed Carnage will be getting closer to a Phalanxed Galahad at rate of 7 m/s (given that both are at least at lvl9); and if you are not using your shield - you will be dead pretty soon. 4) Taran should be at full charge. Mind you, many players are running around with 60-80% shots in Taran. While Thunders are reloaded automatically. If you did everything right - then your plasma will wreck havoc while your shield will be holding tight against Thunder hell. And I don't believe you could pull that trick in equally leveled Griffin at all. Or you will jump away, out of both your and his range, and Carnage will proceed somewhere else, running away from you. However, DB Griffin might pull that trick, if he jumps INTO Carnages Ancile, ideally, from the back.

Most carnage pilots are not experienced. They're very aggressive and that's the wrong way to play the bot. Any time they give chase they usually die. Smart ones run away as soon as they see plasma, hide, and bide their time to shoot within 100m.
Thunder damage decrease exponentially with distance. If you see an ancile bot moving fast, that's a carnage. Don't get close to the corner he's waiting behind. Keep them about 200m out and you should not have any problem taking a similar leveled carnage. My 9/9 Gareth takes out 12/12 thunder carnage all the time. Recognize the bot type and keep your distance. If he's entrenched then find a new target.
Or you can bait him. I sometimes go full speed at a carnage then stop at 150m. The impatient carnage usually hop out at that time and turn on speed boost. By that time I have back pedaled out of 200 and shooting him full of plasma bots.

But I think Carnage's shield is a mere anti-Aphid measure. Again, in your situation I am sure that you are more experienced than Carnage pilots you are killing. Hell, I even manage to kill two Thunder Carnages with one on Powerplant once :-D And about "eagerness" - that has it's place, too. But, said all that, I think we both can agree that this is "anti-pilot" tactics, and not "anti-bot" tactics, right? ;) See where the pilot fails, and use it to your advantage. And there is no strategy against good Carnage pilot for any of short-range Leo\Griffin\Gareth\Galahad or even Rhino. You can see that by checking Legends hangar - there are Carnages there, which means this bot as good as Lancelot\Fury\Griffin for it's niche.

L9 Gareth should have the speed keeping the distance at 300m+ and shoot the thunder Carnage to dead. PDB Griffin just jump backwards when Carnage is less than 300m. Don't let's Carnage get into 250m, the 2 Thunder hurt too much. A skilled Thunder Carnage will not charged PDB Griffin from 350m, 250m if Gareth and Galahad.

I took out a level 7 thunder Carnage (2 x lvl 7 thunder) with a level 8 Gareth. Gareth has level 8 orkans and level 8 magnum.
I tied the carny up in a narrow corridor on the power plant - it took a while but I went point blank and circled left and right....my orkans were too close for Carny Schwarzeneggers ancile to block and he had troubles locking on to me. I picked away with my mags and orkans and took him down. I checked his stats afterwards to see what the kill was - not bad with a light Gareth robot vs a level 7 carny.
So in summary: you can always get under the shield and do serious damage if you are quick, cunning and crazy enough!
