I run an ECU/Aphid Stalker as a last-in-line bot to grab beacons as the clock ticks down.
In this instance, I was running for the platform side-beacon in Shenzhen. A double-Aphid red Stalker had the same idea. No other bots anywhere near. He reached it a little bit ahead of me, and then froze up, standing right on top of it. Connection issues, I suppose. It would take me forever to kill him with my single Aphid. For a second I had no idea what to do. Then it hit me. I pushed him all the way out of the beacon's influence zone and capped it! I have NEVER, ever seen or even heard of anyone else doing this.
Let me know if you have, or if you have any other interesting stories about beacon capping. I'd love to hear them.
P.S. I finished killing him a half minute or so after that.

Nice. My Gareth was battling a Galahad over the central Yamantau beacon. I couldn't kill Him and he had more firepower than me but I was able to position myself so that I could shove him off the ramp! Galahad fell down and left me to cap the beacon (and get destroyed by a hydra)

So, we are not playing War Robots. We are playing MECHA SUMO!
That might actually be a cool game. I wonder if someone has already done it.

The most fun I've had playing this game has been being an annoying beacon grabber. Bringing firepower to the front has its place, of course, but fewer stupid shenanigans take place.
In one instance on the large snow map, I used a Cossack and ran atop the girders on the one side. Five of the opposing machines were focused on me making a dead run for that beacon. I didn't make it to the beacon (almost!) but the commotion granted the rest of my team an opening to grab the big center beacon back. It was also funny as hell.
Another had me using a Taran Cossack to run for a beacon on the same map. An opponent in a Carnage got wise to me and ran me down, shooting at me and forcing me to hide in cover. An ally went after him, and dealt huge damage to that Carnage, but was ultimately destroyed. I popped out and fired two bursts from the Taran, downing the Carnage and giving me space to take the beacon. I was laughing the whole way there, too, at how silly that just was.
Good times.

Nothing better than a taking out a med or heavy bot with a lightweight! I've tried to do this a few times in my Stalkers, but the pilots ejected before I destroyed their bots. Now I've started ejecting, too, especially during this event, so they'll be one kill short of completing a task. I don't give a damn if it's "poor sportsmanship"... I don't mind having a bad reputation.

Otherwise I'll just run into gunfire and let them take me out. Why interfere with their event kills when we're all after the same thing?

These events have produced so many bad habits: I have been mercilessly kill stealing, going AWOL so I can beacon cap and, yes, ejecting from a crippled mech.
I have stopped ejecting now tho and do a death charge to draw fire - might as well get shot and help the red get his kill total. That red might be my team mate in the next game.

I'm actually regretting NOT kill stealing, and started doing so. Got tired of doing 700k damage and having two kills because the guy with 200k has 7. If I'd have done it sooner, I wouldn't be annoyed out of my mind right now. Working toward the Raijin today, and having kills stolen at the rate I've been has been infuriating. Very much looking forward to getting back to beacon capping.

Terrible behaviour but I've stopped now as I can't be bothered to try and get the Mitsudome Raijin Boner or whatever it's called. Many apologies to all the pilots I have KS'ed. normal play will resume shortly....

Being up on the bar, but down on beacons in the closing mins, i made a play in a plasmahad for the open red side beacon on top of the ramp in dead city. A red ancilot was tracking me down from center and a red aphid gep had just spawned. The gep ran up the ramp to stall my cap, so i chased him up the ramp and he dropped below. Found myself on top with the gep and ancilot firing at me below. Soon the ancilot was heading towards the ramp up, as his little minion below prevented me from turning the beacon. I waited til the ancilot just started up the ramp and dropped down to kill his lil buddy, turn the beacon blue, and activate my shield to hold it for as long as i could as the ancilot came back down to attack me. When he finally killed me, i respawned to find i was one of two blues left. We only had one home beacon and the lead was depleting fast, with 30 secs left. Luckily the other blue was near the other home beacon and turned it for a very narrow win.

Happened more than once:
In Griffin in Springfield, going for the beacon in the "city". The enemy Lancelot or Leo comes at me, I backpedal and hide, then hide some more until the enemy comes very near... then jump at the beacon and usually I get enough time to turn it blue (also, more often than not the enemy bot gets engaged with someone coming from the "shielded" beacon and I get to shoot him in the back).
Of course, the enemy must be slow and isolated bot and their spawn point must not be in the city, or I get toasted, so it requires a bit of situational awareness.

Side hill beacon in Canyon, I was in a ECU Cossack and a treb Natasha caught wind of what I was going to do so he goes to intercept. Intelligently he didn't fire to waste a charged shot. Instead he sits on the beacon.
For awhile I just sat near him and just enjoyed the view. The two of us looked like Mufasa and Simba gazing out at the wilderness with the father saying "One day this is your kingdom son."
Eventually I got bored. Got in front of him and started jumping with the shield facing him just to troll him. Somehow he shot and I actually blocked it lol. The gloves came off after that. He started shooting me and eventually help came and I died.

This happened to me early on, I was running an Ecu Cossack in Dead City. I managed to land on the home beacon with a red sniper. He watched the battlefield, unmoved, and I danced around him. I love the Mufasa / Simba analogy, it was just like that! I've also played hide and seek in a stalker with a griffin who eventually got tired of the game and left. I don't know if there's any value in tying up a red bot, as I'm not doing too much myself.

During the event this weekend, I was pushing to cap the middle beacon in Shenzin. One of my "team" had sat for almost the whole round in the back, doing nothing. Everytime he was killed, he spawned a new bot. The last bot he spawned was an Ancilot. I steered my rhino behind him and started pushing. Somehow I actually had the Ancilot up on the front of my Rhino, so I just moved straight to the beacon using him to block all the incoming fire. I pushed on through and capped the opposite side beacon before his Ancilot finally crapped out, but I was able to get two beacons from it. I tried it again later on, and it didn't work so well

Works really well if you can match speed or protecting beacon!
