I was inspired to "enjoy the game" by a member of this board so I stepped into silver tier and like it. First thing I've learned though is that silver does not forgive - one mistake and I am dust. Quite a difference to bronze, but much more dynamic in the matches. Started with five RDB Griffins 5/6 off-shelf. Didn’t last long. Was outmatched with bots at level 9 and 10. Win-rate drooooopped. Re-Armed Griffs to DB and threw in two Orkan Galahads 2/6 and could deal some damage. Later tried adding a Stalker/Gephard for capping, which seemed to work. So I found my niche to survive. But I'd rather focus on a pure Griff hangar for now, since seeing Phoenix on youtube playing them (although not RDB) I'm very fond with that bot. So, at what level (weapons and bot) can you play a RDB Griffin competitively? The mm-tier-guide here on this forum states that silver is about 6/6. But at that level the weapons take very long to take out a Leo. So I guess this setup can only played successful when you upgrade it into gold, right? Or is it just that I have to get used to a different way to play my matches?

Imho heavy bots are not really efficient in silver. They start to shine from trash gold on (=level 8 weapons), where they begin to dish out damage. Before that a Griffin is too squishy (well... for me, at least ). Tbh I only have one Griffin in my Hangar atm (6/8 RDB) - its a fine support bot but I definately lack the skill to make a PDB work atm (will try again with level 8 Griff^^). Maybe swap in a Leo? Kinda liked him with Thunder and Aphids, but Pinatas or Mags also work like a charm

A 5 / 6 Pinata thunder leo is the best in silver

I have a 6/8 RDB Griffin and play in the aforementioned trash gold.
When I got my second Galahad I had to make a decision on which Griffin to scrap (I had all three standard varieties). The Plasma Griffin got the axe - even though it was one of my highest damage dealers both DB and RDB have more use when supporting DB and Plasma Galahads.
The trick with RDB is to keep out of plasma range. It's a support bot. It does a very good job of Yamatau if enough of the rest of the team are knifers. Peak out, shell the approaching enemy, retreat back into cover, jump back if they advance too close.
I don't use it as my first bot and may or may not bring it out depending on the opponents. If you have something like a trident carnage then an RDB griffin is superfluous in my opinion.

Imho heavy bots are not really efficient in silver. Yeah, for me, every time I take my Griffins for a spin, no matter what weapons I put in it, MM gives me significantly tougher competition. It's pretty interesting to check out from time to time, though. I think the wiki upgrading guide recommends leaving heavies shelved until your weapons are level 8, although a clan mate has had great success with them and level 7 weapons.

Typically you "should" only have 1 mid-range bot in your 5-slot hangar, if you solo a lot.
And typically heavy bots are only starting to get more efficient at 6/7 and above, that is the high silver tier. Any lower, the weapon level is too low, and will be out-run and out-gun by higher level medium bots.

Grifs only really shine once you get them up to 6/7 with weps about 8/9.

A 5 / 6 Pinata thunder leo is the best in silver On the forum we usually put bot lvl first and weap lvl second so think you meant 6/5 leo with thunder and pinatas. Having said that, think a good general rule of thumb is to have weap lvl higher than bot, so would suggest 6/7 is still good for top-end of silver tier, if you really want to field heavies in that tier.

RDB griffin is like fine wine. It gets better with age. I started seeing a big difference when my weapons got to level 9. I use mine all the time and will start with it if a few runners drop before me. Great overall silver bot, maybe the best of the all silver lineup. At bot 8 and weapons 10, it packs quite a punch.
By the way, a leo is always a bot that will take a long time to bring down....no matter the RDB griffin you use. If at all possible, try and fire at injured bots in support of your teammates, some will get what you did for them.

If you think silver is unforgiving, wait until you get into gold. One wrong step and you're hurtling through the sky.
Anyways, low gold starts from 7/9, high silver is 6/8. Yes, the rdb griff and other heavies are best from high silver and onwards.

As others have said, it's not worth it run the RDB grif before you have it at 6/7 - 6/8. Before that your weapons are underpowered for your tier. As long as it's levels are in line with the rest of your hangar for your tier it will always be usefull.
Another thing to remember is that it's a support bot. It's job is to support your teammates, not go 1v1 with reds. Stay back from the fighting, keep a 500m circle around your bot free of reds, move into firing range just long enough to unload then retreat.
I love my RDB grif, it's the oldest bot in my hangar and I don't have any plans to replace it anytime soon.

i have a question: does an hangar full of Lv6 Griffs with Lv12 weapons performs better than a lv10/12 griffs with same setup?

i have a question: does an hangar full of Lv6 Griffs with Lv12 weapons performs better than a lv10/12 griffs with same setup? At a time I had very good luck with a medium hanger of 2/7 (rather than the approved 4/6). I don't see how a level 6 griffin with 12 weapons could perform better than a level 10 griff with 12 weapons (what's the benefit?). But it may perform better than an 8/10

Yes, the rdb griff and other heavies are best from high silver and onwards. I share this sentiment. Nothing like spawning in a brand new DB rhino to be taken out by tridents even before you get a single shot in. LOL. Which leads me to think maybe damage vs HP is too disproportionate?

I run 3 Griffins and a Galahad, all level 6 bots, with 7-8 lvl weps. I started running heavys once I got all weapons I would need to level 7.
I run 2 Griffins as db and swap in & out my 3rd with either plasma/rdb. I also swap my 5th slot with my Rhino or Carnage. I always like running the Griffins, really like ambush knife fighting. My rdb Griffin still lacks the punch of db & plasma with level 7-8 weps but I do like it on big maps so I will keep leveling & hope when get the Weps to level 9 there will be significant increase in damge.
