I am asking because the game has been consistently giving me long range maps; with this ocassional order: spring field> canyon> springfield> canyon> yamantu- then a short range map every ten games or so. Are maps really randomly chosen? Is it possible that it favorably gives long range maps to make it longer for players to grind for gold?

Dude, a lot of people who farm/club in lower tiers simply skip large maps during the 15sec countdown (Cant speak for higher tiers- my clan usually runs low gold and we dont skip).
That way the Matchmaker looks for another player to fill the gap - so most probably you do have a higher chance to end up in Yama and thelike...

My guess is that they operate multiple servers each dedicated to a single map, and the load-balancer fits you in. All my bots usually are armed for 300 - 350 mtr. therefore I usually skip Springfield. I am used to get Springfield a few times in a row after that until there are enough games running on that server, and I finally get a different map.

I always seem to get the maps in this order from most to least popular: Dead City, Canyon, Powerplant, Yamantau, Shenzen, Springfield.

I really do not see one map more than the others. Yes, there will be days, I would get one particular map often. Howver, over the course of a week, I usually see all the maps equally.

I could pilot dead city with my eyes closed at this point just because I see it so often. It really works for my play style at least.
