So, I went all in in a determined effort to max my Tengu. Even bought an upgrade pack for it. I even had 1.4M credits when I started this and over 9k Acoins. Depleted everything to almost nothing (even bought more Acoins) and managed to get my Tengu to R6.6. Just one level shy of max and running with SG8....sigh...
Then, I decided to finally take the Tengu out on a test run - but with JR8/6. Yes, I'd only run the Tengu in a couple of sole custom games before this and finally had the bright idea to try running it now to get used to it. Ugh, it's not as easy as I thought it would be! It's not as fast as Shadow (not nearly), the jump is more of a short low elevation dash and while it's almost as powerful as KS's Melee Dash, it doesn't go nearly as far. The Stasis Duration is 5s and the Stealth Duration is 4s, so not nearly enough time to get away if I made a mistake. Plus, right now, with JRs, I don't really get close enough to the ability and I don't really have any other weapons I can put on it. I suppose I can upgrade my EM6 but that would be a waste. Or I can dust off my MR8 and MR6 but again, a waste of resources.
Anyway, I went and looked at what implants were available for Tengu. Barely anything. I have the Purple stasis duration implant that at max extends the stasis by 40% but the only other implant I can see that is available is a gold implant that at max extends stealth by 50%. So, if I got both of these and maxed them, Stasis duration would go to maybe 7s and stealth to 6s. Wuhoo... I suppose I can put the ability damage implant on as well, but I need the slots for SG damage and range.
From what I've seen from other human players, Tengu is a 「deteriorated bum-bum」 brawler/ambush mech but it doesn't have a lot of other uses.
Well, since I've abandoned my plans to max my Stalker, I'm going to keep pushing to max my Tengu. Next, I'll be focusing on my Redeemer and will likely shell out for the EM12 at that point or maybe even get the RG12. That will finish my Scout mech hangar which I would only run for fun.
So, my future scout mech hangar would look like this:
KS - JR12/RM12 Surge - AT12 Shadow - DL8 Tengu - SG8 Redeemer - weapon to be determined but likely EM12 or RG12 but will likely be either JR12 or RM12 until I get something else.
This hangar would likely only be good for CPC games, but I bet it would be fun to run!

According to the feedback I'd been reading, you'll want both the Ability Cooldown (Legendary being best) and Sky Strike Stealth Duration implants installed on your Tengu.
The cooldown aspect being critical to ensuring an essentially perma-stealth gameplay.
By the way, I've witnessed a Shadow + EM8, all maxed out : it's devastating.

I think anything with maxed EMR is devastating...the challenge is getting close with SG8. I've played SG8 Shadow a few times against humans and it's been a hoot when I pull off an ambush from the side or behind.
I'll definitely keep an eye out for the legendary stealth implant. I think it's better than the Stasis implant by far. As for the ability cool down, I think I might have a purple one lying around but am not sure. Certainly have tons of blue ones!

Why don't you try loading an AT12+AT6 on your Tengu and see how it fares ?
An AT should afford you more distance for strinking enemy bots.

Tengu does seem like it's only good for brawling but man it is good at that. Particularly for FFA, it seems like a good mech to have on hand. Mine is nowhere near maxed but I've seen some good players running it and I definitely want it myself. It is the next priority for me to max (along with SG8s) after I get done with my Redeemer/EMRs. While shotguns seem best, ArcTorrents are supposed to be next best weapon so give those a try.
Why did you decide against maxing your Stalker? It is still my deadliest mech. Although you don't have DL12s, right? Those are what truly makes it unstoppable.

I appreciate this thread. I recently acquired a Tengu, haven’t even taken it for a spin. It’ll be a long term project for fun but it’s good to read how others are using it and what weapons/implants they think are best for gameplay.

My Tengu isn't maxed yet so I can't try this combo on it. 2. I did try this combo when I was maxing my Surge for a while and I didn't like it too much. While it works, it lacks the heavy hitting punch that sometimes got me in trouble. Of course, with the Sky Strike, this will do better on the Tengu for sure. 3. I'll need both my AT12 for my Surge! lol.

But, I've recently gone back to running AT12 on my Surge, in preparation for moving the SG8 to my Tengu (currently running on Shadow so that I practice getting in range). So, with Surge running AT12, I don't feel like I needed another mech to run AT12. I already have Ares and Killshot maxed so that I can change things up if I wanted for different modes/maps. Plus, I don't have the good Stalker implants that turn it from a great mech to an awesome OP mech. Maybe if I ever acquire the good implants, I'll come back to my Stalker but for now, I'm going to give my Scout hangar dream a solid try. I'm at R6.6 for both Stalker and Tengu so I'm close with either.

And before that, dual AT6 (yeah it's feeble).

My Tengu is currently at 6.2 with Neymar Jr - shotgun range, shotgun dmg, ability dmg, and ability cooldown. With the gold range implant shotguns can reach to 58m (optimal range 28m) at max, I think this is an absolute must for running shotguns. With Tengu I think Neymar is very helpful to give an extra bit of mobility to the mech, and ability cooldown is super important too.
Personally, I don't think stealth duration or stasis duration are helpful. These aren't why Tengu's ability is good. Tengu is good when you jump behind an enemy and kill them before they have a chance to turn. Those two implants don't do that. Damage implants are what kills people dead.
@ koala: Tengu is absolutely going to underperform with JRs. The ability has anti-synergy with the JRs. Shotgun 8 and 4 works great for me but AT6s or MR8+6 should do good work too. Give it some time - the jump is weird at first and it takes practice to know what you can jump over/onto and how far away to jump from (let alone the advanced maneuver of avoiding emp blasts).

My SG4 is severely underleveled but I suppose I can give it a shot for a few games to see how it goes. So far, I'm loving the playstyle of being sneaky with Shadow and blowing people up from behind when they don't know that I'm there. My only other concern is the Tengu's speed and lack of stealth pre-ability use. With the Shadow, I generally want til my target is close, activate stealth to prevent them from noticing me right away and then blast away and hope I kill them before they turn and kill me. Shadow is SO flimsy!

Well my Tengu is gonna lament some more...
I've decided NOT to rush the last level and just let it collect bps organically. Instead, I'm going to focus on Gatecrasher and - yep I went to the darkside - Bastion. Ugh...
