So last week I doubled my EMR16 during the Specialization Spree. Been playing with it in other modes, but today was the first day I put it to the test in 5v5 Tournament. And dayum... First match, which where there is no human opponent features the easiest AI, I meched out the enemy both times and racked up 37 kills total (pics above). Overall, I played my usual 9 matches and scored a total of 5200+ points, which is a new high for me. That said, I only faced one human opponent in one match and the Container City map is a pretty ideal map for shooting straight down the map with a sniper rig. But considering this map used to be one of my main Rocket Mortars maps, it does show the changes in the meta. Anyway, I'm sure the fact that EMRs are now the dominant build isn't a surprise to anybody. But I have been taken aback by how many Monster Kills you can get, shooting weapons single fire. It doesn't quite hit the heights of the old Rocket Mortars days, when I got a few 800+ matches. This was my best match and I still only got two Monster Kills. But you do get MKs on a frequent basis and I consistently earned more points for a higher total than I did back when with RMs. Frankly, I think part of the latest nerf with RMs (they finally listed a damage radius and now the value is just 6m, which even with the gold radius implant means it can only go up to 10m max) might not just be to limit an f2p weapon, but also to protect mechs with EMRs. By adding in more fast AI mechs they'd already made Stalker DL12s the best mech in 5v5, but now EMR builds seem to beat it out. I think I am also starting to get why I am seeing more Stalker AT12s instead of DLs, since they mow down opponents faster when dropped later in the match.
My EMR12s are nowhere near maxed. They hit with about 7.5k less damage per shot so I imagine Panther EMR16s will still be better than the faster Redeemer EMR12s which has the same HP as Guardian. But maybe not on smaller maps, where I am seeing Redeemers dropped first and higher maneuverability probably outweighs the protection Panther's fence provides.
Anyway, that's about all the tournament meta observations I've got. I am not at the front edge of the meta curve. I've finally gotten close enough that I can catch up to it in a reasonable amount of time, but the fact that I just doubled my EMR16s and have only an R4 Redeemer shows where I am in relation to the top adopters and 7k hangar crowd. Still playing the rig gave some little insights versus just getting beaten by it. Hopefully they are helpful as folks are prioritizing their various upgrades.

Thanks for this. I'm still on the fence as to whether or not to start splurging to double up my EM16. So far, I've resisted because on my Panther, I have GB16, which from what I've seen, can kill almost as fast as the EM16 but with target assist and (with the current bug) infinite ammo.
Side note: am I bad for not reporting the GB16 infinite ammo bug??

I don't want your other upgrade priorities are, but doubling EMR16s is definitely worth the effort.

I'd been working to max my SG8s but have been doing that orgainically and letting the bps come as they come. If I double my EM16, I'm not sure which mech I'll put it on and with which pilot. I don't want to redo my Guardian, which is running Arc Angel who is finally decently leveled to provide almost as much benefit as my maxed Maverick. I guess I could repurpose Maverick and put him on Panther with EM16. The implant pack for EMs just came out today but TBH, I think the EM16 when doubled is so freaking powerful that the implants probably won't do that much to improve the gameplay. Kinda like how I resisted getting better implants for the RG16.

Man, these things are so crazy they need to be illegal. I feel like EMRs are the virtual equivalent of some designer drug from China. On both the sniper maps, Agora and Hanging Gardens, I basically got 700-800 points any game where I faced AI. Consistently racked up kill totals in the high 30s and low 40s. I would get occasional 800ish games in the old Rocket Mortar days, but here it is happening far more often. Against humans with EMRs, often the match is just who can destroy the other team's bots faster. Had multiple games where it was basically just 2 humans left at the end and like 20 seconds still left on the clock. I am more convinced than ever that RMs we're nerfed not just to make EMRs seem better but to also protect EMRs from incoming fire, as that is their main weakness.
Interestingly, it turns out that the multiple kill awards (Double Kill, Multi-Kill, Monster Kill) are only given out once per mech per match. I hadn't realized that. If that wasn't the case, EMRs would get way more MKs per match than RMs ever could.

TBH EMRs are starting to sour my attitude towards the game. I’m not a fan of when developers introduce weapons that players just gotta have to be successful. I’ve rarely beat a human opponent this week. I hope EMRs don’t affect the future development of the game the way dashbots did in War Robots.

Agreed, the EM16 is a monster. I can kill an AI Ares with a double shot through it's healthy frontal shield now. Personally, I hope the EM16 is the last OP thing I had to get in this game.
The RM nerf is getting annoying and now I'm thinking I may get the NL12 instead as my RM replacement. This game needs an indirect fire counter to the EM. DL is a good but inconsistent, JR can be countered easily and RM...well, we all know it's very iffy now.

It's worth remembering that the shield thing is a bug. Hopefully when that gets fixed it'll help a little bit against EMRs, as they'll first have to knock down the shield before they can damage health. Doubt it'll do much, but fingers crossed.
They really are absurd. And I don't get why they have auto-adjusting aim. The stupid things have a laser to help you aim. At a minimum they should be like Railguns and require you to do it yourself.
As for counters, I'm going the usual route and upgrading more EMRs. I know, I know, but I'm not adventurous on my hangar anymore. Hoping I can scrape up enough A-Coins to bring my Redeemer up to R6 and put decently enough levelled EMR8+12 on it. Gonna be a while before I can max it, but hopefully that'll be good enough. Need another sniper pilot though.

With the purple implant there's a 23% boost to up to 98m. The gold imolant only takes it up 30% to 104m, which is the same as Javs with the gold implant. I was up against a guy on the Agora map who instamaxed his and stuck them on an Orion. He got to the middle map and got my EMR Panther by surprise once. But the second time he tried, I just backed up 15m and he couldn't do squat. And it seemed like he had to expose himself to make the shot because I got him pretty quick. So that was just one guy but I kinda doubt Nades will do better than Javs. At least Javs can curve the shot, etc. Honestly I think the only real counter to EMRs is... EMRs.

EMR vs EMR becomes whoever sees the other first and gets the first accurate shot off first. I just don't have that jerk reflex skill. I'm actually starting to think of VPRG as a possible counter. DL16 is great, but the lock on is still annoying as heck for those shots where the auto lock on automatically turns on. Yanking my torso away enough to break lock in order to manually aim is a pain and often gets me killed.
Don't worry, I won't pick up the VRPG any time soon... just thinking of it. I would rather get the JR12 before I pick up VRPG.
You know what makes EMRs even more of a pain? Keyboard and mouse players. I RQ'd a game where a guy was running a maxed Redeemer with maxed EM12 and was moving in a way that it was obvious he was on keyboard and mouse or maybe even a controller. There's just no beating that kind of agility.
I wish there was a Mech Assault type of game that gives you the mech experience without all the dizzying customization complexity.

Koalabear - Totally agree on computers. What's worse is they just hit the shift key to instantly sprint, whereas phone players have to wait for it to kick in. That makes them much more resistant to rocket mortars, which are one of the few counters. I don't know why there is an option for a sprint button on the phone controls. Also an optional rearview miniscreen. We have rearview cameras on freaking station wagons these days, why isn't it available on future battle mechs?? I'm doubtful about VRPGs though. Eventually I'll get my VRPG16 to R6 and really be able to test it, but I don't think it does quite enough damage to kill a maxed human fast enough. Also its damage radius isn't that big and it doesn't really disrupt their aim for more than a millisecond. Especially against Redeemers, you kinda need to nail them in one shot. Sigh.
