So, one day in the chat, a player clued me to the fact that the LA12 is more powerful than the RG16. At R3, it's not that far behind the RG16 in terms of magazine damage. Then, when you factor in the OH, it's likely more powerful. I'm thinking, sure at optimal range, it very likely is. But, what about below optimal range? Would it be viable for the Zep? I see some people running dual LA10 on the Zep to some effect. And I'm thinking it would make the Ares a killer sniper - and most dual LA12s I see out there are mounted on Ares. On a maxed Stalker though...wow. Heck, even Brickhouse would be dangerous.
I don't think I would be picking it up, but I guess for new players who have the option and don't want/can't wait to get RG16, it's definitely viable. I'm not too fond of sniper builds myself so RG16 Guardian is enough for me.
