Mech battle servers are still up. The game has had no support other than bug fixes for the better part of it's existence. The Devs have literally abandoned actively working on the game. Yet, the server goes on.
The argument that companies like Plarium and Pixo "need to keep the lights on", trying to hand wave away their business practices has always been a weak argument. Dead games not losing online support until they're literally 2 generations old has been the consistent proof that such things aren't how this works.

Plarium has hit the point of diminishing returns. There is so much pay to play, let alone win, that players have left or will leave. I know I had several matches yesterday where I actually meched out! Haven't done that except occasionally in at least 6 months. And that was in cpc! You have to spend for pilots and upgrades just to keep up. I hesitate to do that as this may be the new normal. Eff that. I can always go play 6pack on War Robots (level 6 ceiling on mechs/weapons).

I had fond memories of Mech Battle when it first came out. The game was balanced and the mechanics were similar to War Robots, and the Dev was responsive with bug fixes and updates. Then, something happened behind the scenes and all of a sudden, the game was stale and there was no more updates. I eventually stopped playing but I did like it for a while and it almost became my War Robots killer.

It’s just greed, plain and simple, looking for the fast buck. Find a genre that works, offer something different to hook players (in this case it was the promise of balance and parity), then tweak a few parameters to make it a little more difficult and add some critical resources that are near impossible to obtain without spending real money, and poof, you have a cash cow. Why should they care what the majority of players think or want when there will always be that population with deep pockets and a demonstrated willingness to dig into them to obtain a level of superiority.

A complete mystery why they actively worked on the game and with the growing community to then suddenly slam the door shut and abandon the game without any explanation.MA beta reminded me so much of MB in how it grew and changed and seemed to be on the right track for balance and fun.
Another complete mystery is why the game was never sold to another company rather than having it stagnate with no obvious interest from the owners, the community was large enough and growing for someone to take it over and carry on working on it.

If they were going to keep it going, they would have had to go the way of War Robots, and now MA. The game being stagnant in a state that is basically end-beta War Robots is a breath of fresh air compared to casinos and gatchas. People keep saying they want new things, without realizing that's exactly what fuels the monitization. If the game isn't fun to ~play~ outside of constantly trying to get to that next step, and players actually ~complain~ about reaching a definitive end-game, that's what keeps the carrot on the stick just out of reach.

The fundamental problem with games like these is the in game currency. Having premium currency as an in game reward devalues it, as players can eventually amass enough to get new content for free. That's when the casinos and P2W features get piled on, in game resource accrual is choked, and the game segregates into seals and clubbers. Many may not know this, but War Robots drastically increased upgrade times and costs right after after the clan wars event while it was still in beta. The only F2P players of any significance, have been here from the start. Even scape isn't full maxed, but the wallet warrior rollout has been fierce across ALL levels of the game. Hell, I could be called P2W because I've dedicated myself to a single account, and put a bit of the money saved from playing alt accounts into setting up. But even in Div3, I AM FACING MAXED PLAYERS.
Remember, the MM is still EXP based. The global whales haven't caught up to you guys yet. Gawd speed.

We will never know the reason why they closed the doors as they never explained to my knowledge,I remember I was pissed at the time as I had just bought a years VIP to support the game.
I don't mind spending some to support a game, but it always needs balance to keep me playing,or actively working on game balance,as soon as I saw what pilots did to MA I was done, and again I had spent money on the game while it was in beta because I found it great fun and balanced.
But yeah I think I'm done with mobile gaming, everything I have played has turned into a frustrating money pit which I can't be a part of.
I followed someone's advice on this forum and starting listening to audio books, far more relaxing and surprisingly a lot more fun.
