When I was at the turning point of dedicating my life to MTB or not, i was considering buying Superior. It was around 3000⬠back in 2013 when I was obsessed with it. I don't think bikes get any better... superiorbikes.com/hr/2021/mtb-full-suspensionSad story, i didn't get it... So i started building 「dookie」 SUP I only occasionally look at new bikes. I couldn’t see myself spending more than $3k on a MTB either. You can get pretty decent bikes in that range. Even though I’d like to have a bike with disc brakes, I can’t imagine replacing my baby. 22 years and I love it like it was brand new. If I were 35 years younger I’d probably pick up a good DH bike but I’ll be reaching the top of the hill next year so I’ll stick with the hard tail.

Never heard of Mullet aside from the bad hair style choice of the eighties…and the type of fish. The frame geometry looks interesting, but since I’m no engineer I stick to more traditional options. What’s the damage since the picture states “frame only”? Of course you’d have to add all the components yourself and since you’re just learning I’d look for a complete bike because you might end up paying a lot more for components. I’ll look up Mullet and see what they’re all about and give a better assessment. Okay, did a little research: So the big idea behind Mullet bikes/ and the mullet style is larger front wheel compared to the rear. Mullet uses a 29” front and 27.5” rear. While the larger wheel is supposed to allow for rolling over obstacles easier, the smaller(in comparison) rear is supposed to allow for better cornering by giving better control. Personally, I’m not sold. I feel it’s too gimmicky…but I’m also not a professional rider. To the MTB novice, I would stick to the traditional same size wheels unless you have a chance to rent or spend some time with a mullet to see if it will benefit you. MTB takes a lot of specialized skills as is. Adding different tire sizes may extend your learning curve and could make it more difficult and less fun. Another note: Mullet bikes are designed and built in Colorado, but the frames are welded in Taiwan. Take that any way you wish. They may be very good bikes, but I’m a little skeptical. Giant is made in Taiwan, but they learned from Schwinn so they have good bikes. The frame only means those wheel sizes must be used. More and more top shelf brands are going this way. Mullet is a thing now. This rig has some upgrade options, but starts around 1500USD. Upgrades add to that price. The mullet (company) website lists the components on this bike. This sounds perfect for where I will go as a mtber, as the top shelf stuff is over 5 grand, and I’ll not be turning pro or anything, plus I want to stick with hardtail, and not pay for full suspension. I really like what my research has found out about the mullet builds. If you get it, I’ll come out and test it for you Hard tails for life

Nice bikes everyone! I am more of a roadie, but I do go off road on both a gravel bike and mountain bike. I raced road for 14 years and I worked at Giant for 11 years (until they laid me off). Bikes are cool and a serious passion of mine. This my current ride (race ready from a few years ago, has a new saddled and bar tape now). Nice bike Gman. Jealous of those wheels. Coulda used them tonight in my TT. Tubular or clincher? I would guess tubular as I spotted some Dura-ace on the bike. Sorry for the delayed reply. I haven't been on the forum in a little bit. Those wheels are clinchers, made by Giant - they are calling them Cadex these days. I had some Zipp 404s Tubies but I sold them to a friend.

Had a great ride this morning, summer temps gone, mid 60s, quite a few riders out there today. Had a few rough spots, but made it upright, lol, and was smiling! Had like 6 pics, but only these making it from my phone….. Way cooler pics hopefully will come soon!

Took a ride two days ago in the local trails. First MB ride in a while. Mostly been focusing on the road bike. Forgot to Deet up and remembered why I don’t ride those trails in the summer. Chiggers tore me a new one. Trail was good though. Can’t wait for the first hard frost to kill them buggers off.

I’m hoping I’ll be able to get out there next year.

In fact, it is pretty technical and rough, at least for a noob rider, lol.
It is also such a rush! Other pics I have are way better to see it, hope to post some later….

I know it's not MTB but as a father of 3 boys age 8 and younger I recently bought a redline BMX bike to cruise with my kids. They're all very big into riding BMX on the dirt trails here. We live on a pretty big place on a river with trails and I've built some ramps for them.
I raced BMX in my pre teen years as did many of the late 70s early 80s kids and I can say for a guy pushing 40 it feels incredibly good to know I can still rip up a dirt track and show my kids how to catch some (modest) air.
Not to impinge on your MTB discussion, respect to all cycling, carry on.

They will look up to you because of that and you will be their hero. Instead of someone else. Plus it shows them that old people (I’m 45) can still do cool stuff too! I used to ride bmx, but the suspension on the MTB helps to take the jarring out of the ride. I still try to catch some air when I can. Watching my son ride his bike and slowly get better at riding and jumping is very satisfying.

So, went out for a small ride last night to finish the weekend off properly. Perfect temps and weather. Right at dusk, so it gets kinda spooky too. Saw a few deer, couple of ATVers, but not much else. Tried to stay outta the tall grass so as not to get chiggers again, to no avail. Them buggers are all over out there. Only got bit by ten this time. lol. First pic is my favorite part of the trail. Dips down into a little ravine and up the other side. Figure I am riding good when I can make it up without hoping off of the bike. Does not happen too many times though. Other pic is my son's favorite fishing hole. He pulled out a 23 inch pikeral (big for around here) this past May. We nicknamed it MR. Lunkhead, cause the head was massive on that thing. Odometer stopped working on the ride, so I have no idea of how far the ride was. 8ish miles I think.
