I have just gotten two light Sting up to level 7, and tried them out on my phantom. I was using level 8 punishers. I read they have something called corrosive damage and can hit anything close the the hit box without locking on, and if even a little part of the enemy is showing they will have 100% in hitting them despite behind behind a wall.
This is attractive vs the punishers on a phantom when doing beacon runs, but I had my first run in with what I think was a inquisitor.... I unloaded into him and nothing happened. No delay, no nothing. I just died and he took my beacon.
So the advantages are obvious, and if I’m under a bridge recharging as another dash bot is charging up above, waiting to see who is about to strike, having stings “seems” a great idea- everything “seems” to be going for them, but how do I actually damage mechs with them, in a way I can see/know it is happening?

Stings are those kinds of weapons that really have to be at L9 or above to "switch on"...I have maxed out a pair and run them on a Raven that also has Hussars.
One thing you got wrong though: Stings always aim for the center of the hitbox, so if you can see just a bit of a bot peeking out from behind cover, chances are they'll shoot straight into the cover.
The projectiles themselves (five shots per burst per gun) do some damage but it's not heavy. What's cool is to land a hit, see the corrosion icon over your target, and see that damage bar slide down. I've had kills where I hit the target and they got behind cover before they died.
My favorite thing, though, is the 600m range paired with the auto-aim. I'll do a vertical pop-up from behind cover with fully charged guns, start firing on the way up, and my Hussars unload and Stings rip off two bursts each before I drop back behind cover. On Castle, you can cover a LOT of the map that way.

Would you recommend them for the phantom for what I described, or to replace my gust on my scorpion? It isn’t feeling right on my phantom right now. Also makes it look like a chicken with atrophied, feathered midget wings, the kind of wings even KFC would reject. It sounds like it could work on a ambushing flying or jumping bot.

I probably wouldn't use them on either of those. It's not bursty enough for the kind of close-range damage dump you want on a Phantom or Scorpion.

I’ve had 3 Stings for awhile but only recently really started pushing the upgrades. One is 2.4 and the other two are 1.12, ready to be mk2ed in a couple days. Then I’ll have 3 at 2.4 and will slowly max them until something else draws my Ag.
Anyways right now I run them on a Loki. An unusual build but flexible and good for distraction since it can hit at 600m and does significant damage actually. Well, against an Ares or Spectre or Leech, those kind of things, it’ll take a nice chunk of hp. Yesterday on Canyon there was a Hawk on the reds far beacon and I was 550m away joiking around cover and peppering him every few seconds. As soon as the corrosion ended he’d get sprayed again until his health was 20%, and distracted, and then killed by teammates.
Previous to the Loki I can them on a Raven with Wasps and that’s when I decided to beef up the Stings. The Wasps are 1.8, it’s a Tier 4 weapon I think, maybe tier 3, but just too expensive for me to invest in. Stings are tier 2 and these can be maxed if I like them enough. So that’s a plus. Early on I ran the 3 Stings on a Pursuer and had lots of fun, did some brawling though that’s not their niche.
The main thing I like about Stings is the auto-aim. There’s so much egregious lag in this game it’s sometimes the only way I can hit a bot. Scourge and the like are auto-aim too but have a lock-on time, I hate that. Also Sting fire is very diminutive, in the thick of battle it can be unnoticed and I’ll sometimes get 3 or 4 rounds into a red before they start looking around to find what’s taking their hp away, lol.

I pair Stings with a Hornet on my Rayker. I like that build.

Rayker has 600m suppression to mitigate long reload of hornet. Best hades can do is use legendary pilot to increase built in to 600m, but that’s better when it’s charged. people want to get in your bubble, so I don’t think range is best on hades. The built in suppression is really a huge equalizer when someone comes after you

I doubt she’ll impact Drone damage, but my maxed Viper Falcon is chomping at the bit for her. Maybe next Ops Pass, following up on the current re-run of Vipers Ops.

Mine's got a T3 lockdowner chip that obviously pairs well with the Magnetars I'm running but I should try swapping them out with my 2.12 Stings and see if those can trigger lockdown. Stings have a really short reload going for them too.

I’d be interested to hear the results, but I don’t think these weapons are very good at applying effects NARRATOR: They were not.Could definitely see the corrosion at work though. I don't know if there's an Acid Sprayer chip for bot weapons but if so, that would stack mightily on this loadout.

onasander. After running a DOT L9 Phantom this month. L6 Wasp, 2x L9 Stings I can really vouch for the effective of this build. It's a speedy midfielder with DR and if things go to the 「dookie」 bug out to safety. Maybe not for everyone but man I had a hoot.

I ran a Wasp/Sting Hover for a bit. Sting was 2.12. It worked really well, especially while the Wasps were charging. The extended glide of Hover makes good use of Stings firing mechanic. I only changed it because it was hard to see the damage done and I replaced it with Scald. Unless you have 2 or more, it's just added damage in my opinion, but if it's your only corrosion weapon the DOT is a bonus.
I just remembered: I used to run it on my Scourge Hover. I the effects were more apparent when paired with non-corrosive weapons...and the auto-lock was quite useful as Scourge is slow to lock. I recall many a kill attributed to Sting. It was cheap to upgrade, so I maxed it rather quickly.

Pair it with DoT weapons vipers, Hornet, and wasp. Hornet and wasp are like rifles, 100% accurate at long range. Also good for fast moving targets if you keep the box over them.
Early game, I use my wasps to kill phantoms. Mid game go for Fenrir first, but any regular bot will do. Late game, snipe those Mings.
These are not brawling weapons, but it’s not to bad if you gotta use it. My tarens Mk2 12 have no punch, so I switched over to Mk1 8 wasps that do better.

What bot would you recommend that combos two light and two medium, that doesn’t instantly die in a ambush? If I use wasps which are medium in combo with my two light Sting, that would be the obvious result: two medium and two light points.

I finally leveled a Raven after wanting too for the longest time ... very underrated IMO. Great to get out of ambushes if you pay attention to the little 「female dog」es that hover at 350 and just wait. Equip it with a jump module and it's even more fun, you can almost clear any map end to end if needed. AND bonus, you get a Death Mark +20% DMG every jump. Hussar/Marquess and Pulsar/Magnetar are great for range trolling. Another one I use, is Au Guang with Jump and Wasps. Good lord does it bring the pain ... and bonus, you can troll Hawks in Flight with your DR and DOT and by the time they land poof. Just be sure they don't target you. Equipped with Midea and Active Module drone and you can slaughter most bots in one pass, crack some shields on Shells, etc. Plus the little rockets tend to panic people into using abilities for some reason.

Yep, Ravens can do the job. My first drop is always my Hussar/Sting Raven. I can beat anyone to a beacon from a standing start and I can hit reds out to 600m while doing it. I do run a Nebula drone with Absorber shield on it to help with the survival rate, and the Wonderworker skill is repairing me every time I jump.

Is Hanger X where we all meet before taking me out Snipe Hunting for the first time? Try starting a custom match...you don't have to have anyone else there to start one. When the game begins, look at the bottom of the screen for an icon with a bot silhouette on it. Press that and see what happens. Also, just for the record, my Raven handily beat a Phantom from the spawn beacon to the farm beacon on Springfield this morning, starting from behind it and landing with enough time to turn around and watch him come in.

I was invited to a custom match once, and everyone somehow dropped out and it was just me walking around. No point in wasting that much time doing that again.
