I've been hearing about how good this series was for years. So, I finally got my hands on season 1. I'm about 6 episodes in, and other than the surprising full frontal nudity in the pilot, there's nothing about this series that is surprising or good - so far.... So, my question is this: when does it get good??
I remember watching a clip of space fighters attacking a space cruiser and it looked awesome. But, this first season is barely watchable. I liked the movie well enough, but I'm struggling to watch the series.
Anyone watched and liked this series?

Thought they were ok. Not amazing. But good. That has been a while ago. I recommend Dexter. That blew me away. Plus they are working on season nine to fix the effup of the ending. Never thought a serial killer would be lovable. Makes me question my sanity and judgement. Oh and frontal nudity on occasion if that’s your sorta thing.

Can’t say anything about SG1, but have just been introduced to the Expanse and it’s awesome...

I think I missed it on Netflix though. Need to find out where else I can catch it. The full frontals aren't necessarily my thing. It just surprised the heck out of me on SG-1. I'm as red blooded as the next cis male and have pretty liberal rules with respect to what my kids can and cannot watch. For example, we binged Bridgerton with my 15 year old daughter and we didn't even know there would be sex scenes in it! I guess the TV-MA rating should have been my clue...lol. I have to say, those scenes were very well handled though.

Can’t say anything about SG1, but have just been introduced to the Expanse and it’s awesome... That's another show I couldn't really get into. I tried...but, I think I will try again. I really liked Dark Matter and it was too bad they canceled it. As for other shows I'm going to give another try, I'm going to sit myself down and make myself finish The Strain one day.

The Expanse is awesome..... Back on track SG1 is probably one of my favorite shows. Albeit, i watched it as it was coming out. Its dated for sure.... its started in 97. I have tried to watch shows from this era that was told were good like Babylon 5, and just couldn't get past the "dated" factor.... BattleStar and ST Voyager being exceptions.
there's no more nudity btw.
Just read some episode summary on wiki and episode 8 is when it started to intrigue me. episodes 8 through 11 are all pretty good as far as stories go. Season 1 episode Tin Man is bad.... read the summary or watch it and make fun of it. Showtime used to air this show, and then i think fox syndicated it. It got a lot better once SyFy network took it over. The writing improved as well as the special effects... but that is either season 4 or 5 which is when i started really liking it more. . tbh i tried watching this one for a 4th time a few months back, and could not get past the second episode because of the dated factor.... seeing it 3 times b4 probably didnt help. This may be a good series to watch when you have nothing else. its on netflix and prime i think now.
The way i think of this is that this series was one of the first to do the long story arc, and there was probably a learning curve. This was also made in a time when 20 to 25 episodes in a season was the norm, so they had a lot of time to fill and some small arcs do get dragged out a bit. For me i got attached to the team. and really enjoyed when they found other civilazations.... and Oniel and Tealc were my favs. If you dont get attached to the teams charictors by mid season 2 if you make it that long, than mabe its just too dated at this point.
I wish you Good Watching Koala GiraffeMan

I loved the movie but found SG-1 too campy, but my tastes tend to run more military/action sci-fi in general. SG Atlantis was a little better, but still pretty campy and low tech FX. Star Gate Universe I found to be much, much better. Better FX, darker sets and themes, and more “tacti-cool”. I found it late and was really disappointed to discover it only had 2 seasons.

I wish you Good Watching Koala GiraffeMan I remember getting hooked on Babylon 5 when I was younger but recently tried to binge watch it but just couldn't finish the series. I found it got too repetitive and my favourite characters got less and less screen time. My faves, of course are G'kar and Molari and Susan. I guess I should go back and make a serious attempt to finish BSG. I think I only ever watched season 1 in its entirety.

And universe? Go away and put your wife on the forum instead! Stargaze is in my top 5 sci-fi telly shows, as far as when it gets good in your description for battle cruisers ect... Like season 3 or 4. Personally I don't care about space battles at all. Story is more important. I don't watch action movies either.

I liked the movie well enough, but I'm struggling to watch the series. Anyone watched and liked this series? That space cruiser is The Prometheus. They didn’t collect that technology till a few seasons in, and it was a secret project till it popped up in a episode. After that it still had a lot of story plots with it being primitive earth tech under performing, breaking down, and getting beaten or hijacked. It is the Model T of space cruisers till season 10. If you can’t stand the slow pace of the early seasons just jump into Stargate Atlantis. They explain a lot of the stargate universe rules while in another advanced galaxy with very different aliens. It starts off fully formed and you don’t have to sit there and wait for research and development by earth scientists figuring tech out over seasons- you already have access to the top military hardware of a very advanced alien civilization to further plot devices. And yes, the expanse is good. It is based off of Message in a Bottle from Season 2, Episode 7. I strongly recommend you watch that episode before going into The Expanse so you become extremely disappointed with it knowing how the protomolecule and the- the thing near Uranus concept originated (will leave that as a surprise). Good show none the less, next season is the last season but the books keep going.
