I frequently see players w level 70 pilots that seem to just accept the skill level they were given, e.g. T1 RH. It seems to me that most builds would benefit from a few T3-4 primary skills rather than a lot of mediocre ones.
What say you fellow forumites? For example, isn’t it better to invest the 5500 Au into skill upgrade instead of taking a pilot from 50 to 70?

I agree 100%. I have a handful of pilots at L60 (none at 70), but most are 40 or 50 because the bot won't benefit from a slew of extra skills. I tend to stay away from the "situational" skills such as Adamant Road Hog. I love Road Hog but I'll save my Au and skip Adamant or any skill tied to a beacon lead or deficit, or action (beacon capture or enemy kill).

I’m in the quality camp, mostly because I have to ration gold. But I’m much more willing to pick 3-4 skills I want and max em than to live with larger quantity of meh skills. Spose it helps big time to have most of my current skills grandfathered in as purples when they added tiers. My crew would look a lot different if I had to level up tiers for all those skills. Love me those skills that tier level makes no difference for like deft survivor on mender.

Agree generally.
Some pilot abilities really shine on particular bots. It makes sense to max those out when you have the right one for the right bot instead of just promoting (and invariably getting yourself screwed by the Pixo "lottery").
I imagine that the promote at all costs types are just conditioned by the game to max everything they can.

I totally agree and have all my pilots with skills that I want, not ones that are just given. Though I will say I am a sucker for road hog on every single bot. I like fast bots, can not stand moving slow. I run the free speed booster every single time I play too. Amazing what that 10% does.

when you have Scatters and the lottery gives you the skill that allows you to lock-on faster...god they are so expensive...1000 gold to change a skill from 1 bot to another? nah

Most my pilots max out at level 50 but I choose/pay gold for the skills I want.
Always self heal, speed boost and extra durability.
Ones like "kill an enemy and get 5 seconds damage boost" quickly get the boot.

I don't go past a certain point because the gold cost is obscene, so I just coast by, making sure i have what i want. More would be better but, screw that.

Besides the 2 my wife had (which became mine when we got married), I've had 4 cats in my life. They're great when you get some that are cool.

I go for quality. I don't go for the situational or Module related (because I'm still not fully on board with them) and if you cut them out, it's still difficult to choose the few best Skills. RH is definitely a favorite. I probably will never have the patience for 6-pack. Sometimes, if I'm grooming a Pilot for a bot which is yet to see service, I'll put a Pilot in a random bot which is currently in the hangar so he/she can get experience. So until I'm decided on weapons or if I'm kind of short on gold, I'll choose the random skill and just let the experience fill up. I'll keep promoting so I don't waste game time experience on Pilots who aren't in need. When the bot is ready to play, I'll try to change Skills, but I don't always have the Au so I'll just run it until I do. So in some cases, crappy skills are better than no skills, but quality skills are definitely better than the quantity of skills.

Generally speaking if you have 4 to 5 high level (T3 or T4) skills is all you need.
There are some bots in particular that benefit from a Legendary Pilot with a boatload of extra skillz though. Loki for example can gain benefits from skills that are pretty rubbish on many other bots (eg Raider Gunsmith). There are some builds that also benefit from stacking extra skills. Tanks like the t-Falc/Wolf Fenrir get benefits from stacking Dodger and Modules expert on top of their other skills.

Don`t like the conditional skills and change them as soon as I have enough gold to have healing, extra durability and increased damage (weapons and ability) on everything and then upgrade those as I go. Also have extra speed on the slow ones and some randomly appointed ones that seemed worth keeping like faster target lock and longer lasting/quicker recharging module ones.

Buy gold as cheap as humanly possibly. 11.99 for 5000 Au is a "deal." Ahem. Uhhhh... if you're into that sort of thing. *cough* *ownership is an illusion!* *cough*
Then, stay laser-focused on what pilots and skills to spend it on. OVER TIME if you really like the bot/pilot, A LOT, then you can throw more Au at the pilot. TBH I spent too much Ag/Au on a Scorpion. I'm just not in to it for some bizarre reason. I should have tried it out at lower bot/pilot levels before over-investing in it.

It's absolutely miserable when I'm on the beat down cycle as it is, imagine every game being like that! Edit: weird how they pushed everyone up into Champs and then sort of stopped, eh?

Oooh, pilot skills are my favorite thing! Literally the only thing I do with gold is skill up.
I always go for Armor Expert and Mechanic, Wonderworker (if it's available), and usually Road Hog, and then I start varying based on the bot. My Cerberus, for instance, has Crazy Electrician and Energy Shield Expert to go with the two maxed Fortifiers. Also has Destroyer for the built-in weapons. I've got Module Expert + Quartermaster on a couple of pilots. My Pursuer pairs Deft Survivor with Wonderworker to give me both extra stealth and health when I hit 50% health.
Both of my Raven pilots have Mechanic, Adamant Mechanic, Wonderworker, Armor Expert, and Road Hog. The one I drop first also has Master Gunsmith. Second drop has Adamant Road Hog - jogs along at a decent pace.
