So, the last specialization event featured the Juggernaut and had a bunch of Jugg specific tasks. TBH, I struggled to get the necessary 100 points and counted myself lucky to finish 6/7 of the tasks. Thank goodness they don't require you to do all 7 like the new daily task system (which BTW is actually easier to do than before). The prize was a measly 7 Loot Chest keys.
Today, my specialization event is Ares. I don't know if it's the same for everyone, but I think I might sit this one out. The 7 keys means nothing to me when I have 88 of them stocked up and I only use them when the Loot Chest progress bar is back so that I get some guaranteed resources (A-coins) for my carefully hoarded keys.
Don't get me wrong about the Ares. It's a great mech but I just don't like tank mechanics and I finally admitted to myself that I suck as a sniper. (side note, when I finally get the RG, my plan is to use Zephyr and fire it at PB range after I've disabled a target). I find the shield cool down to be too long and not nearly strong enough for tank purposes. In comparison, the Jugg's shield is weaker but it recharges faster, plus my Jugg has like 62k HP, so it's not that far from a base level Brickhouse.
I don't have Carbines and the only EN8 weapons I have are PC, MR and RM. My MR8is currently on my Zephyr and will stay there until I get the RG, my RM8 is getting rusty, and so my PC8 is my only weapon suited for the Ares.

Actually saw a player in my bracket last week that won and his favorite mech was the Ares with RG. Not a bad idea if it's R4. Gives you a bit of forgiveness when waiting for the perfect shot. Also, as I mentioned in another thread, avoid getting in range of a Guardian with your RG. It's completely demoralizing to have your entire clip wiped clean with that ability. Makes you want to just ditch the mech altogether if your in a tournament as you just lost 20-30 seconds.

I know this is off topic, but how do the mechanics of the rg work? I've seen video of it, but I still don't get it. Is it 3 shots, and 10 second reload per shot?

There's an ammo pool of 100 charges, each shot uses 33 (so it recharges 33 charges in 10s). You can only fire if there's >=33 charges. There's also 1s delay between each shot if you hold down the fire button. I don't advise you do this unless your target is frozen or zephyr EMP-ed.

Well, my specialization event today is the one where you get 625 A-coings at the end and about 300 and change halfway through. In total about 1k A-coins. Last time I did this, I just upgraded a bunch of AC2 and the Lancer. Dirt cheap and nice reward! This time though, I ended up blowing away my bank of over 300k credits to upgrade things I use regularly. Dang, things get expensive to upgrade fast, and it took me forever and a day to save those 300k credits! Oh well, not like I was doing anything with them, and I'm getting closer to the RG everyday!

I am using a life-hack to do these upgrade events, though it's not going to work forever. I have many items that I have never upgraded and haven't ever planned to upgrade sitting around. EN 2 stuff. I got my rank up task done (3 rank ups) by ranking my 3 basic EN 2 items up from R1. Each was only 15 a-coins, so I spent 45 a-coins to get 1000! The upgrades for these items work out perfectly too. I'll never be able to do this again, but who knows how many of these events they're going to do anyway. Better do it while I can. At least they don't make me do weapon-based tasks anymore! lol

Guess its a good thing I'm sitting on 66 gold chests and 254 silver ones... I'm actually holding off on a lot of upgrade until these events now.. Like deadeye I can sneak by with a couple of these events doing so.. but then that'll quickly end.

I did the same thing until I unlocked all available mechs and weapons. I wrote down my prototype blueprint drop rate. I'll have to write that down here somewhere...

keep in mind that 1000 acoins can be converted to 100,000 credits when you are deciding to spend on upgrades you wouldn't normally bother with.
I just spent about 28,000 credits and 45 acoins on low level junk upgrades to get 375 acoins (which would convert to 37,500 credits). that rate gets worse now that upgrade prices increase. Wondering if i should have bothered with that.
I guess if you are looking to convert credits to acoins this would make more sense

A-coins are far harder to come by since you can't convert in reverse. Trading credits for a-coins is always a good play because they can be easily converted back if you don't need them and credits naturally accrue as you play.

New event now, requires a crap-ton of tournament games. Ummm, I can’t even play enough games to place well in regular tournament brackets. I’m guessing this is another one I’ll be sitting out.

There’s no strategy any more - it’s all pretty much whoever has the most upgraded mech(s). For the past month matchmaker has made it so I can handle maybe 2 or 3 games before I have to shut it off for my own sanity.

When I squad up, my team usually wins the Tournament games, but I rarely score MVP status. On many maps, the best tactic is usually staying out of sight and lobbing Javs at reds. I've found the Shadow to be the best at this cause reds can't come after you if they can't see you - even AI.

Sheesh, the Battlethon event is just awful! The two hardest tasks: 50 gold medals for damage and 35 Collaborator tasks contradict each other.
Gold medals for damage can only be acquired in CPC. To get them, win or lose, you have to out-damage your team. Ok, not rocket science, but it's also not guaranteed that I can do that every game. I played a bunch of games this morning already, and only scored 1 gold medal for damage.
Then, there's the Collaborator award. To get that, you have to get at least 3 Assists with the same mech (I think). That gets you the lowest: Comrade. I forget the higher names right now, but think about it for a second. If you're trying to get the most damage, chances are, you're going to kill your target. Not only that, if you're in a heated firefight, you're not going to stop firing and hope a team mate takes out your target. No, you're gonna keep shooting til its dead!
The way these events are set up, you can skip one of the 20 point tasks cause the total number of points for getting all is 120, and you only need 100 to complete. So, I'm gonna skip the Collaborator one cause that's just too hard to do, even though it you can work on it in both TDM and CPC.
700 A-coins is substantial, but I don't know if it's worth driving myself crazy!

Stasis beam is an excellent weapon to get assists with. But yea, I do find it really annoying to try to get top damage as well as get multiple assists with a bot

I'm doing as you suggested and just planning to have the Damage gold medals tasks done, though 30 and 50 is a lot. Very doable though over 4-5 days. I seem to almost always get top damage, even if I don't get much else. I'm always trying to shoot at something. lol

My approach, FWIW, is to use support builds in CPC, for at least part of the match, for the assist tasks. I mean full-on-double TL 6 on the MD kind of support. Also Panther with SB, like y'all said, is great for this. On these matches I put my Shadow in, too... so that I can get beacons and cause damage but am less likely to kill. I also try to hit Reds that are in combat with teammates.
Damage task games I just go all out, like normal and aim for the Red mechout.
I have been cycling my solo games... one Tourney, one support CPC, and one damage CPC. It's fine as long as I don't come up against squads, but the only thing I lose in CPC if I lose the match from playing this way, is stats... and I couldn't give one 「dookie」 less than I already do about win percentage... so whatever. This keeps me from growing bored with grinding in Tourney, too... changing up not only the mode, but also the style of play, keeps me interested more... so it's a win-win.
Might be too much thought put into it, though, if you can just ignore the assist task altogether, like you said... but I've already had 9 and 8 assists games, out of the two that I played with that goal in mind.
You can still get damage gold medals while doing this if you just happen to set up kills for your teammates by draining the majority of the Red target... but I admit, it's prolly not likely in most games.... which is why I just treat that task as a completely different way of playing.
Just a thought... I know not everyone wants to even change out a bot/weapon, or bots/weapons, on their hangar every 2-3 games... so it may not be realistic... but it works for me, so far.

I don't know if I can make it to 50 gold medals. I think I barely managed it last time, but the competition seems fiercer today for some reason. The 700 A-coins would help. I want to start ranking up my MD, and if/when I ever get enough blueprints for the SB12, I need to rank it and my Panther up. SB12 is currently at R5 5/7, so still need a bunch more. Wish I could just buy the blueprints I need, but since I'm at R5, I don't think that Upgrade deal will come again. I'm pretty sure I bought it last time, but it didn't take me very far.

I'll just give myself the consolation prize of 500 A-coins for $7.

Anyone else not getting Collaborator Achievements? I thought it was weird last night, but just now, I paid attention to how many Assist icons I was getting, and I counted 4 in my Shadow (which is my best mech for damage and collaborator), but didn't get the Comrade or any other achievement announcements nor did I see any in the after battle results screen. I've sent in a question via the in-game support.

In theory, it would be easier to get the Collaborator achievement as a bot can reach several levels of them up to 10 assists. I think there are 7 levels of them Correction: There are 5 collaborator achievements at 3, 5, 7, 9, and 10 assists. With damage achievement, you can only get it once per battle. Thermal Lance and Shield Breaker are good for this but also Carbines. I often see podiums where carb builds get a lot of assists in tournament. Helps to be in a squad.

If in tournament and your assists are spread out over 2 or 3 games within a match, it won't count. That means you have 2 minutes to get 3+ assists. If it was in CPC, I don't know what went wrong. That's the only thing I can think of that might have caused your issue. 2 assists in one game, and 2 assists in another. 4 for the match, but no Comrade awards.

also depends if mm has it out for you, if you are on the ai 「dookie」 list you wont survive long enough to string assists. only way is to keep playing until ai cares more about someone else, as munki said, squading could help that
